Well... it could be worse?
If I didn't know it was a Power Rangers/Sentai mecha, I'd never have guessed. With that said, it's not as bad as I'd imagined from the early preview images. It does, however, make me very glad that I have no attachment to MMPR or Zyuranger (yet.) |
I saw this at Target. The pictures are great but in person it is enormous!
I will be picking this up looks awesome ,my kid will have lots of fun with it
I just now noticed this, but it has a rather mushy looking face. Just another addition to the garbageness.
I am really liking the movie stuff. It's odd they released the T-Rex so far ahead of the rest of the zords.
It can't even stand convincingly. Like, where's the digitigrade legs? It's like it's fallen down and can't stand properly, all because they were too cheap to throw in an extra joint in the wrist/ankle.
This whole "alien" aesthetic is about as creatively bankrupt as you can get. The detail is so directionless and gappy, it makes the Bay movie Transformers look sleek. As far as the toy goes, it just ends up looking like mush, and the lack of any sort of face whatsoever on the Megazord makes it looks so damn boring. It's weird how the Tf movies have been moving more an more to try and make distinct, readable character-based designs (that sacrifice alt mode kibble for aestehtics, though) and the Zords feel like the old pre-2007 concept art where everyone looked flat out weird and unappealing, with odd, vacant features and nondescript shapes and details. Le sigh. We really needed something new and innovative with these zords, because Sentai sure ain't givin' it to us. |
I'll admit I wasn't wowed by this initially, but the more I look at it, the more I'm warming up to it. Looking at this closely in the gallery might even have tipped me closer to buying it.
I imagine this might be a design that will work on screen but might be hard to translate to toy form. |
I really really want this, hopefully I get it for Christmas (crossing fingers)
One of the things I was expecting the most about this movie was the Megazord. I KNEW it was going to be different and I loved that idea, that's why I had a huge expectation. When I heard the Megazord was going to be big I didn't liked that idea and I still don't like it. I don't like big figures/megazords, I prefer standard sizes. I'm like that in every aspect of my life lmao.
The other thing I didn't liked is that we have to purchase each Zord separately and I hate that. This and the size thing were a big bummer for me. I really hope eventually we get a standard size version like the megazords we get with the tv show. If we get that I'm buying it for sure but if not then this Megazord is a total pass for me. Right now I have more important things to focus my money like rent for example. But yeah, I like the design tbh, I don't hate it like most ppl do because they don't have a better thing to do lol |
$40 for this? Yeah fuck that, by fall I see this going on clearance. I tried to think of what could help make these designs better and all I can think of is make them even more alien. I really want to give the toy a chance but that price is making me not want to.
Good Lord they're charging $40 for that fugly thing? I mean- I usually try to be understanding when it comes to prices, but that's just so not worth that. $20 tops, maybe. There are just so many (and much better) toys out there in the same price rage, including other (complete) megazords. Movie aesthetic be damned, it certainly doesn't help. But even if that's ignored this thing looks so cheap. It looks like hot garbage slapped together so they could make a holiday deadline.
I have my problems with BOA, such as their general aesthetic and budget crunching choices with toys, but this crosses a threshold. Kids especially deserve so much better than this cynical trash. |
I just can't get into the designs for this "mmpr" movie.

I know it's supposed to be alien and obviously different then the original so looking at it from a new unbiased perspective. It's not bad. The toy itself seems like it could be a lot of fun on its own and in sure it will have way more functionality once the others come out. It's just so hard to judge when you have nothing to compare it too like the movie itself. I'm trying to hold off on pulling the trigger on this one until I atleast see it in a trailer in motion.

Man i want the other 4 Zords to come out so that i can make the Megazord.
Still not sold on this, going by the CGI promo poster they look much better of course being CGI and all that. This I dunno, I honestly don't think I would put this next to the Legacy MMPR megazord.
I actually kind of like how this thing looks.
I know I'm a minority, but I've said it in other threads, I like this design and I really do look forward to picking up the full set of combining zords. It's a really interesting, and alien, direction to take the concept. I don't care that it doesn't look like what we've seen before, I like that it is different, and most importantly to me, it looks COOL.
I've seen this guy both at ToysRUs and Wal-Mart (Wal-Mart was surprisingly more expensive), but I just can't bring myself to pick him up. I think its mainly the (apparent) lack of paint and the price (being $5 more than a standard megazord yet offering no real transformation on its own). For right now I think I'll wait on a decent discount or the $100 gift set with all 5 zords.
I'm glad you compare it with the Bayformers Grimlock toy. The similarity is there.
Lets be completely honest, this movie will fail. Maybe not in the eyes of the general public, but for the hardcore fanbase. But excluding that fact, the zord design isn't completely terrible, their alright. The change to make the zords look more like something out of a super mecha anime is alright.
I really like the look of this. My only issue is what the final cost will be and how long will these take to all be released? I don't want to take 6 months to build one damn megazord.
It looks.... interesting. I'm not sure if I would pick it up, though.
It still just looks so, so bad... And should've figured it out by now that it part forms. Which is in its own way just kinda sucks.
But maybe it'll still be popular with the kids somehow. *shrug* |
Judging by just how big the T-Rex is by itself, the full Megazord is going to be absolutely MASSIVE. I don't think I'll jump down that rabbit hole.
It looks like it'll be a fun toy for young kids to play with, that seems like the only plus. It's be cool if we eventually recieved much more detailed figures of these Zords. Something with like NECA style detailing.

Can't wait to see it in action once the movie is out!
I am not a fan at all, especially at that price. It feels like you get so little. I mean, this is the same price of a full megazord. Sure, its probably as big, but it lacks the solo playability. I mean between this and the Ptera Charge Megazord, one clearly has much more play value on their own.
I also dont like the look of the toy. That eye-less t-rex without arms looks like a giant alien dong. |
Needs more paint apps
I get the need to modernize designs but the lack of a face bothers me personally and I wish the line had better paint apps. It looks to have a lot of molded detail but its all lost due to the lack of paint.
It's an interesting design, to be sure. I won't get the toy if only because I am hoping for one with better paint apps... this clearly lacking the paint that it deserves and I hope we get a premium gift set at some point.
Wow, that is horrible. I honestly didn't notice until Den pointed it out but this thing totally is just an MMPR version of Grimlock. In fact looking at it now they're all just MMPR versions of the Bayverse Dinobots. Except atleast those toys had more paint, this is just a giant featureless lump of red plastic. Dear Gosei I hope they looked good on screen because this.. this just sucks.
What, you're surprised that they've been ripping off Bayformers NOW?
Sheesh, I thought it was blatantly obvious to anyone who had seen both. |
It doesn't look too horrible. I suppose it's all right. I like.
Design wise it doesn't look that bad, but it's still basically a rehash of past designs from different places.
Like that comparison image that was shown, it's like, scrolling down super fast I already thought that there were already repaints. |
The comparison with the other T-rex toys was spot on lol
The zord looks so uninspired |
I sort of dig the torso mode, though from the looks of things the megazord may have very short arms
I am fine with change, as long as its a good looking design. But I look at this and I wonder "why bother". Why bother going with the T-Rex is it looks so different anyway. Just make new zords or a new design. Since Dinos are earth beings, then why is there an alien interpretation? Just make an alien zord and call is a day.
