So to a certain degree Goldar is Bio-Broly only gold.
|
How do you mess up Goldar?
Lionsgate: Watch this... |
No sir, I don't like it.
|
That's... interesting... I'll wait to see the movie before making any kind of real judgement, but as of now I'm not exactly a fan. I mean... I actually kinda like the idea of taking his name literally, but the execution... could use some work.
I've never really considered myself a big fan of, or at all attached to Goldar, but I find myself kinda hoping that this is just how he looks when fighting the Megazord, and that he has a more human-sized form that looks (and hopefully sounds) more like oldschool Goldar... |
Well the theory that Rita is a ranger gone rogue I think is plausible cause in the trailer she does say "I've killed rangers before" and her costume makes me think of a female green ranger vibe so her having Goldar as her "zord" is a interesting theory. I was thinking that she'd have a weird verison of dragon zord.

I can't help but think of this whenever I look at this thing. |
I'll reserve full judgement until I see how it's used in the story of the movie. But from first impressions though I don't like it at all...no iconic look like the original. I understand they want to re-imagine Power Rangers, but to veer so much from the elements and allure of the original MMPR is a bit disheartening for us that grew up with it. I don't understand with nostalgia being such a potent part of pop culture today that they would choose not to go along with it, very perplexing...

So even Andre, the Black Nerd, who has basically defended every other aspect of this movie, has found his breaking point. |
To be honest if this wasn't supposed to be Goldar but a Bizzaro super putty Megazord and the movie wasn't taking itself too seriously I could see this and the Iron Man Rangers working.
Have the Rangers make some quacks about Rita using a bootleg Megazord and have Alpha or Zordon mention the Rangers' looks being to match the public's perception of a hero*a subtle jab at the Marvel movies* and I could dig it. |
Oy... Lionsgate...Saban...Bandai...just stop showing things. You're only hurting yourselves further.
I mean...wow. It's like how many have already pointed out, they basically took peanut butter or cheese, sculpted a figure and then set it out on a hot day and said "Perfect." Makes me think of the 1970s, movie "The Incredible Melting Man"...with less gore. |
Ah HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!! I can't even!
I'm dead! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! ....was my reaction yesterday when I saw this news. I'm sure in CG it'll look balls. But as an action figure? Yeah that's not cool. Effie Trinket's gonna really have to play that one up to make it something impressive other than Pizza the Hut's older brother. |
I'm assuming in CG it'll have a constant melting effect, with the gold flowing from head to toe.
|
While the design might make sense with what they are planning for the movie, can't say that I'm crazy about the figure, which, having only one single colour, comes across as cheap.

Will reserve judgment until we see the CGI renders, toys like these are an awful way to judge the design fully either way beyond the general look (like using those giant non-transforming Transformers to judge the designs). I kinda like it conceptually, but just gotta see where they are going with it. Would rather have Goldar have been his own character rather than a corrupted Megazord, if that is the route they are going with. That said, I do like the idea of a fallen ranger (Rita) having her own Megazord. But I worry that will make whatever they do with Tommy in the sequel feel..rehashy.

"WATCH MY MONSTER GROW-LY SHIT, 'dibreakit?"
|
ok, here is my take...
I was going into this with an open mind...if I wanted the old stuff, I could always watch the old stuff. I DID want something new. First trailer, I was good. Rita, Very good (for some of the wrong reasons, not going to lie). Some of the plot ideas made me happy. The posters made me smile. Then I saw the Zords...the doubt started (Still say if they just switched the "Mastadon/Spider and Tiger it would be good")...Then I saw Alpha, and it got bad...now I see this. Revamping a show concept ISN'T bad...but just bad design, that's well...bad design. |
Just saw the trailer for the toys today, is it me or goldar's body kinda resembles the megazord abit? Maybe he made himself look like the megazord?
|
What is up with the no face aesthstic??
|
i call it is zomibe golatr
|
I thought it looked kind of neat. It looks surprisingly similar to the Megazord design-wise (like if the Megazord melted into gold). I feel like that figure is way too big though, I saw this elsewhere the other day and I was hoping it was standard action figure size.

https://pbs.twimg.com/media/C0QJZtlUoAE1lxM.jpg Looks like this is going to be his form both small and large. |

It's also worth noting that the small version looks decidedly less melt-y |
His helmet looks more defined.
