Utterly fantastic. I had my doubts but I'm SO pumped for this now.

I really liked the trailer.
I saw on You Tube comments, quite a lot of people bashed the creative team for using Kanye's Power as the trailer song, but actually it really worked; the lyrics, the beat and everything. Loved the action scenes. CGI could refine a little bit. Especially the lighting on the Zords. Some dialogues, I have to admit, are cringe-worthy. But some jokes really worked. "The Black Joke" worked well without it being offensive and I hope they keep it in the final cut. Goldar... it's a mixed opinion from me. While I like the menacing nature, I couldn't help but notice how much he is similar to early concept arts of Cronos from Percy Jackson. Overall, looks cool. Will definitely be there at the theater on the first day. |

And it's even worse, because you couldn't ever say "I saved your ass, so lay off me!" in future encounters. |

Am I the only one here who does not like the suits but hopes the movie does well that we get part 2. Where in part 2 the green ranger and white ranger will have his story in the movie. And maybe the thunder zords as well hmmm.

But, I know what the problem is. People aren't getting that this is a completely new universe, separate from all that came before it. It merely uses the names and locations, nothing else. That's one of the reasons why it's so drastically different from the other stuff that came before. There is room at the table for BOTH universes to exist side by side without affecting each other, going in different directions and doing different things. Part of it is they can't let go and want everything catered to them and so they're throwing an entitlement hissy fit. I'm so sick of the negativity. I don't want to see 90 minutes of badly dressed foreign actors throwing themselves around on wires while an oddly placed explosion goes off behind them because they "defeated" the badly suited villain in front of them. Some enjoy that camp, I don't. I think it's utterly ridiculous and usually badly acted to make even Tommy Wiseau say "Wow. They SUCK." *points to his username* See that? I'm a Transformers fan, first and foremost, and Power Rangers is the movie I want to see first before all others including The Last Knight. And TLK looks badass. Yeah, I want to see PR more. Now that's something. |

This film gives every appearance of being just another CG-laden mess utilizing an existing property to put butts in the seats. The action appears unremarkable and derivative, the acting seems mediocre, and the writing awkward. Market this film as another nostalgia-laden property or even it's own thing and my opinion isn't going to magically change. Strictly on its own, this does not look like a good movie. (Again, to me. Enjoy it all you want. I hope it makes a billion bucks at the box office and spawns sixty-seven sequels. I'm just not interested in seeing it.) |
Great new trailer. The Zords look good, the Megazord looks great, Alpha doesn't look neatly as bad in-motion, the Ranger suits also look awesome in-motion, the Putties look like legitimate forces to be dealt with, Goldar looks pretty cool, and Zordon doesn't look bad.
That said, my favorite bits are those pertaining to the personalities of the Rangers. I'm really liking how both Zack and Billy seem like their going to turn out. I really hope this does well enough to get a sequel made. Ideally two, so we can get Tommy as the evil Green Ranger in one and then his redemption as the White Ranger in another, but I'll take what I can get. |

I'm sick of negativity. If you don't like the film, don't go see it, but please don't tell us what you think of it, either. So sick of depressing people. Sick. |
You know what, forget it. It's just not worth arguing with some people.
Sorry for causing any extra work today, Mods. |

Not even bothering to read half the comments, I know to expect the same "nothing this movie could do would please us" hate that any franchise adaptation receives. Some of these people would probably complain about a blowjob from a porn star.
Anyways, I really enjoyed the trailer. The zords and megazord look great in their cg models, the humor is mostly on point, action looks fantastic. Absolutely love how Zordon was done as well, and Alpha looks really good too (headlights are still taking some getting used to, but I still dig the design). |

That's not inherently a negative and people need to stop pushing it as if it is. |

Or, like, interact with people period. I mean, if negative reactions to a shitey movie trailer sets you off, I honestly wonder how normal human interactions work when this, of all thing, illicits such a response. You're sick of negativity, I'm sick of shitty movies, yet we know both have been around forever, will never go away, and we can't do anything about them but try our best to ignore them. Quote:
Ah, the "you don't like this because of reason X? Well here's a favourite pulp culture phenomenon that has that same exact flaw, so you can't dislike it without also denouncing this other thing!" arguement. |
All of you lashing out at each other whether you like it or not need to drop it.
If you like it, hooray you have a Power Rangers movie to be excited about. If you don't, fair enough. Either way you're entitled to give your opinion just as much as anyone else if you're doing it constructively and without lashing out at people. A lot of you "might be sick of the negativity" or whatever, but both camps are equally ridiculous and don't make these threads particularly fun to read or moderate. No one is trying curtail discussion, but it's perfectly possible to do it without labelling each other haters or apologists or whatever. Anyway, back to the thread. |
I will say, this trailer makes me not want to not see the movie, if that makes any sense. The first trailer repelled me, this just makes me laugh. Maybe when it hits Netflix, or my small local theatre gets it.
But wheras the first trailer looked too dour and stone-faced, this looks like it's trying too hard to be quipy and hip wit da youts. Where's the happy middle ground? |

I'm reminded of the Suicide Squad trailers in that regard.

The more I'm watching the trailer the more I'm warming up to it. Not saying I'm suddenly in love with it or think that the movie will be great but it actually looks like they got the Toku elements really down. Even if the rest could be really wonky. The Zord scenes especially feel pretty fun and over the top to me in the way tokusatsu should feel fun and over the top.
Now just give me a really cool morphing sequence outside of the command center and a imaginative combination sequence for the Megazord that is more than just a bunch of metal clashing into each other until you get a humanoid robot. Still scared though that the movie will focus too much of it's run time on the Ranger origin and just shove all the cool things you would wanna see from a movie like this into the last half hour. But if there's one thing the movie has going for it is that the cast really looks like they're super into it. |

Watching the trailer for the nth time its growing on me however. It may not be Civil War but could turn out to be a decent matinee from the looks of it. Something to watch during the weekend mornings. |
I'm still bummed that the megazord barely looks like it's comprised of 5 different zords. I'd definitely be more forgiving if the visuals had a more semblance of their classic iterations.
I don't want a guy wearing a big blocky suit.. but I also don't want a big humanoid that looks like it's made out of scrap metal with screens showing outer space. I would've preferred a compromise. Oh well, I'll still see it. |
After watching it again, I noticed that Zordon says that the Power Rangers were a legion of warriors. I wonder what that means? Will we learn about the history of past Rangers or something? Or is that just a way for them to keep it open to new teams in the future?
|
I liked it. The Zords do look better in the movie than the toys. If BoA is smart, they would make a premium colored version as a con exclusive of something.

Yeah....yeah that sure sounds like Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers to me >_> (I'm not saying this to argue, just for jokes) |
I was actually pretty scared going into this trailer it seems as though that trailer could make or break everything and aside from the reveals we got it seems like a pretty iffy one. Also please tell me that the morpher toys warming the shelves at my wal-mart are a thing I'd rather see a morpher used than them stepping onto a pad

Seems like they'll only morph during the third act. I don't expect this movie to be great, but if it's better received than BvS, then it's a success on my book. Gotta say I'm slowly growing on the suits.
|
This trailer makes me appreciate some things that I didn't before. The suits look pretty good moving in a real space. Goldar too. Seeing the gold ooze and move along his body prove that the only reason the toy looks like a melted Gi-Joe is because BoA failed us again. Which brings us to the Megazord. The on-screen version puts the pathetically under-painted toys to absolute shame. Alpha I'm still not completely sold on but I believe in Hader. Zordon though. I used to like those needle toys in the 90's, where you'd put your hand in and see it on the other side? Just wondering why they went there and not time-tube. But overall this trailer did what trailers are meant to do. Made me extremely psyched to see this movie.

Even though it actually looks like the most visually horrible part of the movie, I really am looking forward to the fight scene there. At the very least it will have some just straight up fighting, and it looks like real, non-blurry fighting.
I think more than anything, though, the civilian powers are my number one issue. Just... What's the point? The MMPR team didn't have civilian powers, and these ones are so generic. It's just trying to be like Chronicle. Quote:

I'm honestly surprised and a little confused by the mostly negative reactions this is getting.
It looks formulaic as hell and doesn't look like it particularly breaks any new ground or do anything particularly different from what is expected, but that's exactly it! What were people expecting? Its a Power Rangers movie, we're getting exactly the plot that we were always going to get; Rita awakens, tries to rule the world, five teens get together, get recruited by Zordon, save the world. There isn't anything here that is worth getting upset about here. Does it look like an awesome addition to cinema? God no- but it was never going to be. It looks like a fun, inoffensive movie with lots of action and comedy. At the very least it looks better and truer to its roots then the Transformers films! It reminds me a lot of the recent Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movies, they're not great, they're not terrible, they're formulaic action movies for kids based on making toys with a few awkwardly placed adult jokes and nostalgic nods to get adults to buy the tickets too. I doubt it'll run very long either, I'm guessing not much over 90 minutes if over that at all, but I think that's OK. Plus it has Elizabeth Banks as the main villain, that's really better then what I could imagine them doing from the get go right there. |

EDIT: Oh yeah, new Alien that month too |
