https://abload.de/img/img_5229u7u0n.jpg Could I get a quick run down? The staff of the movie are interested in making Tommy Oliver female. I don't have nostalgia for the series but this WILL cause a shitstorm regardless. Though it'd be a neat way for Trini to get more screen time tbh |

I would honestly be down for a female Tommy. It would make for a nice twist and (like the cast have said) provide a gender balance you never see in Power Rangers.
|
Would be interesting. Power rangers Twitter posted Rita's helmet which is cool. Although some sites are taking it as a tease for the sequel which it kind of is but the helmet is damaged and clearly female. It's nice as we didn't get the best look at her in ranger form before boom! mooo.....

Not every PR series has talked down to it's audience, and I feel like that's what really makes me adverse to seeing this movie, the idea that fans and the creators thought there was something wrong with Power Rangers and it needed to be fixed. It's not enough that people simply like the new movie, it's that the previous iterations were bad and needed to be replaced. They need to feel legitimized as adults who watch a children's program by supplanting the old versions with a new "adult" take. Quote:

Also, just to add a couple more examples, the original Magna Defender's revenge plot. Seriously, it's the kind of storyline you'd expect in some uber-violent 80's movie, not a freaking kid's show, but nobody ever talks about it. Man loses everything, his home, his race, even watches his own son get slaughtered in front of him, and the best part? It's his failure, he was their protector and they're all dead because he made a wrong decision. Then he proceeds on a homicidal rampage with no damns given for who gets hurt in the process. You know, for kids!? |

saw the film yesterday i really enjoyed it. also i might be one of the few people that liked ranger action at the end. i did like how jason wanted zordon to deal with rita he make the final choice. at the same time i loved the nod i noticed. even that zyuranger one. i taking as nod to zyuranger with trini brouthers wanting to play as one of the ranger. seeing JDF and Amy Jo in as civillins with there old ranger colour on them amy wearing a pink jacket and JDF wearing a green tank vest top. were nice touch. for me i would not mind if they become the parents of the new tommy character. also did love the begining with zordon being the former red and seeing green ranger suit. the thing i did like was selfish ness of zordon in this film. where all he really caraed about was getting out of the morphin grid to then lead the new team of ranger but then decided to stay save billy life.
the character i link to myself most was billy mainly due to the fact im also on the autism specturm with aserges and i related to him alot. through the film. |
The fact that Zordon has an actual arc is the most compelling reason for me to see this.
|
I liked the film, but one thing I didn't like was how both Zordon and the team acted so selfish and stubborn throughout most of the movie.
You had this pushy, prick of a face on the wall, barking orders- then you had 5 punk-ass kids reacting like, "Who the Hell are you to order us around? This is BS dude- you're just a wall."- and that ate up most of the movie- it was kind of ridiculous how long it lasted. It took a dead, autistic, African American kid to bring the team around. I hate to put it that way, but that's literally what happened. That's what it took. I watched Billy come back to life, and moments later, when they walked out in their suits for the first time, I honestly thought: So that's what it took eh....a dead, autistic, African American kid...that's what it took to make this happen( points to them walking out).....I hate to say it, but if that's what it takes to make these rangers unite: They're serious a-holes man. Stubborn, selfish, immature, a-holes. LOL Now I'm looking at it like: What's it going to take to make a green or white ranger work with the other 5? A dead d-syndrome child? A bag full of dead puppies? The rest of the film was great, but what broke the camel's back and finally brought them together: That was a bit much imo. It shouldn't have taken that much. lol |

And I agree, I loved the 30 seconds where they fought the putties, but honestly, I could have used 20 times more non-zord-based combat. (Also, using Zords to fight putties breaks Zordon's second rule of not escalating the fight, IMO.) |

Perhaps you possibly missed my point. They could've killed pink, red, or black- but yellow and blue: They shouldn't have touched. Primarily because of their mentally challenged and LGBT characteristics. But of all the members to kill: They chose blue. Autistic, African American Blue. Now, keep in mind: I'm not mentioning those things to be rude or remotely offensive- I'm mentioning them because that's literally what he was and that's literally what happened- just being clear on that. Don't you think it's pretty bad that it took the death of an autistic, African American kid to bring the rest of them together? Doesn't that strike you as bothersome- at all? Those factors being there? They could've listened from the beginning and cooperated, but they refused, complained, made a giant fuss- and the thing that finally broke the camel's back and brought them together: A dead, autistic, African American kid. Come on...if that's what it takes for them to morph: I don't know about you, but to me, that's pretty bad. LOL It shouldn't have taken that for it to finally click and work- and It doesn't just make their characters look bad, but look at me! I'm an audience member and I'm acknowledging it. I can't be the only one who feels this way- surely there have to be more fans with similar reactions to mine. It was a bit much imo, and it does make them look pretty bad. |

Though you reminded me that Billy died, meaning the black guy died first. FUCK |

Also yeah this movie was fucking awesome and I loved the majority of it. There were a few things I'd have changed, but over all it was great. Also, as a person on the spectrum, it was really awesome to see an autistic super hero done well and not be treated as a joke. Same with Trini's coming out speech. |
I still think it would've been better if they got their powers right away, but after one or more of them abuses it, like morphing to scare off a bully or something, Zordon takes them away and forces them to train to be better people if they want them back. It's a little too mushy mystical for me.

Hmmm...You might be right about that, but I would think, the more they hung out, they would've noticed something about him- ya know? I mean, even from the writer's choice, I wouldn't have done that. Now I'm not sure if they deliberately did it- like, "Okay, so we're going to kill the autistic, African American kid- they won't see that coming."- or they thought, "We'll kill Blue off, and that'll bring the rest together." It's tough to decipher what they were thinking when they decided to specifically kill him. One thing I can say about Billy: He was the most positive, the most productive, the most friendly, and the most cooperative out of them all- and maybe they killed him because they wanted them to feel bad for losing the 1 member that actually managed to morph- ya know? Kind of like, "We weren't as good or deserving of the power as he was, and now he's gone.."- that kind of thing. Maybe that's why they did it. |

I personally won't be surprised if somebody points out what I have at some point in the future. I'm not saying it'll definitely end up on one of those lists, but I won't be surprised if somebody brings it up. Just saying. lol |

Mecha fights are, universally, my least favorite part of Sentai/Power Rangers. I think the climax would have felt simultaneously more badass and intimate if the filmmakers hadn't rushed to stuff them into their zords ASAP. Quote:
The reason they killed Blue is because he was the character everyone cared about the most. He was the most interesting character, the sweetest character, the character who both the characters in the movie and we as the audience loved the most. And this is by a long shot -- no one else even comes close. He is literally the most important character in the movie, both from an emotional and narrative perspective. I think we should be celebrating the fact that the black, autistic kid was the most important character in the movie. Ultimately, it's a good thing that the character that everyone cared about the most was the black, autistic kid. Now, if Billy had stayed dead, I'd be rioting in the streets. As it stand, his death flirts with the "kill your minorities first" trope, but his resurrection ultimately subverts that trope in a cool, progressive way. So yeah, maybe it's a problem that Billy was the character who died. But it's also really cool that the reason he had to die is because he was the best, most important, and most endearing character in the movie. |

As someone who doesn't know MMPR, I loved it.
Though I feel that in a way, Jason and Kimberly aren't as interesting as the others. Zack in particular feels like a better flawed 'Red' than Jason does; having to be the leader, the hero, even as he knows his only remaining family lives on borrowed time. That's harrowing. Also, anyone got an idea on how the hell they'll use the Dragonzord? Because with how the Zords combined... That was awesome and so much better than any TV show's take on it |

So it truly came off as an eleventh-hour thing because no one knew it would happen |

'Cuz I was about to say, actual transformations that are engineered and visible beat ass-pulled off-screen CGI bullshit anyday. But it is cool whenever things like that are a surprise, even if it wasn't really a surprise because everyone in the world who knows Power Rangers knows there's a Megazord. |
Just got back from seeing the movie. Loved it. I knew about everything going in and it still amazed me to see it. Seeing Rita as Green was very satisfying. Seeing AJJ and JDF at the end was nice too. To me, the most emotional part of this movie was the zord fight when they thought they were going to die. Saying their goodbyes and heart-felts was touching. Billy thanking them for being his friends, Jason saying "no one dies alone", that hit me hardest. Mainly because I know that I've never had that kind of bond/friendship, and probably never will.

I loved it. :lol

So I didn't have time to mention this last week, and I haven't been here to ask, but am I the only one that was bothered that we still have no idea how this Megazord actually combines? I saw the movie and I swear that they just switched mechs while they were covered in smoke in the pit.

Wait, there's legitimately a picture of Time Force's Silver Guardians?

Enjoyed the movie.
Something I particularly enjoyed was Kimberly's contribution during the Zord fight. Because, wow, she was basically running the show then. They really upped the Pteradactyl's worth since the original series :lol |
