I hope they give us a little taste of Faiz combined with Agito this time. With Ex-Aid giving us dead after dead after dead (and ressurrections, but eh), I think KR audience are ready for a little more darkness and myths. Build art designs are good, hopefully it won't suffer good designs bad stories like Wizard and Ghost.

Guys... I broke the code. Night Rogue (the bat man) was the one who drew all over Sento's face.
You think it was the girl, Misora, right? Because of the cute drawing on the mirror and Sento drawing on her face in return as she sleeps? Ha! No. In the flashback, she locks herself in the chamber as Sento places the Fullbottle with the hedgehog essence in the machine. It is suggested that Misora needs to stay in there until the procedure is finished, as we see her totally exhausted after. And we can see Sento as he places the Fullbottle and the chamber with Misora inside closing at the same time - but there are no drawings on his face! The only logical explanation is that Night Rouge closely follows Sento (like we see at the end of the episode) and messes with him just because he hates him. Absolutely 100% the truth right here, Night Rouge may look like a badass but he's a prankster who frequently visits Sento's workshop to mess with him, confirmed. I'm really sorry that you had to read this garbage by the way. |
Solid first episode. I know we don't know much about the story but I honestly feel it has the potential to be on par with Ex-Aid. Sento is an interesting character. I think the amnesia thing is kinda cliche but it does allow for some interesting story arcs. The Build suit looks so cool on film. I love the metallic look of it. This show definitely has great potential so let's hope it'll be successful.

I really should have looked up the cast for this series. |

Sento: Hey Ryuga, cover me while I transform! Ryuga: Wait, what?! *gets punched in the face* |
Also, question. Anyone else notice how this was more... Sexual than the past few years of main series Rider combined? The journalist being asked if she's interested in what's essentially a fuck date and a close up of a guy's crotch with YEAHHHHHHHHH. I don't mind, it's just... Odd

^That scene surprised me, too! Though I have to admit I already like Himuro. Not only is he an obvious villain, but when he's not going after our heroes, he's making women uncomfortable just to be an ass.

As a fan of early Heisei shows, I'm cautiously optimistic. I only know the writer from the Crows Zero movies, which I remember enjoying, but I don't really need to let myself get too hyped here. (Wizard traumatized me, too.) Quote:

Anyone think Jack Moon + Kiva + Batman when Night Rogue popped up on the screen? Lol.

Yeah, I think I'm going to be on board for this show. There's quite a lot of interesting stuff that have been set up, from the whole 3 split nations, the mystery of Pandora's Box, to what exactly happened to Sento and Ryuga. Sento and Ryuga interactions already seems fun to watch, I'm going to expect a lot of heated drama between the two. The first action scene was fine enough, it showcases Build's abilities and it's cool that they play with Build's asymmetrical design with how his right and left legs can do different things. The switching gimmick probably could've been saved for next episode though, it shows a little bit too much of what Build can do. In fact that's honestly my biggest problem with this episode. While it's paced well, they introduced a bit too many things especially in the first 10 minutes. I mean lets just count them down.

That was a solid start for Build. I found a strong "Kabuto" vibe in there: the soldiers in black, the "organization", the alien factor, the "more than human" tragic people... But I doubt Sento will quote his grandma every episode.

Was a fun first episode. I found myself enjoying it.
...Yup. |
So with Banjo's background in MMA/Boxing, I feel like it's safe to assume his rider name will be Kamen Rider Claws in reference to his more brawler style of fighting compared to Sento.
NightRouge is rather obviously the Minister's Assistant with all the evil dialogue he's saying. Also, I wonder if the Sky Wall has some other effects that make it special. I know it caused Japan to split into three separate sections. But the wall seems to have points where it ends over the ocean. So what's stopping a boat or plane from just floating or flying around those parts to get to another section? ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- On a less serious note; Does anyone else find it funny that NightRogue apparently has this bright red sofa chair right in front of the experimentation tanks. I don't know why, but I love the idea of him taking the time out his schedule have his minions move it into his secret evil lab. Scientist: Sir why are the Guardians installing a La-Z-Boy in the lab? NightRouge: What? You don't expect me stand for the entire Smashification process do you? Scientist: Can't you just use a folding chair or something? NightRouge: No. |

I liked it but I dislike the story-telling method of "WE WILL GIVE YOU 23434543 PLOT POINTS THAT WE WILL FOLLOW UP THROUGHOUT THE SHOW".
Now that the first 40 episodes have been plotted out for us in the intro, I can't wait for the near-end-series twist. |
Just watched the first episode and I highly enjoyed it. I felt like it should have been a 2 parter though as way too much happened, especially towards the end.
Also, was it just me or did the show have two commercial breaks during it? One at the halfway point like normal and then one like 4 minutes later? |
When I heard this was gonna be the most intelligent Kamen Rider to date, I was hoping this would mean we could break the mold in character stereotypes with Rider protagonists, and we could get one more unique like Tsukasa or Shotaro....but oh well. He's at least not an idiot, so there's that going for him.
What I'm most intrigued about for the possibilities of the future of this show will be the possible POLITICAL ISSUES this show has the potential to have in its story. We already knew Japan was gonna be split into 3 parts cuz of the Skywall, but I was surprised that this actually affected each part's political stances as well. I hope this show isn't afraid to tackle these issues. |

Onto Buildowa. I thought it was a good opener. I think the Build Driver is both ridiculous and has probably the longest, goofiest henshin sequence in Rider history - so, obviously, I LOVEET. Build, despite having a nominally more traditional design than Ex-Aid, feels even MORE plastic-y than that which, of course, makes sense with the toy motif. So, being that Sento created Build and neither of the villainous Riders have comparable drivers, this appears to be a "one Rider, one secondary Rider" show with the other guys not strictly being Riders. Maybe? The plot seems like it's seeded a lot of fertile ground, making me a bit less worried, so that's good. The fact that all attendees at the disaster were "changed" is big. I love that the Smash monsters are transformed humans. I have a feeling that it was Sento who slapped the box. The Walls are gonna get a lot of use, I'm thinking. Glad to see my theory of Toei taking elements of popular culture was borne out (the walls are remenicent of Attack on Titan). The "science friction" of the henshin and Rider kick with the physical equations floating through the air is freaking bizarre and will take some extra disbelief suspension, though this is a part of most neo-Heisei era shows for me. I typically roll with it after a few episodes (see: LVL1 mode Ex-Aid). The CGI - if they're going to get that goofy on the CGI, I say take it to the extreme with the bike fight nonsense! It just dawned on me - Sento is a neo-Heisei Rider in a Heisei Rider plot. This should get interesting! |

Im kind of confused on how I feel about it. I feel like they spent too much time with shots of people looking at pandoras box, build shaking bottles, talking about his amnesia, and talking about the wall. That and I feel the name of the episode to feel odd as there is almost no real chemistry between any characters so far. I can tell you nothing about any of them that I didn't know before I watched it. So far the cast in my mind is Build, escaped prisoner guy, a reporter, a government worker who might be the bad guy, a guy who likes to use french and runs a cafe where build sleeps in the fridge, evil unicorn batman, and some sleepy girl who powers a microwave that lets build use smash juice.
It has a lot of good bits and seems promising but so far my opinion of Kamen Rider Build is some assembly required. |

Build has serious story since beginning. I think Build first episode is more serious than Ex-Aid first episode.
I really curious about origin of Rabbit and Tank Full Bottles. Before first episode, I think Sento already has Rabbit, Tank, Lion, Cleaner, and Gorilla Full Bottles. I love Build and his science finisher :D Hmm...I has feeling Ryuga will be become Smash. What if Ryuga unconsciously turned into Smash in future episodes? |
I was impressed with this first episode in a way I haven't been since Wizard. That Sento is a little arrogant delights me and partially makes up for his cartoon hair. This episode felt to me like it gave him more of a discernible personality than the last couple of Riders did when they debuted.
I'm also very excited by the relationship between Sento and... um... Claws. (I'm behind on learning names.) A lot of the secondary Rider relationships I've seen have felt samey to me, and I like that Claws is inherently tied to the larger plot and he's around in the first episode. I'm a little puzzled; do we have an official Romanization for KnightRogue/NightRogue/Night Rogue/NitRogue? I thought it was the latter, which seemed bizarre to me until I realize it might not be "night" and "rogue" but rather wordplay of "nitro" + "rogue." The setup of a range of mysteries really worked for me. Like many others, I suspected Sento opened the Box, but it sure didn't look like Sento under that cap. Also, I realized that the show did a blink-and-you'll-miss-it on what's certain to be a major plot point, which is that people immediately present when the Pandora Box opened underwent severe personality changes. Now, let's see, Goatee-Administrator and Underling were both there, right? I'm having trouble imagining a scenario in which Goatee-Administrator isn't Nitrogue. His final scene of the episode definitely screamed "villain." What kind of personality alteration did *he* undergo? (Of course, if Sento was the box-opener, maybe he's also experienced a dramatic personality change.) The only thing that didn't totally thrill me was the fight sequences. The Drill Crusher may have replaced the SunglassSlasher and the Gashacon Breaker as my least favorite modern Rider weapons. |

Looks to be Night Rogue. |

But yeah, Build's sword is crap. It looks bad and doesn't fit the main form. Which shouldn't have access to it anyways, it should've been some exclusive stuff for a construction-focused form or whatever. I really don't get why Riders without a connection to weapons have swords from the get-go every time now. Oh wait, I get it, toy-sales. It still sucks though. |

It would still look like shit (I actually forgot about the crappy gun mode, god that looks so bad) but at least it would match the main form. |
