Anyone else see that the Lupin Collection are all repaints of past toys?
|
Well, this is going to be my first time watching Sentai anything and damn, was that exciting.
And yes, the Gangler theme was so freakin' on point. |
Not bad. Setup is interesting, characters are likable (so far), suits are nice, the action is good... of course, it still has that new season-flavor, but I want to watch more.
It was also a much better first episode than Kyuranger's. But that isn't saying much. |

Well, the franchise has mainly been a monster of the week type thing, since 1975, that is a looooooooot of monsters........
It is kinda impossible to be 100% original at this point... The majority of monster costumes are made from parts that are not directly made to last either, most of them flake, or in some cases the rubber would just fall apart after a year or two in storage, even plastic falls apart over time so they likely have to remake large sections or parts of the various suits. Which was one of the major problems they had to deal with when trying to make reshoots for power rangers, I believe quite a few things had to just be cut because the suits where just falling apart. If I recall some of the interviews stated they had to film some suits from the chest up because the lower parts had fallen completely apart, or from a certain angle to hide the fact that major chunks of the suits had just fallen off. |
I wanna see what happens when the bad guys end up with Gokai Silvers Changer or the Gobusters changer that were in that Lupin collection shot

Also, is it implied that the main villains for this season have two abilities ? The monster itself has its own personal ability, then they have a second one due to the Lupin collection item locked within their bodies. At least our second monster seems to have multiple arms as his personal ability and the fire manipulation from the Lupin collection item. Does this mean monsteres will be able to lose or exchange their item, and get a new one giving them a completely different secondary ability ? If the main generals for this season use that as a tactic they could constantly change their skills. |
So I finally sat down and watched the first episode today. This is going to be my first time attempting to keep up with a Sentai weekly since ToQGer ended. Not that I disliked Zyuohger or Kyuranger, I just didn't have the time to keep up with them.
Anyways, my first impression of the show is pretty positive, the Lupinrangers remind me a lot of the Gokaigers and the set up is interesting enough, the fight choreography was amazing too. I think my one issue is the fact that the Lupin rangers addressed each other by name while on a mission. You'd think they would've come up with some sort of code names for each other or something. |
Okay first impressions:
There goes the budget :lolol But that said, excellent choreo that showcases why Lupinrangers are awesome. It was weird to see Yoichi Nukumizu who plays Kogure play the silent and cool type at first because I always see him play either a timid old guy or a bumbling buffoon in TV and movies, so I love that he gets to play a rather suave butler for a change. I still love Patrangers and I love Keiichiro/Patran 1. I really hope they give him a featured episode where he just goes all-out diehard badass cop during the show this year. |
Finally watched the episode last night and I was quite impressed. Loved the music, the fight choreography (especially with the way the camera shot the last fight), and the story setup is interesting. I got a bit of a laugh out of the fact that all the villains just chill in this evil mafia esque mansion and that they are pretty much a mafia. The rangers are interesting and I really like the relationship (at least shown so far) between the Lupinrangers. The Patros robot is also the cutest thing I've seen in quite a while next to the Lvr1 forms in Ex-Aid. All in all, I dig it. As much as I love Sentai I've had a lot of trouble watching them as they air, a lot coming from they haven't really interested me a lot. But everything before watching the episode had my attention and after watching the episode I'm hooked for now.
Also just calling it now, the butler is the original great phantom thief. |

Maybe it's the contrast with Gonza in GARO, but this butler doesn't seem friendly at all, and it feels like if it can give him a piece of the Lupin collection, he will stab you in the back without any remorse. |
We’ve seen that Ganglers can take human forms so he could also be a Gangler working his own angle. Either way, if he isn’t plotting something behind the scenes I’d be surprised. I can definitely see him as the one whom gave the VS Changer to the police.
|
That would be an interesting twist for sure. Heck if it turned out Dogranio was the thief and created the gang to get everything (maybe he loss them or something) back, that be a way to go.
In general though I really dig how the episode creates a lot of mystery as to what all is going on. I get the feeling much in the same way a lot of people would come up with theories or ideas as to how Gaim would go down, LVP could as well if it keeps the mystery/serial aspect going. |
my kind of show though they are not technically stealing they are returning stolen property to its rightful owners. I loved the persona 5 phantom thief angle this feels very much the same vein. Just make sure to make a collectable version of the lupin collection -i love that kind of stuff
|
Well, technically, everything was already stolen by the original phantom thief.
They were just stolen by someone else later on. |
I liked the episode too. Good action choreography. I thought the two Sentai teams would be overwhelming but it wasn't. I did like the planned alternating focus so the characterisation would not feel rush.
I still don't like the Lupinranger suits. I prefer the Patrangers'. But that Henshin, I dig it. And I liked the music too |
