how about Ultra 7:D
http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/l...1-16041551.jpg |
AH-HA! I already have Seven :D
|
That reminds me, it seems like I'd seen pictures somewhere of new Ultra Act versions of Ultra Seven and Hayata (although the latter might've just been the first version with a different cape on).
|
I have the Ultraman Hayata, Seven, Zero, Belial, Baltan 6, Leo, Glenfire, and Jeanbot (tomorrow!).
|
Alright guys it's time to convert an Ultraman newbie :o
I've seen some epicly cool Ultra-Act pictures recently and I want an entry way into the toyline. I'm gonna have to buy Gridman when he comes out for some good old Samurai Syber Squad love. But I've been eyeing a few others like Glen Fire, Jean-Bot, and Mirror Knight. I don't really like Ultraman designs in general but these 3 look just fantastic to me. Any chance I could be pointed to a series that won't blow my mind with how confusing it is? |

Also, Glenfire's one of the best, if not arguably the best Ultra Act right now, for one major reason. He has a really solid plastic build. Some of the older Ultra Acts were (intentionally?) made with a plastic that made them feel like vinyl. It's a nice touch but if you're not into Ultraman's vinyl history, it won't win points with you. But Glenfire feels like he's made of the same stuff as Kamen Riders. |

However... I got Jean Bot today!!! OMG! This figure is SICK!!! So many diecast parts I wondering if it should be consider part of the Ultra Act at all, I freaking love it (Thighs are a bit loose though, but better loose than tight since I haven't bought Shock Oil yet). |

http://i.imgur.com/5Q3UE.jpg http://i.imgur.com/ozpzw.jpg http://i.imgur.com/d5B0S.jpg http://i.imgur.com/ZaNq5.jpg I love DHL. Literally less than 36 hours since it shipped. Mirror Knight is the first figure I've purchased from Mandarake that actually needs some love (dents on the right side of the head, nothing major, as well as some joints needing a Future treatment) but is still the winner of the box. He's noble, has a sense of regalia and chivalry about him. The Mirror Wall is possibly the coolest accessory ever, the mirror knife (not pictured) is pretty cool and the yellow bits on him are all transparent. He's neat. Putting on the hands that have the mirror wall bars on them feels harrowing because of a long, thin clear plastic rod being pushed against very, very tight wrist balljoints, but be careful and no problems should occur. Belial pictures incoming, Rider 2 pictures to follow in the SHF thread. |

This is a villain. This is an almost cartoony villain in how absurdly evil he is. He's a monster. This is Giant Space Satan with a stick. The effect parts for the Giga Battlenizer (the space stick) don't come with Kaizer Belial, so if you like energy effects more than capes, this guy is the way to go. He also needs some Future polish love, though. |

Alright so where could one find a sub of the Ultraman Galaxy movie? This is purely for umm research? Well, shit I don't have an excuse. I want these toys and I need to watch something I can relate to them damn it! |
Ultraman Galaxy is the prequel to The Revenge of Belial, but The Revenge of Belial is where those three come on.
I think GUIS is the only one who did Revenge of Belial (they need a spellchecker) and I actually don't know what sub group I have Galaxy Legends from. |
Ultra Galaxy Legends was officially subbed by Tsuburaya themselves and was released on Region A Blu-Ray. Meaning, you can actually buy the disc and watch it at home with no issue whatsoever. Of course there are rips available... but the idea of actually posting links here bugs me a bit. There may also be a fan release that cleans up some of the accuracy of the subs, but I don't know if that actually got off the ground.
EDIT: I'm not gonna be all dumb and cry foul at the idea of getting it via other means, but this is one of those rare cases where something Tsuburaya has done for the Japanese market that still included a little nod to those of us in the West patiently awaiting our share of Ultrastuff post-Chaiyo. I harbor no illusions that, as a Japanese Blu-Ray, it's cheap, but it's one of those things I personally intend to get soon enough. Least I can do. |
Man, I need a Mirror Knight!

now I really want Jean Bot... But I got something good coming in the mail  |
Alright guys so I'm planning to ahead and order Glenfire and Jean-Bot at least and maybe wait for some more funds for Mirror Knight. I'm also downloading the first episode of Restudan right now to try and give that a shot :o
|
Retsuden seems like a interesting series to choose to watch first. Is it actually subbed?

Yeah, caught the GUIS thing after I said that, whoops.
Retsuden is a clip show television series. Some of the early episodes are memorable early moments from the series they cover and later on they're just the direct-to-DVD specials (like Darclops Zero, the prequel to Ultraman Zero) split into twenty-something minute episodes with narration. I don't know how much a new fan would get out of them since I didn't ever check it out myself. |

The movies! Just watch the freaking movies! :lol
You could still watch Retsuden too, the ones GUIS subbed so far are pretty straightforward. Or hell, buy the original Ultraman for six bucks or whatever on Amazon. Quote:

NEVAR.
(Maybe if you paid closer attention to your precious GUIS~. I don't have a handy link for Ultra Galaxy Legends though.) |

http://www.cooksux.com/therabbithaul...-Agul-V2-6.png Review: Ultraman Agul [V2] |
I guess it's not that you have a poorer opinion of the figure than I do, it's that your review consisted of "nitpick, nitpick, loose joints, very excellent figure". The tone of your middle paragraph doesn't seem to come close to reaching your conclusion! It's a quirk of your style really, which I'm abusing to poke fun.
I really, really need to pick up Agul to go with Gaia. |
I've been way behind on my Ultra-Act collection, so I decided to hunt around for one of the older figures. I found one at a relatively reasonable price that's becoming a bit harder to find, and is becoming expensive on Ebay.
This one arrived for me today... http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...1/DSC03956.jpg I'm loving all of the accessories that comes with Seven. Definitely a nice addition to the Ultra-Act collection. I may go after a Tamashiii exclusive next, but I'm debating between the Darclops and the Imitation Ultraman. I'm leaning towards the Imitation Ultraman as I'm a huge fan of the original series, but at the same time Darclops appears to be scarce now. Any suggestions on which to get first? |

I was all set to get the Imitation Ultraman, but getting the Tiga volume 1 dvd set in the mail a few days ago, watching the first episode for the first time with Golza, and Baltan II's tempting pic steered me in another direction. :D
This arrived today... http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...n/DSC03991.jpg I'm glad I grabbed him! He looks awesome! Took some pics too! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...n/DSC03994.jpg Detailing is incredible for this figure! It's pretty solid too! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...n/DSC03995.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...n/DSC03997.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...n/DSC03998.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...n/DSC03999.jpg It's nice to have a bunch of different Ultra characters released, but I'm pretty convinced the Ultra-Act line needs more monsters, so we can do more things like this... http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...n/DSC04000.jpg Now, I just need a version of Tiga to match up with Golza. |
