Got quite the haul today; three packages arrived at once!!

- Heisei 2 Ridewatch Stands x 2; already had this, just needed two more sets to have a complete set of 20 Heisei Ridewatch stands

- DX OOO Ridebook! Haven't had any Ridebooks (or many DX items in general) so this one should be fun. I'm hoping to one day have each OOO legend rider item, and this is my third in that collection!

- SHF Geed Primitive! My favourite Ultra, and this is in fact my first SHF Ultra -- excited to get this one opened

- SHF Build!! My second favourite rider, and this means I have all three of my favourite main Riders in SHF form; so this one's gonna be special

あああ~! I grew up watching stuff like this, I especially love Lam Ching-ying in these films. I have a bunch of them on old HK DVDs, but I haven't watched them in years, as I get squeamish about the chicken that is sacrificed during one part in the first movie.

I've taken a liking to HK martial arts/comedy films recently. I'm super glad to have all of these now.

They're such good fun. I guess I'm kind of biased in that Hong Kong will always have a place in my heart so of course I'm going to recommend these old movies, but there's such wonder in them, and they're made with such passion and creativity.

Not every film is a diamond, of course, but when you find those good ones, they're magic.

And I finished off the Halo wave with Kat (side note, I JUST Monday night finished playing through Halo Reach for the first time ever, with my 12 year old. We were sad that everyone died. But we had a lot of fun, so I've ordered The Master Chief Collection, so we can play through the numbered Halo games, of which I've only completed the first one, and only two or three levels of Halo 3).

That is one of my favorite games ever.

i managed to find the boomtower figure, alongside vargoyle, so i got both of them.

vargoyle is good! obviously missing paint in places, his eyes not being blue is the weirdest part, but the accessories and ball-jointed arms allow for some cool poses even without proper leg articulation.

boomtower is... bad. straight up bad. tons of missing paint apps, he's flattened down from his actual design (presumably to fit in the box, but still), and he overall looks way too skinny for the big bruiser bad guy.

the missing paint apps are inexcusable for the most part too, because almost all of it is the gold checker patterns, when the figure ALREADY has gold paint! i cannot tell you how much better the figure would look with just those pits of paint, he's so beige without them. i can count at least 15 spots on the figure that should have colors that are already on it. and obviously there's the ugly foil stickers.

he doesn't have balljoints despite those being the standard on most of the beast morpher villain figures, maybe because of his shoulder pads, but it makes it impossible to actually put him in any poses.

like i said, it barely looks like him, his shoulder pads are smaller, his chest is flat, his crest is shortened... ultra disappointing after even the bandai of america villain toys tried to be super accurate to the suits, but especially after the beast morphers figures.

also inexplicably his forearms are separate pieces? they're incredibly loose and can pop off with very little force. they're on pegs so you'd think it would be for forearm articulation but it really does not work.

his weapon is good though, even if its missing paint, but i can at least excuse that.

it'd be a real shame if this is the only villain figure we're getting for dino fury, like everything seems to be pointing to. even when they only released a single general, bandai of america at least TRIED to make them on par with the rangers. fury is still one of the best figures period of the last 5 years

This is only first wave of the line, so Kat is the only Noble team member so far. I have been told the contents of wave 2 have leaked, and it will have Emile. That makes me think they're planning to do all of Noble team in the first few waves.

Ooh that's promising. I've never bought a figure from that line or company. Are they nice?

I can vouch for the Master Chief figure atleast. It's not perfect, but for what it is, I rather like it.

A small Mandarake order (in volume, if not in value), alongside a couple plastic robot toys.

-Seihou Hibiki, because he's a grail and I had some okay money things happen.
-SHODO Kuuga and Kabuto, because I just started displaying my SHODOs and I'm trying to fill out their ranks.
-Kingdom Warpath, because I'm largely a G1 collector (not for nostalgia, I just like vehicle modes).
-Kingdom Cheetor, because I'd like to sample the new Beast Wars guys, even if I never watched Beast Wars and really dislike beast modes.
-Kamen Rider Specter and Kamen Rider Necrom, because... honestly, because it's KickHopper's fault.

So, previously, I had a rule for buying Figuarts. Main Riders only, and just their base suits. (Also, I can't take them out of the package and display them until I finish watching their series.) I'd get RabbitTank for Build, for example, and that's the only figure I'd get from that series. No power-ups, no villains, and no secondaries.

And then KickHopper came along, that glorious failure of a fraud, and all promises to myself got broken.

I'm watching Kabuto, KickHopper gets introduced, and immediately I'm like, I can make an exception for Kamen Rider What If That Sigh People Did When They Want You To Ask Them What's Wrong Was A Man. I start scouring sites for good condition KickHoppers, no dice, but then I start envisioning my eventual figure display: all mains, plus one jerk-off motion of a character from Kabuto. That'd look insane. Am I really going to make an exception for KickHopper, when I've been depriving myself of secondaries I've loved for way longer? I'm going to pick up KickHopper (and likely PunchHopper), but pass on Necrom, on Lazer, on Cross-Z's rerelease? That sounds crazy.

So, to better accommodate KickHopper into my collection (should I find a non-busted one), I've amended my rules. Mains and secondaries only, no power-ups or villains. (However! If a villain joins the heroes in a form, I'll get that one. Like, yes to Rogue, and yes to Zombie Gamer X-0.) And I decided to inaugurate my collection of secondaries (topical!) with Specter and Necrom, for two reasons. First, I really like those suits. I know folks don't all love that series, and I've heard these figures aren't that great, but I like these boys and I like their suits. (Necrom more than Specter, if I'm being honest.) The other reason was that I was already getting Hibiki, and I could add on the two Ghost secondaries without the bill being too high. They were reasonably priced! Probably because no one likes them!

tl:dr I liked a terrible Kabuto character so much I started buying Figuarts from other shows. I'm a Figuarts guy now. It's going to be some year!

Why buy the Shodo Kuuga if there's the Chronicle one?

Gotta admit, I'm pretty surprised you didn't go for the Shodo Hoppers instead, especially given those lines are covering a lot of secondaries you'd want!

I love my KickHopper CSM Zecter and it would be among the last few things if I ever had to pare my collection down.

I really wish Bandai made a Souchaku Henshin version of KickHopper so that one could get all the riders from the series. Now my only hope to complete a Kabuto Riders line is Converge.

I keep forgetting that the original SH figuarts were designed to sort of fit in with the Souchaku Henshin figures

I'm being serious when I say be careful, Figuarts is an easy whole to fall down. They're pretty addicting, but the costs can add up fast, even when you get them on good deals. I had to to scale back my SHF collection a bit after realizing I was spending way too much on them.

I am aware of the many pitfalls of starting/expanding a Figuarts collection! It... I am planning to keep things well-paced and curated. Even adding things like secondaries, it's not such a big ask? I've been cutting down on stuff like SO-DO and plastic robot toys, so there's a little room in the budget for them. Plus, I'd rather pace myself with them? I like the idea of getting a few older figures each month, slowly building out a roster, rather than maxing out a credit card to get everything. I would like this project to last me a little while!

But, yeah, I get that things can spiral out of control. I started with just I'll Get Only Mains, and a couple years later I'm like I'll Get Only Mains And Secondaries. But, like, collections change and grow? I'm okay expanding things every couple years, as one part of the collection gets closer to completion. I'm, right now, happy with my choices? I don't know. I like the little section of superheroes I got going.

Someone out there is a Secondary Riders Only collector and I have to imagine they are living their best life.

I don't actually have that many SHF, but I have: 2 main primary riders, 1 upgrade form, 2 secondary riders, and 1 whatever Genm Zombie is

Just received my prize package in the mail, along with my Black Hole Evolt SHF. Really grateful and thankful to Tokunation and the community that I have these now. Just gotta find Red and Gold's zords.
