Well, that earlier declaration was a Takumi/Faiz one, but Yes to Kaixa being an amazing anti-hero/maybe actual villain. He's someone who always finds some new low to sink to, and does it all with such hilarious disdain for others. My favorite Kaixa/Faiz bit:

He's 100% lying to Takumi here, and when Takumi's like I Think You're Lying To Me, you get Kusaka going HOW DARE YOU My Fragile Feelings. It's great! I love it all!

I haven't had the time to really look too deep at these yet (apparently the Wolf Orphenoch's legs in the movie were inspired by a grasshopper though?!), but I'm super happy this thread exists, and doubly so now that I see it's giving Die an excuse to rave about Faiz some more. I will never get tired of seeing Die rave about Faiz. :D

I have never seen Gransazer, but those designs are gorgeous!

The blue ones especially, Water Tribe if I'm following correctly, look like aqua-themed Mandalorians!

Two questions remain:

- How many installments in the franchise?

- Why are they not getting an official Western release!?

To answer your first question, 3. As for the second, most likely the fact it’s a pretty obscure show in the US and if they went for a mainstream release, it would probably be dismissed as a power Rangers knockoff and flop badly.

Androzani84 already answered this, but I wanted to second the sentiment that the suits were really pretty—and the music! My gosh, the music in these shows was amazing!

My favourite was the second instalment of the franchise, 2004's Justirisers, with a theme song, and an ending theme by SweetS, who were a big deal if you cared about idols in 2004, which I really did. :p

You should check out the other three tribes as well, the flame, wind, and earth tribes. Flame Tribe has a avian motif, Wind Tribe are insects, and Earth Tribe land mammals.

The Faiz stageshow stuff is... not exhaustive, so temper your expectations. It's, like, a sidebar on a page.

But, yeah, the stageshows are generally pretty great. I found the Build one to be of as high a quality as the series was. Some incredibly funny gags in that one.

That would be Ultraman Leo. It’s a fairly popular instalment (which is saying something, since in its own day, it was that rare show that had less than a hundred people watching it).

I just looked up Ultraman Leo, and I don't think it's that. (I used the phrase "Ultraman-style" because it's a team that grows big and wrestles monsters, which is what I think of as Ultraman's defining toku feature.) What's in the magazine seems like some non-name brand toku, and the costumes are more armor-y? I think it's some minor show from the 70s/80s that just happened to get a DVD release in 2004.

he has a real talent for these things, and I feel embarrassed that I have seen so little of the Heisei shows that he worked on, despite thinking of him so favourably. I should probably rectify this rather than living in the Showa era. :p
