So, what do we call this weird goober? Man? Shin? |

Really looks like they are going to push the alien angle. It does have that pseudo-lanky-humanoid stature that the EVAs had. Intended to make you ever so slightly uncomfortable.

I really like the extraterrestrial angle they are going with it.

Seeing this I hope they make a figuarts of Anno Ultraman from Anno's Ultraman student film just for hype sake. And include it as a bonus feature when the DVDs and Blu-rays are ever released.

Having said that, I implicitly trust everything Anno, even if I'm not that convinced about Higuchi's work and didn't initially warm to Shin Godzilla, so I would be willing to entertain the introduction of other Ultras, but to be honest, I think it's kind of good that we don't get to see the "expanded universe" right away. Just having Ultraman alone restores some of the mystery to the setting, I feel. |

Well remember, this is a budget toy of the design. The articulation is basic enough to make it playable.
If we were to see something like a Figuart (Will be shocked if we didn't) or other higher-end piece, the articulation would obviously look more streamlined and work with this version of Ultraman's more lanky, alien-ish proportions a lot better. |

I don't have a problem with how they're adapting the figures, since I'm probably one of the few people who don't have the budget to collect figuarts and just gets the vinyl figures, so long as the paint job is decent, though I'd love to. And that's not a bad thing, I was just stating how it looks to me, I don't hate the design or anything, or have anything against the figure makers, after all, the design is growing on me, much like how it did with Shin Godzilla, which at first, I wasn't sure how to feel about the design, and then it grew to the point of me loving it. I do plan to get figures from this, either figuarts, depending how it looks, or stick with the sofubi. Besides, I don't own any Ultra Action Figures to really compare and who knows, maybe the physical figure will actually look better than what we have of the one image.

I'm really excited for this, and I thought the CGI looked pretty good. Some of the comments here had me expecting tv series-level quality.

Aaand the SH Figuart just got announced
|
Do you think Neronga and Gabora will be the only enemies we will see in the film? I expect they'd throw in Bemular as the first kaiju, and for aliens it'd be Baltan as the final advisory.
Or in case there would be Shin Ultraman 2 they make the first one kaiju-exclusive and make 2 all about the aliens. |

And for the final boss - Zetton is the obvious choice but I’d say it would be too "early” for it to show up if Ultraman makes his first appearance within the movies running time. So I'd say Baltan as well. The plot could very well involve an alien invasion. @Topic: The announcement of the SHF made me realize something about Shin Ultraman. Many people say they use CG instead of a suit actor to make him appear more "alien". And they were right, kind of. Because seeing the SHF alongside the "classic" Ultraman SHF's (SHINOBI03 posted a comparison in the SHF thread) made me realize - Ultraman is more alien because he is more human. He's a believable living being on its own now, not a human within a suit. Kamen Rider and Sentai work because it’s humans wearing suits. But Ultraman is not a human inside a suit, he's a living being himself. While Shin is skinny and a bit elongated, the overall frame is not all too different from a human skeleton. https://i.imgur.com/Dcxnwk8.jpg |

Fighting giant monsters and stuff is really heavy on the joints apparently. https://i.imgur.com/B3oESum.jpg https://i.imgur.com/AvYw4MN.jpg https://i.imgur.com/DRsK7zp.jpg |
Yeah. I too think they might throw in Baltan as the final boss, though I would love to see Jirass come back, or Gomora or Red King. Though Bemular being the first enemy in the original makes me think he might appear in this. Also, maybe this is just me remembering Evangelion or Shin Godzilla, but I'm bracing myself in case Ultraman gets some kind of horrifying makeover at some point in the film.

Science indicates that were humanoid lifeforms were to exist in outer space, they would indeed be tall and lanky due to the different (lesser) gravitational forces. \
Also the human skeletal structure and material of bones has a theoretical limit of a human being like 45 feet tall before it would collapse on itself. |

Random thought but, knowing Tsuburaya, I wonder when Shin will crossover with "regular" Ultraman canon. He'll be a power-up / transformation trinket fairly soon I think, but I wonder if they will make a suit for him so he can appear in stuff like Ultra Galaxy Fight. Or leave him CG but still fight alongside regular Ultras.

In my mind it would be strange for any other kaiju to be in the film when there's no merch for them.

I want to see OG Ultraman and Shin Ultraman do this

I watched the trailer a couple more times and honestly, the more I watch it, the more excited I am. Screw Godzilla vs Kong, THIS is what I'm looking forward to.
|
After seeing the trailer several more times, I've noticed some things that suggest that this will be much different from Shin Godzilla.
First off, it looks as though our main characters (In the black suits like the members of the government in Shin Godzilla) are going to be the Science Patrol (Though maybe you already guessed that) since they're all wearing the shooting star badge. Next, it seems they're going to be more active than the government, which is to be expected since this is the Science Special Search Party, which seems to be them going the route of investigators or something like that. Another thing interesting is that one shot of the guy in a car pointing a gun, which means there might be aliens in disguise or some Ultra Q shenanigans (Have yet to see it, though I do own it.) And finally, there's a guy running through the forest whipping out, what I assume to be the Beta Capsule. Heck, there was a teaser image for the object in question when the trailer dropped. So the man in question could be Hayata. Honestly, if Godzilla vs Kong ends up being a letdown, this might be the one to make up for it, though I'm excited for both. |

Godzilla was dark to begin with; Ultraman on the other hand, while also featuring dark themes, is more of an exploration story of humans defending Earth with the aid of a giant protector. There will be some series spin or dark twist in there somewhere, but I don’t expect them to literally make Shin Godzilla II. |

An analogy for those who perhaps are uncertain what I am trying to say: it is the disparity between Watchmen as a comic book series in 1986, and Watchmen as a multi-million dollar summer blockbuster in 2009. |
Movie delayed because of COVID.
https://twitter.com/shin_ultraman/st...81358344486913 The trailer has been re-uploaded with the "Summer 2021" release date removed. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5t6qYNNkVlE |

At that moment the thought that it's a CGI character vanished from my head, it's Ultraman. I'm very impressed and I look forward to the movie more than ever now. I hope that I will be able to see it in a theater somehow. https://i.imgur.com/kTIkxqe.jpg https://i.imgur.com/WJhNCJC.png |
