The show typically goes either the bad guys try to defeat him but Sunred beats them up and scolds them for their milk toast tone or they genuinely ask for help from one neighbor to another only for Sunred to beat them up and scold them. Either way they are scolded or beaten.:lolol |

So, you want something like Evangelion? Then may I recommend Inferno Cop.
A bit more seriously, I’m currently watching Yu-Gi-Oh VRAINS, which has as its main character a guy who went through a lot of sh*t no child should have to go through and a lot of the first season is him hunting down the people who put him through it, while the second and hird season go into him dealing with the other fallouts from that trauma (since he was only one of six victims and all of them were captured purely to make a new kind of AI… which were deemed a failure, basically kickstarting a man vs machine plot) |

Also, according to someone who worked on VRAINS, it was going to go full-on Evangelion, with a "bad ending." |

Kudos to Androzani84 for bringing up Inferno Cop. That theme song. :lolol

Oh Inferno Cop is a classic and a pretty fast watch too!
Always a fun time! Edit: About the Yugioh Questions, usually each series is in it's own separate continuity if I recall. Arc-V is the only one that really tries to bring them all together and I think does the Decade method of them being AR Worlds anyway. And I don't think Vrain's is connected heavily to any prior series. That being said I'd totally recommend Yugioh GX, while being the most tied to the OG Yugioh, it has it's own fun story and kind of gets very Toku with a "Duel of the Week" kind of thing at the start. Then you end up like towards the end and you wonder "How did I even get here? We were dueling a monkey like so long ago! How are we here in this existential nightmare?!" |

We talkin Yugioh? Shit, I love that game~
Anime, ehhhhh Season 0/Toei anime is a closer adaptation of the first few volumes of the manga, featuring way more games than just the card game. It also is more violent than the following anime. However, considering it's status as "Season 0", it basically ends and disappears, and is completely unrelated to the rest of the shows. Duel Monsters (Or Yu-Gi-Oh Seasons 1-5, as it doesn't really have a subtitle) is focused on selling you cards, yes, but they also want to have more tense duels. As a result, you end up with feature length card games and a lot of Ancient Egyptian cheating to accommodate this. It can be pretty fun when the duels don't drag on too much, though. GX is more MOTW formatted, with a different duel each episode, rather than one duel lasting 5 episodes. It begins light hearted, but it does take a turn. GX also much closer follows the card game rules (Though Jaden/Judai still pulls wins out of his ass by always having some new fusion). 5Ds began pretty well, but quickly takes a dip in order to sell product (Including altering the rules of it's plot because a new characters' deck turned out extremely popular, so they wanted to market it more in the show). The card games on motorcycle memes aside, it did allow for some more visual flare to the duels beyond 2 guys standing 12 feet apart yelling at each other. Zexal is a show that happened. Contrary to the dub, you don't pronounce the X. Arc-V introduced one of my favorite archetypes in the game, Raidraptors. Literally never watched an episode, but hey, thanks for that! Sevens is a return to the more lighter tone, but considering how GX do, it could take a sudden turn, who knows. It also opted to change duels into Speed Duels, a new method of play, over traditional ones. ...Fuck, I really wanna play some Yu-Gi-Oh, now :lol |
I used to enjoy Yu-Gi-Oh until I figured out that a lot of the cards in the show were designed as plot devices rather than fun cards to actually play with. I mean, you can still play with them but the execution is terrible IMO...

Yugioh used to be fun for me up until we got to the Arc-V Era when they brought out the new type of summoning that just made me lose interest. Vrains especially so when they decided to alter the game entirely. So I just stuck with Duel Links whenever that came out.
That being said yeah, always go for the sub over the dub of any Yugioh Season, mostly because from what I recall aside from the OG Yugioh, none of the later seasons have complete dubs. They usually stop before the final season or arc. That being said in terms of dubs being talked about. GX is usually one that gets talked about the most. I don't know what was going on in that dub in regards to direction but there's a lot of sudden actor impersonations for various characters, whether it be Christopher Walken, Arnold Schwarzenegger, etc... GX was weird, but also probably my favorite of all the seasons. |

Or, the card has one incredibly specific purpose that the main character wins with, but in real life, that super specific set of circumstances rarely comes into play that the card is worthless :lol Quote:
I would never go so far as to call the anime good, but hey, it actually manages to make decks that are utter trash in real life look super hype, so it does something right :lol I think, if you didn't grow up with Yu-Gi-Oh, nor do you actively play the game, you might find it to be as interesting as the million other toy shill anime, but hey, it has to have some charm if it's stuck around for over 20 years now. |
When it comes to Yu-Gi-Oh, I would stick with the manga. The anime has way too many fillers, and multiple part episodes. I found myself being annoyed with the show when I try to re-watch it a few years back.

When it comes to Yu-Gi-Oh I always found the very early chapters of the manga fascinating, when there were new games and challenges each chapter, before the series focused solely on the card game. It was a bit simpler, a smaller scale, yet interesting IMO. Yugi's second personality was rather terrifying back then, almost evil. It was a bit gruesome and gory sometimes too, although even later chapters were like that sometimes.
The mystery behind it all was also rather cool, the Egyptian themes were a bit less obvious so when it came into play it expanded the world nicely. I don’t dislike the direction the franchise went into, even the later stories are sill interesting and even the card game was a bit more fun in the manga as it was almost a proper role-playing game with the amount of rules and stuff. Like how flying monsters can't fall into pits or machines are immune to magic. Won’t make sense in a balanced TCG but for having fun in a fictional world? Pretty cool stuff. Sometimes I re-read the manga, never really got into the anime. |

On the topic of Yu-Gi-Oh, it seems like people have been pretty thorough but I'd like to give my input. It started off as a manga series about a gamer, and they would play a variety of games. One of the games was Duel Monsters, which ended up becoming super popular, and the manga focused more and more on it as it went along. The first anime, which is just called Yu-Gi-Oh but referred to as Season 0 by fans, is an adaptation of the beginning of the manga, and focuses on a variety of games. It's not an exact adaptation of the manga, though. Then, they made a second series, also called Yu-Gi-Oh, which picks up in the story at the same point where Season 0 left off, but they're separate continuities and the second series solely focuses on the card game. This was the first season to come to the US. Since the card game was invented as an in-universe game, they didn't have a strict ruleset to follow, so the matches were determined based on what would be interesting to watch. When the card game came out irl, they had to come up with actual rules for it to follow, which the anime and manga gradually incorporated. I've only season Season 0 and the first two main storylines in the second series (Duelist Kingdom and Battle City). Season 0 is great, I highly recommend it. Season 1 is fun and has held up better than you would expect, but it's still an early 2000s anime about kids playing card games where the rules were made up as they went along. |

“Feet, don’t fail me now. Wait, I don’t have feet.” “(Internal) Maybe I can bluff him. (External) That’s exactly my plan. (Internal) I never was good at bluffing.” “I sold your entire comic collection to buy film.” “But digital cameras don’t use film.” Don’t you think I realise that now?” “Oh look at that, I made an offensive play. That’s why they call this Duel Monsters and not Solitaire Monsters.” “We’re looking for a guy named Bohman.” “Does he have a bow?” “No, but he does have rock hard abs.” “I think I’d remember someone like that, even if he had a bow.” “Ai, you are special…” “I’m listening.” “Unique in every possible way…” “Go on.” “Because you are the laziest, most self-absorbed AI that has ever existed.” “Say what?” “If you’d told me last week we’d be teaming up with the Knights of Hanoi (the arch enemies of the two characters in the conversation), I’d have told you to write more realistic fanfiction.” “So would I.” “I’m sending you to jail. Because you belong in an orange jumpsuit, not a white sweat shirt.” “Sorry, orange isn’t my colour.” And those are just my highlights. |
My favorite out of context line ever comes from the dub of Zexal.
"You just summoned your mom." |
If we're dishing out quotes , here's one of my favorites from GX
"Let's all shout at the same time and hope for the best!" *split screen between six characters*: "Yeah!" |
*Remembers the Zexal dub*
Dear god... Context: That was the breaking point for me when it came to Yu-Gi-Oh! and dubs in general. I could not stand Yuma's (The Protagonist for that series) voice, and I was losing interest in general. But then Arc-V came, which also marked the first Yu-Gi-Oh! series I saw in Japanese and to completion. It was good until about Season 3 for me. Though, apparently there was some issues behind the scenes, which may have affected the finished product. Now I loved the Monsters in Arc-V (Yes, even the Entermates) and the characters and premise were great, it just sort of fell apart later down the line, which is a shame. Now the current series, Sevens, is helmed by a different studio and is actually better than I thought it would be. My only criticism is that it was being advertised as an anniversary series, but so far the only thing remotely anniversary is the appearance of some Legacy Monsters and that's about it, but overall, I'm enjoying it. Yu-Gi-Oh! is certainly an interesting show (There's even a Toku influence as the creator loves Ultraman, and it's apparent in GX with the Elemental Heroes. Also when did this become a Yu-Gi-Oh! Thread? XD) that has some really neat monsters and stuff. But of course, it's not perfect, and not every series is quite for everyone (in taste), but it's something I still find myself coming back to every now and again. (Edit) Here's one of my favorite Dub moments from the Original: Joey and Tristan's Manly Victory Song. |

When you are the chosen hero but your antagonist dad is Ark from Kamen Rider Zero-One but with dragon powers, and one of your villain-turned-hero partner is Zenkai Gaon on Sundays. :lolol For those interested this is Dai No Daibouken and is a spin-off of the Dragon Quest franchise. The manga was serialized alongside the likes of Dragonball from the late 80s to late 90s in Shonen Jump and was by the same people who did Beet The Vandal Buster, story penned by Riku Sanjo(yes, THAT Riku Sanjo who gave us Kamen Rider W and Kyoryuger) and art by Koji Inada. |

The dubs do tend to insert some pretty fun lines to help break up some of the more formulaic moments.
I don't remember much of Zexal, since I was bored by it. One big problem I had was that the goal was to collect the 100 Number monsters, special cards with strong effects. Despite doing said task, the main character only really uses like, 10 of them, ever. Instead, his personal number, Number 39: Utopia, gets a billion different forms. |

Ah, you win some, you lose some, I guess? |

Like, imagine in Kamen Rider OOO, Eiji and Ankh still collected all the various medals, but instead of using like, ShaUTa, they used Super Taka, Mega Tora, Batta 3 and etc :lol So in Zexal, we had a main character with a massive variety of monsters he could use, and instead, he just used Utopia, but with bigger wings, or Utopia with a lion sword :lol |

Meanwhile, last gen featured my favorite starter and new all time favorite Pokemon, Primarina :lol
And concerning YuGiOh, I guess part of the reason why them collecting and opting to not use the Number monsters irked me so much was because of Battle City in the OG series, and seeing Joey (Another lead cast member) collecting and modifying his deck. |
Detroit Metal City. :rock::rock::rock:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8WOS1WNGrgU There's also a live action movie with the guy who played L (Kenichi Matsuyama) as the MC. And a special appearance of Gene Simmons from KISS himself. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6k2mo2t5l40 |

Watching a character customise and improve their deck seems like a big draw for a series so I can totally get why it would be frustrating to see later Yugioh shows just not take advantage of that. Quote:
It seems cute though... but please, don't start a conversation with me about music, otherwise you will be stuck here all day because I don't know when to shut up. :p |
While this thread's still goin, I present Yuru Camp if no one hasn't yet! They weren't kidding when it's just a fun comfort show. I just got through S1 a few months ago while I was at a quarantine zone while I got the 'rona rona.
Gonna get through S2 soon! https://thechuunicorner.files.wordpr...09/lt1wfa0.png |
