I can get into a folklore sentai series. I hope the dog is cute and leads to cute dog merch.

Has toei ever made a live action show with a fully CGI character in every episode/most episodes before? Is Vice the closest thing we have?
The only other thing that springs to mind is that we had CGI monsters in most Ryuki episodes I feel like? Tho definitely still far from every episode, and I'm pretty sure they recycled animation for Dragredder and Darkwing pretty often... I definitely feel like having main rangers be CGI would be on a whole other level than the monsters in Ryuki |
If Donbrothers is based on the story of Momotaro, I wonder what the 6th will be based on, maybe a Kibi Dango.

I'm just skeptical because Sentai's CG quality isn't too hot. So having 3 entirely CG characters means either lots of animation reuse, or Toei decided to up their yearly Sentai's budget.
|
I really do think there's something missing in the leaks. Like... remember how the Revice leaks said we'd be getting a secondary rider who uses evil riders, and a bat-based rider? What it didn't say is that those were the same guy. So when they say "CGI" I don't disbelieve them but I don't think it's the whole story and that it's not as simple as "they're CGI all the time"

I'm not sure if this is the case on Go-Onger or not but I hadn't considered the possibility that the animal rangers could be like, small CGI buddies of some sort, I was imaging full sized animals or humanoid characters, but if they're more like cutsey small characters it might be more feasible Tho as Kurona pointed out they don't even keep Rilki and Cuttaner CGI all the time so it is hard to imagine they'd keep main cast members as CGI 100% of the time? Still they could do smth like Rikki and Cuttaner where they're toys sometime and CGI other times? Who knows lol |

To me it seems like there's a lots of half-truths in rumours, it seems pretty common honestly I remember a zero-one rumour being that the gimmick items would be suit-cases, which nope, but there were multiple suit-case themed weapons, so it seems likely that someone saw some toy images and assumed the weapons were actually the gimmick items I also seem to recall hearing a rumour that we'd get a rider named "Kamen Rider Flint" in Saber, and while that never happened soon after Flint was revealed as a character for Zenkaiger, could have been a coincidence but does seem like maybe an instance of crossed wires Seems like it's easy for miscommunications in the world of leaks, and then once smth is leaked there's also the fact that the rumours get altered slightly as they spread and get translated into different languages, it leads to a lot of confusion and room for error We have gotten toku rumours in the past that were so spot on that it was ridiculous! But it's always best to avoid assuming rumours are real, it's so easy to kill your excitement for a show by getting excited for a version of it that never existed, then being disappointed because what we get is different from the rumours people were excited about |
That recent comment by Shirakura regarding Zenryoku Zenkaioh does have me thinking Toei might be investing more of their budget towards cgi and this could be the next step if it all turns out to be true. They already had a proof of concept run with Saber I think as well so maybe?

And I will say Saber doesn't really use that much CGI after the first little bit, probabaly still more than other rider shows, but they really wound it down after a while, mostly just some green screen and use of the wonder world background they already made, so idk if Saber really has me convinced they could do full CGI cast members consistently tbh |
In full honesty, if they cgi talking animals I hope they keep them looking like animals when morphed, like Yale in the PR comics.
|
So, how can Toei handle Avataro Sentai DonBrothers with less human faced characters during the COVID-19 Pandemic? I mean, they have to follow the standard and strict health protocols for the safety of everyone in the isolated shooting bubble locations, haven't they?
|
That's...a unique name. I wonder what it'll be like?

And honestly Revice feels like a pretty normal Kamen Rider series now, I'm honestly shocked by how many one off characters Revice can have when Saber barely managed to have like 5 human characters-of-the-week. While I think there are still decisions in Revice done to keep in line with Filming restrictions (for example having one group hanging around one base location a lot, and another group hanging out in there base location a lot is handled a lot like Saber, but unlike Saber they actually leave a lot and interact with new people) overall, it feels a lot more natural, probably since it was planned with those restrictions in mind from the start while Saber had to change a lot of its early ideas from what I've heard Tho I imagine DonBrothers will have some oddities still, whether they are CGI or not, I would not be surprised if we get another show where very few rangers have out of suit human forms I will say Saber's idea (that they mostly drop a few episodes in) of using CGI settings to make the world feel bigger might work if Toei is willing to really give it the budget to make it work, as well as having a good writer and concept to make it feel natural. Like if the show is video game themed it could be cool to see them go to a different video game world every episode! But I'd also be worried about that making the show feel a bit off, and I'd also expect toei to start reusing CGI assets fast, which would feel bad imo... so it might honestly feel better to just stick with a few good real world locations even if it feels like a slightly smaller scope |

Yeah, the Engines can be projected as holograms from the Morphers as small cartoonish avatars. If Donbrothers has the same simple CGI for the animals, then I think it would be probably be cheap enough for Toei to produce with consistent quality, while saving money on physical and suit actors who would only need to participate in fights. |

Btw, so far I've imagined the characters out of suit would be CGI, but then they'd have real suits with suit actors for their Ranger suits, is that what everyone else is thinking or are people imagining fully CGI Ranger suits (because I definitely doubt they'd have the budget for CGI suits every episode)? |

I always forget how announcement timing works. I seem to recall that the trademark tends to happen months before anything else is released, and that Bandai has done a pretty good job of cracking down on the toy leaks that the toku community used to rely on. When were Zenkaiger images released last year?
Unrelated: I wonder if the "Don" is meant as a partial pun on "dawn." |

We got the Zenkaiger trademark, then the trademark for some toys (Zenkaioh, Geartlinger, etc), then we got a silhoute of Zenkaiser as a promo for the movie road show thing, then a bit after an ad for sneakers or smth with Zenkaiser on it showed up online, but we didn't get any real look at the rest of the cast until the official poster, then I think some mech leaks slipped through maybe? But mostly we had to wait for the press conference, press releases, official website info, and stuff like that for most of our first looks There are still some reliable leakers in the toku scene, like Cranejoe provided some very accurate revice info early, but even he couldn't get us more than 1 image, so I don't know if we can expect much in terms of leaked images for DonBrothers Zenkaiger's press conference was in mid January, so we can probabaly assume the DonBrothers conference will be sometime in or around January 2022 Also it could be a pun on Dawn, but tbh in that case I'd expect it to say "Dawn" in the English title, and then just use the "Don" katakana in the Japanese title if that's the pun they were going for? Still rn I don't think we can say any guess about the title is impossible |

Do we have a scan of a toy listing, or is it from a reliable leaker, or is this a rumour people are saying on 2chan or smth like that? Like it sounds very possible, but if there's a source I'd like to see it, mostly so I could share it to other people lol |

- Red is to join the main cast of Zenkaiger in January - Zenkaiser and Zyuran are to stay on as regulars in Donbrothers - Red has a bike that combines with Zyuran https://pbs.twimg.com/media/FC2vat7X...jpg&name=large |

That's so strange, personally I really like Zenkaiger so I wouldn't complain if this was the case... With Zenkaiger splitting sentai into a multiverse I guess if the DonBrothers takes place in the same world as Zenkaiger it would make the Zenkaigers "the first" sentai of that world, so having them stick around almost as mentors might make sense? Hmmm, definitely gonna keep my eyes on this angle of the rumours |
I personally think people are taking "Zenkaiser and Zyuran are regulars" and blowing it out of proportion by saying the next series is Zenkai 2. I think at most it'd be more comparable to like, Ultraseven in Leo or some such. We know it's to establish a "feeling of connection", but I'd bet they're more like side characters and mentors who pop up sometimes and that Donbrothers is more or less as standalone as anything else
|
Quote:
Would also just be smarter that way, if it was a full on sequel then that would really alienate anyone trying sentai for the first time, and would probabaly make anyone who didn't enjoy or who skipped zenkaiger mad |
Also I just made this connection... Is Zenkaiger doing particularly well sales wise and/or critically? If they're planning on giving Zenkaiser any presence in the next show it makes me think Zenkaiger must be at least pretty popular, right?
Or is Zenkaiger doing average/poorly and this is super weird and random? (I don't normally keep too close an eye on sentai sales, tho I know about the general downward trend it has, so maybe there's a bunch of zenkaiger sales numbers that would answer my question, but I tried googling it and couldn't find anything too helpful lol) |

It could also simply be a thing of trying out a new sales strategy. Unless Zenkaiger was wildly unpopular, they probably feel that if sales are low they may as well take a risk and bring the current heroes forward into the next series to attract sales

Plus with the multiverse aspect of Zenkaiger it almost feels like a a very-soft reboot for Sentai in some ways, so it does feel sort of reasonable to have a connection point between Zenkaiger and DonBrothers, since DonBrothers is essentially going to be the second Sentai in this specific world (assuming they don't make DonBrothers take place in a different world, which I guess they might, I am making some assumption jumps here lol) Quote:
Personally I like Zenkaiger a lot but tbh I haven't been following the episode discussions on here very much so I don't really know how other people are feeling (I'll probabaly check out the thread for the last episode when we get there though) and I never feel like I have a good way to gauge if a toku is doing well in Japan at all tbh lol Actually, is there anything like IMDB but for Japan specifically? I'd be curious to see the scores of different series on smth like that |
But, how can a Changer that uses a version of the Sentai Gears become a bike and then transform into half of a robot? That doesn't make sense.

Tbh I could see them doing smth like that tho Having the changer be part of the mech line is a good way to get people who want to to buy changers but usualky not the mecha (like me) to consider buying the mecha by getting them to buy smth compatible with the mech toys, and on the other end it'll make it essential to buy the changer for any people who like the mecha but who don't always buy the changers (tho idk how often people buy the mecha but not the changers) From a marketing perspective it seems like a good idea to me? Though conceptually it is slightly odd sounding because of what we're used to from sentai, I think unifying the toy line and focussing it a bit more is proabbaly a wise decision honestly, that would basically take them from having two toy lines ("changers and gimmicks", and "mecha") and condenses it into one consistent toy line, any idea that could potentially reduce purchasing confusing for parents is probabaly a good idea imo (plus it might make the base mecha look like a better value? That'll also help sell it to parents) |
