My opinion might change when others get their signature Raise Buckles, but yeah, Buffa has my current favorite design for sure! The top half anyway.

The 6 months duration could be a good way to shake up the status quo halfway through the show, if someone actually manages to beat Geats and creates a dystopia as the new God of Desire. Ace loses his confidence as he feels weak for maybe the first time in his life and has to spend the rest of the show trying to get his world back. The DGP is like a trap, since it's not good enough merely to win, you have to keep participating to prevent others from trying to overwrite your world every 6 months.

Kagami lives on Earth. Earth revolves around the Sun. Sun = Tendo. Therefore, Tendo is the protagonist. Logic.

A better and more official example of a non-titular protagonist would be Shounen from Hibiki.

Yeah, that's what I think as well. The other Desire Riders will temporarily get to use signature Raise Buckles, like Magnum for Da-Paan, but they'll mostly be stuck with common tier Buckles. If I had to guess who would get which signature Buckles, I'd say NinjaFantasy for Tycoon, BeatsGrid for Na-Go and ZombieMonster for Buffa.

Sento's still has strong moral compass like his vehement denial of killing. Tendou is a social darwinist that can have lack of regards in his actions.

Same goes for the "final form being handed by the antagonist" (previous Battle Royale seasons had) which some saw as just them being lucky. It's punishment too. And to me that kinda makes Tsumuri suspicious and probably even villainous, Shiro Kanzaki and Sid were for doing that, again in Ryuki and Gaim.

The threat is meant to be a kaiju that looms over the city, dunno how would that be made without CGI here (and I know that there are lots of bad CGIs in Kamen Rider :lol).

Michinaga's stuff is often pulled in real life (that can glamorize cynicism/nihilism), against pretty much every kind of good deeds, responding to anything with criticism, sarcasm, and distrust of that person’s intentions. The view where everyone is supposed to have ulterior motives, bad, untrustworthy, and full of lies is often pushed. Of which it's more about them being like that but projects themselves on others. For this case, are you only refering to the DGP contestants?

Keiwa's behavior of not liking Neon's channel, that is quite common in real life and probably would earn him loads of supports on internet. Hating successful public figures like celebrities are often encouraged and praised as "noble" due to "standing up against capitalism" or something.

Well, the thing is, it's not that if someone was granted with superpowers, it means they're able to fight. It's just that they can easily crush something much more than normal humans, like the MOTWs, due to the superhuman power the Kamen Rider suits gave them. Not all those who are involved in a fight are actual fighters, they can just be throwing power around (and villains can be like that too, like Masamune becoming Cronus). Other than that, Keiwa thinking that the world won't change for the better means he's not all idealistic, but rather cynical even. Idealism is different from selflessness (to put others first and try making the world a better palce), the former is a view, the latter is action.

Yeah, only the DGP contestants. Tsumuri only seems to scout people who have desire to create a new world, so Michinaga's claim of all his rivals being selfish might be justified within the setting and he probably thought he was doing Keiwa and Neon a favor by letting them know that Shirowe who was boasting about his heroism had saved them as means of scoring points. The world was ending and their lives would've been reset regardless of whether or not they died.

Haha, yeah, it's a really shallow bandwagon though. Spreading hate on the internet is such a waste of energy, especially when it's aimed at a genuine article like Neon who hasn't done anything wrong to deserve it. Maybe Keiwa's just envious of her position, since she probably has money, power and connections that could be used to further his vague ideal of world peace. But instead Neon doesn't want any of it, only to focus on bringing happiness to her fans, which makes her more successful than Keiwa. Neon's ambition is small, but that's what makes it more attainable.

I don't think it's fair to put the blame on Switchblade for that mixup when it was the subs they watched that didn't clarify it.

I know the character referred to the female person as his sister. But only because I've read the subtitles. I know how Japanese people refer to their relatives, I know the words. But having them being spoken in a scene while my head tries to make sense what's going on - I don't think it's as easy for many of us to understand it.

I remember back when there were only two main sub groups, it often used to take until midweek. So for those of us who wanted to watch it ASAP, carefully listening to the Japanese words was the only option. Ironic how some subs translating something like "Onee-chan" as "[insert name here]" can actually detract from understanding instead.

Yeah, I my have watched the same subs as Switchblade, because mine didn't clarify their relationship at all, and I assumed Girlfriend. If it was ever specified, I must've missed it.

I'm 100% reliant on subs and I watch these shows and others for almost 10 years now :lol

The only phrase I recognize anywhere is the Japanese equivalent to "Are you alright? Please get to safety!" because they say that like at least 50 times in each show :lol

He just says "Ne-chan" like 2-3 times while addressing her. It's not that obvious either, I had to check.

My subs translated it as "Sis" so it worked out.

90% of Kamen Rider episodes have one of the main characters ask "Daijobu?" to the victim of the week, and roughly 50% have them shout "Urasenai!" at the villains. That concludes your "Learn Japanese with Tokusatsu" lessons.

But yeah, having checked, Genm-Corp at least seems to consistently go for "Nee-Chan" -> "Sara".

Think we all watched the same subs. The Subbers left out the normal pronouns, you could still hear them in the dialogue opting instead for their actual names. Incase of the sister we wouldn't even know her name otherwise.

Watched the episode. In general, I liked it, although, compared to the previous ones, it seemed a little uninformative. That is, we know only a little more than Cave, but hopefully all the secrets will be cleared up in the future (and preferably not as quickly as last year). But the episode paid a lot of attention to the action, which is very cool. I absolutely love Geats' fighting style (although, as usual with Ryders, he ignores the fact that firearms are meant for ranged combat). And the aggressive combat of Buffa is not bad at all. Also, the deaths of civilians and Ryder are shown very cruelly.

As for Ace's character, I'm not a fan of this type, but so far it works. I like his relaxation and the way he sometimes seems to forget where he is and what he is doing. In general, as long as he talks less about his coolness and shows it more, everything is OK for me.

And some theories/questions:
1) Before going on a mission, Ace talked to the game manager. And at the end he appeared in a very similar outfit, only black, not white. Is this a hint that the manager was the winner of the last game?
2) Buffa works as a builder before getting Desire Driver. Given that this is already happening in the world Geats created, can hard work be a mockery of the main competitor?
3) Will we see a schoolgirl and a housewife shown at the end of the episode as riders?
4) Also, I'm wondering if there will be an analogue of Hiro Eiji, that is, a person without desires, in the show.

Yeah, these are the subs I watched and that's how they handled it. I've actually always disliked translating "Nee-chan" or "Onii-chan" into names instead of "sis" and "bro" for family or "miss" and "mister" from kids to friendly adults. This is the first time I can remember not catching it in the dialogue and the subtitles actively throwing me, though.

Either that or Someone whose desires to end the DGP entirely

I was not looking forward to Kamen Rider Fortnite...

But after watching this debut Episode, I'm actually invested!

Okay, maybe that's too strong a word, but I am intrigued, nonetheless.

So, I like how Keiwa feels like the protagonist (almost reminds me of Build's debut in a funny way), and I do like the way it's done here. One main reason is our protagonist Ukiyo, it's been a while since we had a cocky hotshot for a protagonist, but the fact that right out the gate moving into the next episode, he's already living the rich life as a boss, now that's some Tsukasa vibes, and also those words from the trailer makes sense now.

I loved the cinematography and just about everything we got from the Riders, loving Geats and his tail scarf and Buffa with his dreadlocks and coattail, and the Voices for the equipment is magnificent, already some of my favorite batch of merch. And Geat's bike, love how it's a kitsune as well, and even if this is probably the only time we see it, it sure got a lot done in its run.

I like Keiwa. I knew he was going to say World Peace right when they asked him that question. But I like how he's Haruka/OniSister and Tsuyoshi/KijiBrother in one, I'm interested in seeing more of the other characters, but I liked the Polar Bear guy for what little we saw of him.

What I'm assuming is the opening is... Not my favorite. But I'll wait for the actual opening and song to be released before I make my judgement, but from I could make out is that it's like LiveXDevil but not as cool (You can't beat the Pillar Man Theme). Again, I'll wait a bit, but for now, not the best first impression.

I'm also loving the slightly more serious tone, not as much goofy shenanigans as the previous shows, not that I had anything against humor, but it was nice to go back to (almost) early Heisei Rider in tone. Overall, I'm intrigued, and I hope they can keep strong with this series!

This was a cool/interesting start. I could be very into this show!

People keep comparing it to Fortnite and Battle Royales and such, but with being given missions and scoring points it's more like The World Ends with You which I also like. Even the barbed wire barrier thing between Keiwa and his sister is straight from TWEWY.

I still love the Hell out of Geats' costume. Buffa's is also really cool. Very Chaos Space Marine looking.

I look forward to watching more of this. It's been a while since I've been watching the current Rider, Sentai and Ultra. I don't mind it though!

I believe somewhere it was said that the inspirations were, Fortnite, Apex, Kaiji and Squid Games.

I have associations with Gantz, only for a younger audience.

The sort of Panda/Bear suit is really reminiscent of the things you can see in Fortnite and to be perfectly honest, when I first saw it on screen....I found it to be as ugly as those suits in Fortnite....urk...

I'm not invested but I'm intrigued. This makes me think of a mix of Ryuki for the stakes, and Kabuto for the protagonist, cocky protag, but different enough from all the previous ones to be unique.

I'm not a fan of the Battle Royale type thing but again...I watched Ryuki and was totally fine with this series so, I'll give it a shot.

Waited for someone I'm familiar with to sub and while I'm not exactly super excited, I'm not disappointed either, the setting seems good, action was kick ass, Ace seems differemt enough from other 'started with experience' Riders of the past which is nice, Keiwa interests me as he feels relatable so I wonder how his story will go and Buffa's fight looked fucking sick, busting through a wall and the sword's chainsaw function being believable. However, the true highlight to me here was all the cool shots we had of Geats himself. Maybe it's cause the alst time I watched KR was 5 episodes of Saber before finding out GenmCorp stopped but there were multiple times I felt "Man that looked sick." Haven't felt that since Build either with Kamihoruichi or whatever he's called. Very promising start, so I'm back in KR again.



Also man I feel that the 'Keiwa hates Neon' thing from a page or two back was looking too much into things, Keiwa just seemed apathetic towards streaming

To be clear, I didn't say "Keiwa hates Neon", only that he didn't like her stream. Considering his idealistic front, that moment where he doesn't understand Sara's explanation of Neon's appeal is a hint at his deeper cynicism. Like he said he wanted to win a lottery, so he could donate it all to charity, while Neon has wealth that she doesn't want. So it makes sense that he'd find it hard to relate to her, maybe feeling like the ones who have the power to change the world are the ones who aren't inclined.

Keiwa didn't say that though, he said he wanted to win to have an easy life before his sister said he'd probably donate it to which he goes "Yeah I probably would". He didn't seem to have an issue with her in person either

In either case, Neon has something material that Keiwa finds desirable. Neon was born with the silver spoon so she has an easy life and she has wealth to spare for charity, as Sara suggested Keiwa would do if he had that kind of money. I doubt we can infer much bitterness from their first meeting, since they were probably more focused on like, surviving an apocalypse, maybe?

They fixed a lot of issues I had with the subs I saw before. Interestingly enough, they didn't translate "Ne-chan" as "Sis" either, they wrote her name.

I liked their work though; I think I'm down for Excite Subs this year.

I guess I'm the only one here who was not feeling this first episode at all. I dunno, maybe I've just been burned by the last few years. Knowing this will probably be the last time we will ever see Geats' bike, or the fact that we're going to be drowning in dozens of forms by episode 20.

Reiwa era Riders so far have really not impressed me that much outside of the first few episodes of Zero-One, and that show's momentum collapsed before the halfway mark. Geats, from what I can tell, doesn't look to be changing that trend. Toshihiko Sahashi's music, which is almost always a highlight of any series he's attached to, sounds rather muted from what I've heard so far. And the most interesting character of the lot was killed off before our main Rider even made his appearance.

I'll be surprised if I manage to stick with this weekly.

I'm not gonna tell you you're wrong to not be excited for this, but I feel it's worth noting that Geats already had 4 forms shown off in the first episode counting the Entry form even though it doesn't really feel that way, especially as there's multiple Riders with the alternative forms being designed to easily work with the entire cast

Well it's only one example of Sento's I mentioned, not all. Tendou is no murderer, but he'd be usually more inclined to be merciless and make cruel decisions without much thought, though regarding Worms they're mostly threats. The outcome may be the same to characters who resort into killing monsters, but how someone behaves makes the difference too (e.g. thirst for revenge targeted at bad guys vs stopping bad guys from causing harm). Him showing some hesitation like when killing Tsurugi is more of a rare occurrence by comparison.

Neon is wealthy, and not agreeing but it seems that getting wealthy by itself is seen as doing something wrong, as it's seen as perpetuating social inequality and absorbing money from those who actually need it, doesn't matter if they're aware or not. And someone with privilege seems to be prohibited to complain about anything (of which Neon wanting a normal life can count), because they are seen as not being 'grateful' to what they already have that many others work and sought for. Though regarding Keiwa, I have some relation in his disinterest to rich girl's daily activities, like why putting well-known rich public figures on pedestal, they're all humans too, should be viewed equal.

Yeah, called it too that he'd have world peace as his goal. Though it means it's sad that the perception seems to be that personal aim and selflessness to others can't co-exist in someone, but it's just how many writers depicted those (Keiwa does have it addressed though which is nice). It's not known what job was Keiwa applying too, but there are far more jobs that are more suitable for Keiwa to enter to promote world peace, like those noble professions such as cop (how Kagami ended up in Kabuto) or such.

This is probably one of the cases where the battle royale actually had the outcome being shown (and annually held with already established winners, like sport seasons). Ryuki did have multiple iterations of the battle royale, but it never truly had its end reached until the actual end of the series (due to all the different iterations being resets), so it's more like many battle royale premises. Wonder if someone, like Ace, had to continually win DGP to prevent depraved people using the wish to wreak havoc the world when they win, albeit that can make DGP ran out of participants if the world is extinct or such and Tsumuri can't hold it annually for yet unknown reasons.

The number of forms may be "inflated" (OOO kinda is too) due to the combination of the version of Entry, only equipping one-half of his body with powers or equipping 2 at once, plus switching positions (I don't know yet what's the function of that), but so far the powerset Geats have shown to use is only 2.

Oh hang on I think the storyline's obvious here. If the DGP lasts 6 months every time then I have a feeling Geats has just kept winning because it's fun, wanting to reset the game every time which maybe resets deaths of other participants. Then somewhere around the halfway point of the show, someone else wins and decides to make a killing game out of the deal. Maybe Takahashi'll surprise me but that feels the most obvious

I'm not sure he won many times. Buffa was rather dismissive of his being late for the mission, and if Ace was a multiple champion, then Buffa would certainly have suspected a trick. Though it's also possible that this was first season for purple rider and Geats simply chose not to announce his status.

I mean like, multiple games as a whole, the episode started with Ace getting the driver and knowing exactly what was up without reacting to memories flooding back in, suggesting he didn't get memory wiped from the game prior to that

Yeah, some people just let their envy turn to toxic jealousy. Neon didn't even get wealthy, rather she was born in to her family's wealth, so her financial status isn't even something she can control. Keiwa can only judge her from his own perspective, he doesn't understand her struggle to leave that world behind and might push the self-righteous belief that Neon is "wasting" her assets on bringing happiness, instead of "world peace". I think he has the potential to become an antivillain later, if he gets too zealous about it.

I think Ace's motivation is a little more heroic than that. The DGP seems to transcend the rules of the world, so if someone is unhappy with Ace's world, then Tsumuri gives them opportunity to change it. I also assume Rider deaths are exempt from reset, since Shirowe is absent from the new starting group of 7 Riders which includes Buffa from the previous game.

But yeah, someone's probably going to become the new God of Desire in 6 months. The new world could be a killing game (created by yet another monochrome bear) as you predict, or Tycoon could win and wish for "world peace", which will go badly wrong.

Haven't got a chance to watch yet, but I'm hoping tycoon and geats form a close primary and secondary rider bound. It's been a bit since we got one of those last one was Geats and Zi-O I feel like.

I could see it hapening honestly I'm JUST HOPING Takahashi doesn't turn this into Ex-Aid 2(signs are so far saying no but I'm confident whenever an evil rider debuts it's that (I don't think Buffa would be said evil rider he'll likely be an anti hero rider for now but not THE Villain (Think Taiga from Ex-Aid))
