I'm both excited and extremely mournful.
|
That premise has me kinda worried, but I still plan to see it the day it drops.
|
Very cautiously optimistic about this one.
I want it to be good, and it looks like it has a lot of production value in certain aspects. The story though uh... they are treading a thin line I feel and need to very careful. |
Apparently there have been some leaks floating around. Since they're not worth addressing, I won't even dignify them with a spoiler warning.
|
So the very plot point we were afraid of is ultimately gonna happen! It does appear as though it's not something that happened years ago with some unseen battle, but the end result is the same.
That being said, it's obvious that very few people are going to really notice or even care! https://comicbook.com/powerrangers/n...fan-reactions/ One thing worth noting is use of the words "kill" and "killed" which are decidedly uncommon in the franchise! They've been said before... kinda, but it's not frequent! If that's supposed to be the Mighty Minotaur and Snizzard (per the rumors), then those are extraordinarily different and fun! The Zord Sequence is definitely copied from Zyuranger to match the look and tone, but it's hard to peg that as just straight-up CGI. It almost looks like stop-motion animation was used, if only as a pre-production work guide. Will definitely see it cause it's definitely going to be one of the most significant crossovers in the franchise, but I get the feeling that you can only love it up to a certain point even if it is good and fun and nostalgic and popular! They clearly made a questionable choice here. I'm actually curious why so many classic actors signed-off on this as the right thing to come back for! |
Yeah, I noticed the 'subtle' plot-point.
As someone whose favourite Yellow Ranger growing up was Trini Kwan, seeing her get knocked off a cliff (if that's what's implied by the Rangers rushing over to the cliff just after Robo Rita blasted her) feels like my childhood received a massive roundhouse kick in the balls. I get that they needed to pay tribute to Thuy Trang, but this is not the way I would've wanted her character to go out. It reeks of a last-minute rewrite done to cover up an earlier draft (likely the one JDF received) and just feels wrong. Trini might not have been the deepest character or the most developed, but she deserved better than this. |
I find it ironic that Rita becomes a robot in order to take revenge on the rangers when it was actually the Machine Empire that sidelined her in the first place.

I talked about the possibility of Trini getting Kendrixed before, so as far as death scenes go, I think they're seriously trying to make this personal for the fans as much as the characters. I don't want to bite my tongue though, I'll have to see the execution of this plot. Quote:

I don?t mind Trini dying. I don?t get all the negativity surrounding this project.
|
I don't suppose there's a chance Bryan Cranston will be back to voice his most iconic role :p

In the previously seen group shot, Adam (Johnny Young) looks like he's wearing something akin to S.P.D., and I'm not the first to notice this! The origins of Robo-Rita are also curious. Created off-screen by Zedd? An old duplicate made by the Machine Empire? Gasket and Archerina? Scrozzle using Ryjack's Reanimizer which was last seen being used to create Goldar Maximus? The dark background as the Megazord wields the Power Sword also makes me wonder. Are they going to supplement the special with Sentai footage, perhaps using Ultimate Dai-Satan from the Strongest Battle? I'm probably reaching, but they did adapt Satan Minosaur as Lothorn, Lokar's nephew. I also find it odd if we have Zedd back and he DOESN'T interact with a robotic duplicate of his wife! Also, isn't Rita supposed to be the Mystic Mother (or generally accepted as such thanks to Udonna's "known as Rita in the dark days" line)? Possible reference to Thrax? Appearance by the Sentinel Knight, who killed Thrax? Cameo by the Dino Fury Rangers? By the Morphin' Masters? Lot of variables left in play. |
They got Barbara Goodson and Richard Steven Horvitz back!
I'm really not sure how I feel about them killing Trini off like that (and then just up and having her new daughter take over as the Yellow Ranger). So was there just some location benefit to summoning Rocky and Kat because they needed a Red and Pink? Because thematically Jason and Kimberly would've made more sense even if I get they couldn't get the actors back. I wonder who the Green Ranger is (unless that's actually Tommy and that's the entire original lineup together because of the time travel). Holy crud, the Zords! The Megazord! I wasn't sure we'd get that at all! Are those suits or CG though? Quote:

What I do mind is how they killed her off. Having her die at the hands of a new, more powerful enemy none of us ever heard of prior to her appearance (Robo Rita IS a new character, she's not the same person in a new body), by being blasted off a cliff. |
(Let me preface this with everyone is entitled to their own opinions and has the right to express them. Having said that, in coming rant.)
Most of the comments I've seen throughout the web are people complaining about Trini dying or how she dies. Some people are complaining that it should have been done off screen, but I can guarantee those same people would complain about her dying off screen and/or it not being done "properly". Let me say this. THERE IS NO PROPER WAY OF DOING THIS. People are going to bitch and gripe regardless of how it was done. I'm just glad that we have some form of closure to Trini and her story. Personally, I would have killed her off too. Thuy has been gone for over 20 years. Simply saying that Trini retired and never gets active again is fine, but it still eludes to the possibility that we could still see her in some capacity, be it cameo or something. This is a universe where the world is constantly under some kind of threat. So her never making an appearance again of any kind is absurd, she could be approached for guidance/advice. Killing her off (regardless of the method) ends her story and puts an end to the hope of seeing her again. As much as it hurts me, because I loved Thuy and Trini, I'm glad they killed her off. And part of me is glad that it was Rita in some form or fashion. Because Robo Rita is Rita. (At least in my opinion she's Rita's evil essence housed in a new body. But that's a theory for another time.) |
Respectfully, I have to disagree with the above post. If we were being generous, I'd be fine with her dying in some great last stand, maybe if she had shielded Billy from Robo Rita's blast. That'd be a great way to honour the character's legacy, while still telling the same basic story.
However, there's just one snafu. The Green Ranger is present. Even though JDF, prior to his death, outright told Hasbro that he did not want to be involved with the Reunion Special. |

I'm not saying it's morally right or wrong, all I'm pointing out is that there's a certain expectation when it comes to anything MMPR related, like it or not. |

First, S.P.D. and Adam. Second, Robo-Rita and time travel. Third, J.J. is clearly meant to be young in "Dimensions in Danger". Fourth, J.J. becomes S.P.D. "B-Squad" Green with the Dragon Shield in "Soul of the Dragon". Could Robo-Rita's time travel agenda be hijacked and used to bring an older J.J. from the future into the present, thanks to Adam, which allows him to morph into Mighty Morphin' Green!? It's just one possibility. |
People are JUST NOW noticing Adam's SPA uniform? This ain't news and it was seen MONTHS ago
|
In fairness, I've heard there are some leaks regarding the Special's script that were floating about....and were debunked anyway.
Leaks that I've never even heard of, let alone read. |

There are some franchise-first positives to this special.
Rocky, Aisha, Adam, Trini's Daughter, and Kat are all in this. Rocky and Aisha have used the respective Power Sword and Power Daggers before, but I don't remember ever seeing Kat use the Power Bow before as the Power Weapons were "retired" by Season 3 when Kat debuted! In addition, with the conversion from Dinozords-To-Thunderzords in Season 2, neither Rocky nor Adam nor Aisha nor Kat were ever shown piloting the Dinozords! The only real time they might have gotten close was during the '94 (or was it '95?) Stage Show when Dinozord/Shugozyu Cockpit footage was recycled as the Thunderzord Cockpits! One could argue that the weapon issue is contradicted with "Legendary Battle" and "Grid Connection", but we have no confirmation (as of yet) as to who exactly participated as Mighty Morphin' Rangers during those battles! |
I'll watch as soon as Cobra Kai comes back to finish for Series VI
so I can catch Cosmic Fury and Cobra Kai together. Also at that time will be Pocket Monsters Gen 9's Anime and Disenchantment Series V so it will be a full boat for me on Netflix. Also Power Rangers will have their 31st series on Netflix by then so I'll watch those new episodes. I did finish Dino Fury on Netflix. That was a crazy last few minutes but a good finish. |
Amy Jo has "clarified", in a manner of speaking, some of the confusion surrounding the reason(s) why she refused to appear again!
Don't expect a particularly serious or informative response. http://ukiyaseed.weebly.com/ukiyasee...niversary-film |
In all fairness, out of the entire team, Kimberly's departure was the most complete. She went out on her own terms, kicked ass for one final time, then passed the torch to Kat. She's done more than her fair share.

What about her canonical last appearance in the Turbo Movie? |
We don't talk about Tur-Bo (No, no, no.)
|
Slightly off-topic, but I just realized that this special releases on the same day as the Burning Shores DLC. Next month is going to be awesome!
|
Can you all imagine if Aisha visits Minh and offers her the chance to take her mother's place as the new Yellow Ranger?
Minh: But you were the Yellow Ranger too after mom once, right? Why don't you take her place? Aisha: I wish I could. But I feel better off helping the team, in the sidelines. You got what it takes to honor her memory. I'm sure she'll be proud of you for doing it. It's what she wanted to do on that day. |
You know what?
I'd be okay with that. |
Ultimate Journeys should also be at some point dropping
the last episodes. Another reason to hold. Also Netflix. As for the special I bet a new Ranger gets the Dragon Zord Green Powers. Either that or Jason is Green and Rocky red. Possible line up Rocky (Red) Kat (Pink) Trinni's Daughter (Yellow) Jason (Green) Billy (Blue) Zack (Black) Aiesha (Mentor status) I only call this partly due to Jason using the Dragon Zord powers as Red Ranger. Rocky actually was MMPR Red. |

Calling it now; that's Matt.

I wonder who'll take Tommy's place? His son JJ or someone new in a "Batman Beyond" way?

Just because an actor dies, does not mean their character automatically died at the same time in the same way. The special’s premise is partially based on Trini living to 2023 and dying in battle, not dying in a car crash in 2001. |

I've watched MMPR - Dino Fury.
Has Kat ever used Pink Pteta Power in MMPR I - III? I saw the special on Daily Motion. (Stream feed) |
