What's with the confrontational attitude? All I said boils down to 'if it ends, that's that, but if it doesn't, then we had a nice run.' Maybe take a chill pill and touch some grass? |
I had forgotten about the whole "Toei is working on a new tokusatsu series" rumor. I certainly think it is related to whatever is happening with Sentai at the very least, but am struggling to find the source where the new series was brought up. Does anyone have a link?

Tbh I get why some people would freak out over all the responses in this thread. If only because like, idk, I feel like 90% of people deciding to have a premature eulogy for a franchise just because a website said "this is totally happening" in the most vague terms possible is kind of weird and should be questioned.
Anyway, as much as people would wave off Rangerboard, they've consistently shown that they are connected to people who give out real rumors and leaks. Especially when it comes to giving us details on things way before they happen. So I'm willing to hedge my bets on the rumors that state we're getting some kind of weird magic show that's very much sentai related but likely tying into a rebrand because it's going to be named differently than prior. Especially since it's from people who have had a good track record as well. That's also not to mention interviews where we've had people from Toei already mention wanting to do a name change in regards to how Sentai is titled. |

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- That said, assuming this is just Toei rebranding Sentai for their International effort. (Which btw I did look around, here's the thread: https://www.tokunation.com/forums/sh...ight=tokusatsu Then yeah, me trying to say my peace on the show is gonna age hilariously poorly. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Quote:

http://www.tokunation.com/forums/att...1&d=1761943546 While not directly confirming them wanting to rebrand, it's clear that they're wanting to do new things with how the series is named just from this little snippet. Which you know, given the rumors of what we're getting next year having a different naming convention would fit with this line of thought. |

I really hope Toei and TV Asahi gives everyone a clear answer ASAP, because if it's done for good, than so be it. But the possibility of rebranding and keeping it going in some form or another is always welcome. |
Apparently money made off Super Sentai wasn't enough to offset production costs

This company has been around decades y'all, they DO NOT pivot in a matter of 3 months from "We are moving to producing our 2 decades-long running shows at unprecedented scale to catch international audiences ALONG WITH A 3RD NBEW SHOW" to "We are cancelling our most internationally, generationally, known series, because niche local live shows aren't generating enough income and toy sales are... as expected last year and the year before... down, we just didn't realize this all 3 months ago." BUT!!! I DO believe there is a kernel of truth there. Theres a good chance that new numbers prove to them that they need to force new initiatives. They may move away from local lives to doing more streamed specials, because the audience, as they MUST have realize, is ALL ONLINE. You are not talking to someone in person about toku rihgt now. I do not know what continent you are from. This has been major talk in the Toku community for longer than the "Toku Decline/Cancellation Debate", we all know that many many potential revenue streams have been being ignored as old revenue streams dry up. The Toku merch available in the west has never been adequate, live streaming with subs took way too long, etc. TOEI finally, 3 months ago acknowleged a whole series of problems that when fixed could lead to serious hikes in revenue AND projected revenue. New markets create HUGE income potential for companies like this with established infrastructure. Basically, to sum it up, i suspect if ANYTHING negative happens, its going to be a short break and a return with one of the most decked-out glossy sentai you've ever seen (Maybe with a naming convention change but I'm highly skeptical about that.) |

One point of contention, though. I do expect next year’s sentai to be called something along the lines of, “Robo Universe Something-ger/man/etc.” There are some pretty strong indicators that there is a legitimate rebranding of the franchise in the works. |

Gotta think this will affect things like Chou Eiyuu Sai and others of that nature.

Some rumors/speculations according to a Japanese entertainment news site.
- A new type of tokusatsu hero show with a different kind of story and character structure likely is being planned. - Show may start airing February 2026, and auditions have apparently begun according to an insider. - Protagonist may be a detective/investigator in their 20s, shifting the show to be more of a detective drama and filming is set to begin at the end of November (and detective shows are apparently TV Asahi's drama department's strong suit). - Huge shift likely due to slow merch sales which has been a growing concern for a number of years and the thought of "a sentai team of multiple heroes" possibly being out of fashion could also have been what made this change to take place. The thought that comes to mind personally at the moment (should all the above be true) is maybe it will still be a team but we get a core hero backed up by a crew that collectively forms the team. So, it would be we get the "red ranger" of the show being the hero and what were the blue, yellow, green, black, and pink ranger-equivalent will be the supporting cast that completes the ensemble, with a tsuika senshi later being added like secondary and tertiary riders depending on the narrative. In a sense, it kind of feels like the shift that Metal Heroes had where they started with a singular hero like Gavan or Janperson but later shifted to having multiple heroes like they did in Winspector or B-Fighter. Of course, not saying it will be exactly like it since the Super Sentai brand may be dropped completely for a totally new tokusatsu hero brand. Quote:

https://bsky.app/profile/rangerboard.../3m4seysvezs2g Looks like we might have our new name |
Universe Heroes is a term that Gozyuger uses, right? I suppose this means that the followup will at least be a spiritual successor to Super Sentai in some form.
At this point I strongly suspect that the new series will be a team hero show but breaking away from standard Sentai tropes like giant mech fights and the fact red is almost always the main character, which are quintessential to Super Sentai but make for a terrible merchandise approach nowadays. It remains to be seen just how much of a shakeup this new series is, it could be anything from Legally Distinct Super Sentai Clone to something very new and exciting that just takes a few notes from Sentai. |
So it is just a rebranding? Yeah, like I said before, this feels like a last ditch desperate effort to save the franchise. I don't see how slapping on a new name is going to save the series from general lack of interest.
And if it is more akin to Kamen Rider in format, then what even is the point at all? |

Regardless, it sounds like a deliberate nod from Gozyuger to the next series, it's just less clean cut than I first thought. |

In short, lack of Red Rangers raises red flags! |
To me this looks like a localized name for a different country, similar to how the Korean releases of Super Sentai get retitled as Power Rangers (not to be confused with the American Power Rangers)
|
While "Universe Heroes" has a good chance to be the rebranded name, I will hold judgment for now since it could be a placeholder.
