Shout Factory tweeted about it. I'm not sure if that's an indication that Gavan Infinity will be streamed like Zeztz, but I think there's a better chance for it.

At that time IPs weren't as massive as the star power of a celebrity, and many corporations, even domestic ones, were licensing out their IPs to syndication or competitive networks. Now we are knee deep into the 21st century and China is a growing superpower, and Japan is a strong regional power with global soft power. The MCU has completely changed the perspective on IP consolidation (noting the messiness of spreading out IPs to competitors like Hulk to Universal Studios, and Spider-Man to Sony Pictures). The internet has completely changed how international distribution works. Streaming has also created a bubble of IP consolidation and leading to corporations merging to stay afloat. Every other adaptation of a Toei toku property has failed, allowing Toei to consolidate their properties and have greater control over their IPs when trying to market them abroad. The only hold out in this consolidation is Super Sentai. Since Hasbro holds the licensing rights to Power Rangers and permits them to create rangers and teams without using Sentai footage, this puts Toei in a bind because 1) they cannot market Super Sentai to North America even if its a season not yet adapted, and 2) Toei loses necessary funding for their Super Sentai productions from the licensing fees charged to use Sentai footage to adapt it to Power Rangers. Thus not only do they lose a vital market to sell their IP to, they have a reduced budget for Sentai going forward. With Sentai on the decline and losing licensing sales Toei had no choice but to cancel Super Sentai for the time being. While Power Rangers is not the only reason why Super Sentai got put on ice for the time being, it is a factor that cannot be ignored. |
You know, it occurred to me that this new project is probably bad news for new heroines. Sentai always had to inlcude at least one, but Kamen Rider is inconsistent with them and there's no guarantee we'll get any in whatever RED is.

https://news.tokunation.com/wp-conte...Zeztz-Cast.jpg Also, every Rider show during Reiwa had at least one female Rider so far...? Maybe aside from Gavv, I actually don’t know if Jiip counts. Probably not. |

Yeah I know it is just rumors so far, but it sounds likely that Gavan Infinity is going to have a male-female hero duo. So I'm not too worried about female hero representation getting worse due to Project R.E.D., especially given we haven't had two female Sentai team members since Kiramager.
I'm not holding my breath for the possibility of a woman as the protagonist anytime soon though, even if I think it would be nice. The lead role doesn't always get the most focus in these shows anyways, so I'm not sure it matters much beyond the optics of things. |

I'm curious if they're still going to include Mecha fights.

We don't yet know exactly what Project Red is (and it will take at least two or three years to figure it out), but I wouldn't throw away the opportunity Red Poitrine to appear. After all, a new franchise is always time for experimentation. Plus, even if we don't get any heroines, the supporting cast and villains will definitely not leave viewers without memorable women.
|
Welp, as long as we're not getting a red Kikaider, all's well with the world. I mean, by that point, it wouldn't be a hero show, but more of an AI disaster/horror story. :lolol

you know red is my favorite color.

Wait, the white-colored heroine is a mage? That would be cool, I'd love to see an armored hero fighting while another character provides magical support, like the non-rider alchemists in Gotchard or that teaser for the cancelled SFX Fantasy Rayforce
|
I can't remember if it was said here or in the other thread, but yeah supposedly the true reason the marketing for Gavan Infinity explicitly uses language like "completely new 'Gavan'" and "nothing like the other space sheriff series" is cuz Gavan Infinity will actually revolve around Elemental Magic:
Gavan is now red cuz he'll utilize Fire, and will allegedly co-lead alongside a MagiMother designed heroine that is apparently Project R.E.D's version of Poitrine and will use Light. Then characters centered around Water (Blue), Earth (Green), and Darkness (Black) will show up later. So basically Sentai, Metal Heroes, Live action Magical Girls, and probably many other Toku staples all now rolled up into one big Project RED. (At this point, I wouldn't be surprised if the movie/1st episode throws in an ending scene of Gavan and Poitrine(?) nodding at each other before aggressively striking a pose, leaping into the air, and kicking the MotW in the face. |

First Teaser's up: https://x.com/ProjectRED_Toei/status...34404712669466

The suit looks pretty cool in the teaser, I like how they captured the iconic reflective look of the heroes of the Space Sheriff trilogy in a more modern form. Also, judging by all the elemental attacks in the teaser the elemental themed heroes rumor is definitely holding water.

Someone loop the music from this, please. :lolol |
I'm glad Gavan's helmet design is still intact.
|
The helmet and the rest of the suit is indeed slightly different from Gavan and Gavan Type G.

Anyhoos, looking forward to the full suit design. |
Well, it should be stated that this teaser being streamed on the Toei Tokusatsu World YouTube page definitely confirms Toei's plan to simulcast it. Question now is who will pick it up for distribution.
|
I wouldn't be surprised if it was Tokushoutsu.
They did retweet the Toei_PR tweet of the Project Red announcement. |
It makes too much sense since they're streaming Zeztz too.

Some highlights from more of Shirakura's interview with Asahi Shimbun: - Gavan Infinity is a hard reboot and will not be connected to the original Gavan at all, but will carry over the metallic suit design and battles in hyperspace. - Giant robot battles will return, in a similar style to Sentai mecha fights. - Will be a part of a new shared continuity (something else carried over from the Space Sheriff trilogy, though Shirakura doesn't mention this). - Next year's season, which hasn't been ironed out yet, will drift even further from Sentai conventions. - It will be aimed at a similar audience to Kamen Rider. |

One reason that the shift from Super Sentai to Metal Heroes works for me is that giant robots have been a part of some of the shows like Shaider and B-Fighter Kabuto. That said, I hope they bring back the giant ship turns to a huge friggin' cannon fired by a huge friggin' hologram of the hero. If it doesn't make it into Gavan Infinity, then a future show.
|
Well, because Gavan Infinity is using some Super Sentai concepts, like the red protagonist hero, giant mecha and possible other hero members, I feel Super Sentai souls are alive inside the Gavan Infinity series.
|
Red Protagonist + Mage Heroine = live-action Red Ranger from Another World?
|
I just hope it's not too toy drive. Sometimes the toy gimmicks being thrown in your face can be so annoying.
