I agree it sucks that they aren't used in battle. Especially when the battlizer comes into play as well in the second season. |
But Shinkenger is extremely Japanese all the way through (even if it is a little rose tinted and fairy tale like) so it seems weird that the cockpits broke the camels back.

Seeing Kain's issues with Samurai makes me realize just how boned Saban is. It seems everything is a lose-lose situation for them.
>Creates a series with completely new story and different characters >Gets decried at ruining the source material and betraying the Sentai >Creates a series that closely follows the Sentai >Gets decried as unoriginal and just copying the Sentai stories >Creates new costume and entirely new 6th Ranger >Gets complaints that the costume doesn't match the series and isn't used enough (Titanium) >Creates new costumes and uses them on a regular basis >Gets complaints that the costumes are ugly and that not using them in a normal fight scene makes them pointless (Samurai) >Disney gets complaints that it's shifting it's stories too far from the original Sentai's to be watchable >Saban returns and attempts to recapture the classic MMPR >Gets labelled as dick riding the original series I know Saban makes tons of problems and a lot of issues are on them, but man, it seems everything is stacked against them. They literally can't win when it comes to Power Rangers. |
Disney were able to stick very closely to the sentai without watering them down, and they usually shot enough of their own stuff to make the seasons their own anyway. So Saban has no excuse for being so fucking lazy, they produce piss weak versions of the sentai with new modes that are there ONLY to sell toys and add nothing to the shows at all.
That is Saban's problem, laziness, you go back and watch the early Saban stuff where they really tried to make something new, you realise that they really made no attempt to make a cohesive show, using existing footage in a new direction, they just smashed Japanese footage into their American show whether it worked or not and as an adult it's just unwatchable. People also really need to move on from MMPR. |
"Cranberry and Oyster Juice!" also the awfully dubbed "No Way!" deserves a quote as well.
Part 5 was fucking epic! It would have been nice if anything in this episode had build up...like at all, shit just kept happening for no reason but I soon stopped caring about that because MAN the mech stuff in this episode was great. I think this is the first time I've truly, properly, enjoyed Power Rangers mecha action. Plus Jason and Tommy's showdown really was very satisfying visually, it's just a shame that it had no context at all, Tommy was just the new kid in town who Kimberly flirted with once, yet everyone acts like they've gotta save their childhood friend or some shit. It really did make a very satisfying wrap up to an otherwise pretty damn decent arc, and it feels like the perfect place to drop the show. The rushed happy ending at the end was awful though. |

Plus, the new cockpits are just plain and boring. Quote:
hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha Disney's version was the most kid friendly. We can't have ordinary teens fighting evil, they could get hurt. Let's give them SUPER POWERS!!!! |
So are we gonna forget about the assassination plots in SPD?
Or the way the Master died right at the start of Jungle Fury? The apocalyptic setting of RPM? Cole's parents in Wild Force? Nick and Mack's personal storylines? Yeah I thought not, hatred for Disney is dumb, unfounded and logicless. If you prefer Saban's stuff that is your opinion but saying stuff that just flat out isn't true annoys me. |
Just found big bad beetleborgs on Netflix UK so I am watching that and time force on Netflix

Don't remember anything about JF either other than the US actor for Rio getting beaten with the ugly stick. WF was still Saban even though Disney bought them halfway through. Who is Nick and Mack? The assassination plot failed in SPD, so it doesn't matter. |
Quote:
Nick is Mystic Force Red, Mack is Operation Overdrive Red. There are lots of other great examples from SPD, Sky's whole character arc and backstory for example. He was an awesome Ranger. |
Hell, if not for Time Force, I'd say Saban really had no right making Power Rangers (In Space gets rave reviews, but I'm gonna have to rewatch it to see if it holds up, which is after Zeo, which is after Wild Force...Which is taking all my energy to get through...Ugh :S)*
*While I'll defend Turbo, I'm not oblivious to it's issues and I know it's fundamentally flawed. |
I'd agree with you there Matrix, Lightspeed and Time Force are the only seasons that Saban did that are worth a damn. I've also got Turbo in place to watch again at some point as well.
|
Quote:
Turbo isn't a super amazing series, but it holds a special place in my heart and, while it does have a boatload of issues, I think it gets an unfair rep because fan favorites JDF and Bosch were cut from the show. I don't recommend rewatching it and expecting a hidden gem. I recommend rewatching it because many a fan gave their judgment a decade ago and never looked back. |
So it's pretty much how everyone writes off Disney then, basically?

Kinda late to the party, but from what I understand the Mega mode in Samurai, was in part responsibility of Bandai, who at the time was unsure if Shinkenger was gonna get adapted or not, but not wanting to lose one of their most profitable brands made new figures based around Shinkenger designs, but not necesarily representing them.
So even if there was no series adapted they could still release something. Or maybe I'm crazy and nobody ever said that. Quote:

Okay, so I just finished Samurai and where do I go on Netflix to watch Clash of the Red Rangers? It isn't listed under Samurai or Super Samurai.
Quote:
BTW, with me just finishing Samurai, I will say it has easily trumped all of the Disney seasons I listed about that sucked. |

But that's just my opinion. |

What about my feelings on Ryuki? I have none on it as I have never seen it. |
Quote:
Oh yeah, and I found the listing, but that is so stupid. When I typed in Power Rangers, NOTHING came up for it. I had to type in Clash of to get it to come up which is dumb. Now is Super Samurai 20 ro 24 episodes? Netflix only has 20 episodes listed, but the last episode is titled Samurai Forever, so it sounds like that is the final episode. |
Quote:
That said, Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers was still stupid. Yes, times and circumstances were different, but I still have to wonder just how this franchise is still around 20 years later when Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers was so... poor. Quote:

Once it was decided that Shinkenger would be adapted, Bandai did not want to lose all this money they had spent making these "Mega Mode" toys, so Saban had to find a way to include the "Mega Mode" in the show in order to advertise the toys that were being made. I'm pretty sure that's why none of the Wave 1 Samurai toys had anything but the "Mega Mode". Quote:

http://powerrangers.wikia.com/wiki/PLEX "As PLEX continued to develop elements in Sentai properties, they also continued to assist in the adaptations to Power Rangers. PLEX designed the Spirit Rangers for Jungle Fury, as well as the Mega Mode for Power Rangers Samurai. The Mega Mode was an opportunity for additional 'ranger forms' in toy form, as footage for the cockpits in Shinkenger were deemed replaceable. At Pacific Media Expo in 2011, Tsuyoshi Nonaka, one of PLEX's lead designers explained that the Mega Mode's design was usually reserved for Kamen Riders, and was inspired by Saban's own designs for Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie." |

Anyway, like I said, it was more because it was something completely unique and blew me away. Even my dad would watch it with me because he enjoyed it (same goes for Gargoyles and Batman). Sure, these days it is cheesy, but there is still something to be enjoyed there even when you take off the nostalgia goggles. Quote:

I'm not really sure how an ALIEN ARTIFACT temporarily stopping the Earth's rotation to reverse time is insulting a kid's intelligence. You think kids aren't stupid, but they aren't clever enough to suspend their disbelief in a show about costumed superheroes and giant robots?
It's not like Lost Galaxy where you can apparently survive in space without any sort of protection. |
Lost Galaxy sucked in general though, they made no attempt to make Ginga fit with the new setting at all. The acting was atrocious and Terra Venture was about as convincing a space station as my house is.
LOVED it as a kid though, so there is clearly a pattern here. |

Actually, gravity is the natural attraction between two bodies of matter. Earth's size is what gives it its larger gravitational force. The fact that the Earth rotates is just a result of the conservation of angular momentum of the particles that formed Earth in the vacuum of space. In fact, gravity is what created the Earth—the gravitational attraction between particles caused them to form together into a planet. If the Earth were to stop rotating, I think the inhabitants of Earth would feel it, considering the speed of Earth's rotation.
