A friend talking about Mebius is what reignited my fandom of the franchise. Great was the first Ultra I was ever exposed to.

I've always been confused about the number of Ultra "seasons," with knowing Retsuden's in the mix and other countries having productions. I clicked through each season on an Ultra wiki, seeing what at least looked like "standard" Japanese Ultra seasons, and my count came to the same total as Wikpedia: 24. Does this sound right to those with more Ultra knowledge?

This could, of course, place the 25th season during the 50th anniversary, which is pretty cool.

There are a lot of spin-offs, limited availability, and miniseries that are part of the Ultraman series. I imagine that the exact number of shows at this point likely depends on who you ask.

Personally, I count the long running, standard broadcast shows as the "main" ones and the rest as spin-offs or side projects. That's just me, though, and I'm still a relatively new fan.

Yeah, certainly seems there'd be a bit of subjectivity built up around that. Unless I learn something that changes my mind, I guess that's the numbering I'm going with.

Just watched episode 8 of Gaia. I've seen a lot of dubious scientists in tokusatsu, but I think the paleontologist in this episode may be the stupidest: convinced that the monster is a "ghost of a lifeform that Earth abandoned in a mass extinction" she almost gets eaten when she tries to reason with it emotionally. Yeesh.

On a related note, I'm not thrilled with the subs Crunchyroll is using. The last couple episodes have been riddled with spelling errors and awkard translations. They're almost reading like HKs in places.

Spacium Zeperium is his default form like Cosmos Luna Mode. He also has a Thunder Breaster Form that's a combination of Zoffy & Ginga.

Have they shown the Thunder Breaster Form? That sounds amazing. I can't wait to see other combinations.

The final episode of Shin Ultraman Retsuden is worth watching. It's a fun send off.

Next week is a preview for Orb? That seems a lot like a Retsuden thing to me but hey... :V

I recently finished watching the original Ultraman, and I’m now making my way through Ultraman Leo. I’m up to the Ultra Horror arc.

Though I like Hayata♡ as a character better, I do admire Ohtori.

I'm really happy that Crunchyroll has a lot of Ultraman shows on there.

Crunchyroll confirms Ultraman Orb. Someone who works in the brands department also commented that the demand for Orb was so high that even just half of those people watching would make it their number 1 show. Be good to spread the word.

UltraMan Orb Episode 1: This was an awesome first episode. Gai just has this aura to him that's great he reminds me of Akira from ToQGer mixed with I want to say Superman. He just has this great superhero feeling to him. Also he's a bit weird in a good way with some of the things he did. I love the SSP it reminds me of Kamen Rider Drive merged with Kamen Rider Ghost lol. The three of them are kooky and fun. The smart one reminds me of Sheldon from the Big Bang Theory. I am intrigued with the dark mysterious guy with the evil version of Orb's morpher. The fighting was awesome and I loved that Orb used some of the original UltraMan's moves. Very solid start for this show and can't wait to see more of the crazy stuff Gai does.

The first episode of Orb was decent. The "Something Search People" (what a terrible name) seem to be a likeable bunch, even though I fear they will get annoying really fast. Comedy was on point so far though; I hope it stays that way. Gai is a cool protagonist and they do set up some depth to his character right away which interests me. By far the biggest surprise to me is that there’s a Dark Ultraman in the show, I really like that and it does seem like the character will play a bigger role.

Action-wise the episode was okay but not great. The suits look gorgeous and the effects are good but the fight wasn’t all that great IMO. But it’s just a first episode; it’ll get better in time.

The gimmick is neat, I’m not a huge fan of fusion but it’s done right here. Also, no more Spark Dolls, thank god. I always hated these as gimmicks, way too childish. As merchandise I can appreciate them, but having characters in the show use them to transform and stuff… nah.

I like the card gimmick! I collect Yu-Gi-Oh! cards and many of the cards are Fusion-Types. Including my forum's Card Of The Week, which looks like an Ultraman.

Do you guys think the Ultraman manga will ever get a anime adaption?

I still have to finish reading the first one.

At some point, maybe even in between live action seasons, but I think it'll be a while before we get one. The Ultraman manga runs at a pretty fast pace and is a monthly thing, so they would run out of material pretty fast. Like, you could probably do 13 episodes from the first five volumes.

But it would be cool to get a second Ultraman anime that isn't a chibi thing.

(though for those interested, Tsuburaya is releasing fully voiced motion comics of the manga on their youtube channel)

I can see the Ultraman Manga being a late night anime TV series or a OVA series since the manga feels like it was made for a older audience in mind. My studio choices for a anime adaption would be Sunrise or Madhouse.

Could definitely see Sunrise on it - they animated the 1979 Ultraman anime as well. Though, personally, I'd love it if Bones could do the show.

Is Nexus worth watching and if so what about the prequel movie?

I haven't watched the whole prequel movie. But it looks awesome! And yes about Nexus. I haven't finished it. But it's awesome! If you saw Ginga & X, you saw the ultras fight two monsters Nexus has fought in them.

If you can't find it, the movie isn't super vital, but it will fill in some holes later on in the show.

It's definitely worth watching though. One of the best tokusatsu shows ever.

(people say it's so radically unlike most Ultraman shows that it's a bad first entry, but a friend of mine who is a huge Ultraman and Kaijuu guy now first got into the genre through Nexus)

Yeah, Nexus is a good show. It's very different than the standard Ultra series, but it's still interesting and engaging. The movie is worth a watch, too, even if it isn't really referenced much in Nexus proper.

Ultraman Nexus is rad and is definitely worth watching. I haven't seen the movie though.

The movie is definitely worth a look subbed. TV-Nihon subbed it, and you can still download that, as Crunchyroll didn't license that.

You can watch Nexus without it, as it's not heavily referenced aside from why a certain group of people exist in the show.

Nexus is awesome anyway. Probably my favourite Ultra show out of the ones I've seen.

Nexus is one of my favorite Ultras. I sometimes do his Over-Ray Storm movements for fun.
