These keep getting weirder, but they are awesome at the same time.

a wolf eye, a whale eye, a shark eye, a motorcycle handle eye,....glad people are liking the costumes. I think they look ridiculous.

I still pretty much only like Rabbit-Tank,..and Cross-Z and (now) Grease.

I'd 100% like Blood Stalk but the unicorn horn bugs me. So I guess I like it like 95%.

Oh well, they don't make the costumes to please me. I think 99% of the Build costumes are goofy as hell.

Gaim was goofy, Ex-Aid was goofy, Build is goofy. I guess goofy is the new thing.

Gaim and Build are fine (especially considering the motifs for both of them). Ex-Aid's suits were atrocious.

Ex-Aid suits I thought were fine. What did you not like about them? Genuinely curious. I agree it is not the suits to end all suits but I thought the eyes and the color palette worked despite being unusual.

Ex-Aid's suits were consistently ridiculous but looked kind of nice if you judged them based on their own look rather than compared to more typical Rider suits. Build's are a bit weird because they're not all that strange but some of them get there.

Everything about them is terrible. Gaudy Nerf gun colors, cartoon eyes, add-ons that look like kindergarteners' costumes, overly toyish weapons... The list goes on. The irony is that having a video game motif gave them a chance to have some really cool costumes. Brave could've been modeled off something from Dragon's Dogma or Assassin's Creed; Snipe from Metal Gear Solid; Ex-Aid's Level 5 an intimidating dragon; all crossed with some form of arthropod to keep the "bug eyes" look. Such a wasted opportunity.

But
Ex-Aid was based off of CLASSIC video games. Hell, Brave's major upgrades are references to Final Fantasy 4
EDIT: I DO see why people wouldn't like the suits, Ex-Aid's colours are fucking ugly together, but I feel that you're forgetting it's a Japanese kid show. It's ok to dislike the suits though

Classic video game characters looked better than that, at least in their artwork if not in the game itself. If that was the best they could do based off so-called classic games, they probably should've done something else. The gashats on their own are enough of a homage to the old games.

I really hate this statement. It's nothing but a shutdown of a discussion, plus a little condescending (It's a kids' show so it's ok if ABCXYZ is done). If it's just a kids' show and our views don't matter, why are you watching and why are we talking about it? Do something more productive.

You wanted stuff based off of Assassin's Creed, kids in Japan wouldn't really know that. It's a kid's show because that means they need to keep it kid friendly, and Ex-Aid designs are pretty anime-esque instead of buggy, which I'm sure went well with kids. Especially considering Ex-Aid did really well

It's a question of "we have to see it from someone else's point of view".
Which is difficult to do for anyone.
You're not the targeted audience, so your edgier wants won't be satisfied in any case.

When you compare that to what 10yo have now like Super Ninja Steel, I feel like Ex-Aid is the 10yo dream.

To agree with Annuga here, you must also remember the cultural differences. In the West, it tends to be sexual innuendo that will damage a kids show (pick any anime edited for syndication and a good 50% at least will be editing the appearances of female characters)...yet they’re aimed at the same demographic.
Shows that suffer from this, like Yu-Gi-Oh! and Digimon are aimed at young boys here in the west...and young boys in the east. Same demographic, different standards.

It’s the same with violence. Sure, you get people up in arms over young boys being exposed to gritty, realistic, dark video games, like Deus Ex, Destiny, Assassin’s Creed, etc...but it doesn’t change anything. They’re still there and in the public eye.
In Japan? That kind of video game would have a 18 rating, and kept as far away from kids as possible, perhaps even censored. There is no way a kid in Japan would know - or realistically care - about such a game. They’d much rather buy a toy of something obviously based on the types of games they know and like - like Kirby, Sonic, or the quintessential JRPG - and Kamen Rider exists to sell toys to those kids. Snipe was their reference to American games - outside of hardcore western gaming otaku, western games are usually perceived as overly gritty and bloody...basically charicatires of Call of Duty.

I mean, I get what you mean by saying that the ‘its Just a kids show’ isn’t a defence in light of the likes of Gaim...but come on, man, you have to be realistic with what you want/expect. My best friend would love an openly-gay main rider, but that’s not happening any time soon. Nor is a female main or second rider. Expecting a Kamen Rider - which is still a Japanese kids show hero, regardless of whether or not that is a good excuse to end the discussion with - to be made to American standards, or like Garo - which doesn’t exist to sell toys and is for Japanese adults - is pointless and you have to expect to be simply dismissed if you insist on focusing on such lofty, impossible goals.

I only put out Assassin's Creed as an example of video game motifs (in this case for Brave as he's fantasy-based) that would've looked much better than the nonsense we got, not that I literally wanted that. The Ex-Aid Riders as they are would probably fit in perfectly in something like Kamen Rider SD, which caricatured Showa Riders' designs. But they're awful as a "real" look.

It has nothing to do with "edginess" (I'd only wish Rider went back to the grit of Kuuga-Hibiki). It has to do with aesthetics. Gaim took a concept that on paper looked absurd and made it look cool. Ex-Aid was the exact opposite.

What’s ‘cool’ is subjective. I personally do thing the Ex-Aid suits are cool. In particular, I adore all of the Level 2 suits, as well as Zombie, Fantasy/Legacy, Muteki, etc...
Point is, again, Ex-Aid’s aesthetics worked for he target audience - and for some westerners.

Did Ex-Aid’s suits suck? To you, yes, but that isn’t an objective fact. I don’t think so, and clearly I’m not alone. Thinking they suck is fine...but claiming they suck objectively and that they wasted an opportunity is blatantly untrue.

Bandai and Toei could have made grittier deigns, yes. But would they have sold as well? Who knows, maybe they would have.
But the designs they did do sold amazingly, so clearly, they made the right decision for the success of the franchise.

Ex-Aid wowed me and made me wish the games in our world did the same thing.

A friend of mine, who's never seen nor heard of Kamen Rider, saw the Ex-Aid and loved it. He saw the image from the latest fighting game and asked "so how does it look in the live show?" (Because I explained to him what it was.) And I told him that what he saw was what he got. He absolutely loved it. He liked all the suits actually. Lol!!!

Do I have to explicitly say "in my opinion"? Isn't it obvious that almost anything anyone says here is an opinion?

When it comes to "game Riders", I'll stick with Ryuki as far as costumes are concerned.

I know they are a homage to Kick and Punch Hopper but when combined I see Kamen Rider Birth

Birth was also double rider'd with Proto Birth appearing so I can see that being hinted if not subtly at least.

Hazard forms look epic, I'm curious about how they'll work with the Bottle Change gimmick figures. It would be cool to have swapable eyes to represent different Best Matches being used, but my guess is that we'll just get the RabbitTank version that may or may not be compatible with others in the line.

I love Rogue's design, the colors are gorgeous and the suit's look is a nice mix of regal and menacing. The Nebula Gun is okay, the colors are a little gaudy especially combined with the sword, but I'm sure they'll grow on me.

I don't like the Kaiser Bros designs. At all. Those gears just look bulky, heavy and generally unwieldy, with the normal forms looking especially unbalanced. Plus, simply mirroring the design is kind of lazy, I know it's because they're brothers but I wish there was something to make the Engine one look engine-y and the Remocon one look remote-control-y. The combining thing is cool in theory, but in practice it just looks like an uglier version of what Patoranger is going to do.

TurtleWatch Best Match

Seems like this best match has Time Travel abilities... which could be a problem for Build's story although the writing has been top notch so far so if anyone could do time travel well then it might be this one.

Please no. Time travel is such a hard thing to get right. If Build's able to slow down or stop time with it that'd be better

TurtleWatch must have the ability to control time: freeze, pause, rewind & fast-forward. Even based on a turtle, slowdown time.

Turtle probably gives him pretty good defensive capabilities while Watch likely speeds up time so he's not slowed down by the turtle half. Fast defensive form would work well.
