Dragon Knight did poorly on TV with the bad timeslots and poor marketing as other people said already. It's also divisive with fans, you either like it or hate it depending on who you ask.

:) Actually the RX series was just recycling the old concept of having a group of Kaijin follow certain traits depending on who their leader or "chief" is. In the first Kamen Rider series,once Black Shogun took control, the Kaijin were no more made of one type of Kaijin but a mix of two animals. In Kamen Rider v3,Doctor G's Kaijins were a mix of a mechanical object and an animal. Baron Fang had prehistoric(or was it mythical?)Kaijin,Marshall Armor had animals with hard shells while Archbishop Wing's Kaijin were animals with wings.

In the case of Kamen Rider Black RX, each of the four leaders(generals?) had their own different monster that they were in charge of,Maribaron with the supernatural monsters,Gedorian with his alien beast lifeforms etc . Only difference now(in RX) is instead of letting one general die and then the next one take over like in Kamen Rider and Kamen Rider V3,all the generals were alive all at once and took turns to send in a different monster.

Yeah, it’s very reminiscent of Metalder, both in concept and in the fact that they had Keita Amemiya doing the monster designs.

Yeah, rather just see a particular show get subbed than adapted. It becomes weirder when the adapted show decides to take story elements from the original show and put it in theirs.

I'm currently watching Dragon Knight myself and I'm already very invested in the show's story and the action scenes are a very nice mixture of pre-existing Ryuki footage and the ones made exclusively for the US.

I loved Dragon Knight but the idea of American adaptions in this day and age is absolutely fucking stupid. It's pointless. I do kind of like where Power Rangers is at, though.

Sub the source material and you'll draw in new fans without worrying about dividing the fanbase even further. It's literally that simple.

At the end of the day, it's a kids show. So adapting it makes perfect sense. Especially considering watching a show with subs is something some kids might have difficulty doing due to being too young to read at the pace some subs might go, or just poor reading skills in general.

Releasing subs won't attract nearly as many new viewers as one may think.

That's why I think dubs just for a mainstream normal TV time slot would be a good compromise, and people who want to see the subtitles can then seek them out. Dubs are not necessarily aimed at the same audience as subs so they're not really competing, at least it doesn't affect the actual story or characters itself and at least for outside the US it would be good to have a ''South Korea'' approach where some years you get the PR and some years the Sentai etc.

I do however acknowledge that in practice Power Rangers is better than the Sentai in some cases, as for any non-PR toku adaptations though KRDK wasn't that great and it is only VR Troopers that I can see myself really wanting to sit and complete now (sorry)!

In Indonesia, there is a television station that regularly broadcasts Kamen Rider Dub (and creates a YouTube channel for the series that has ended broadcast on TV). I believe it works well. Last I saw, they had listed several episodes of Zero One already. it's just that they don't show the series in order. as far as i know, they had exaid, build, black, ziO, then gaim and now, W is on television. no big deal, except maybe for the kids watching ziO, maybe they will be confused with the previous riders.

Yup RTV, and I'm currently watching W there too (while doing responseless write-ups...). There's repeat airing like Ex-Aid (they should prioritize W IMO, they had schedule change that gives Ex-Aid more airings) and Zi-O. The airings would still include usual censorship that the TV stations had though... including Mai slapping Micchy ._.

Yeah, I mean, when you put it like that, Ghost is definitely up there with Kuuga as one of the all-time classics, right alongside Wizard! :p

The thing about Grongi is that it's actually pretty simple, which is what I love about iit, but I've never felt quite nerdy enough to commit any of it to memory, which is how I know I'm not actually the biggest Kuuga fan out there.

When I was going through all that behind-the-scenes type stuff prior to making my thread, there was a little panel with a bunch of the Grongi actors to promote the Blu-ray release of the show, and they could still remember some of their lines phonetically, which impressed me. Some people in the audience could also translate those lines back into Japanese on the spot, which impressed me, AND the actors.

I like how so far all the Reiwa series are using the classic Shocker trooper design and adapting it for each season's aesthetic.

Just a trivia, I forgot to write this before, but there seems to be a very coincidental yet appropriate stuff in W; between 2 men who love Fuuto; Shotaro Hidari and Kirihiko Sudo. Shotaro's last name Hidari means 'left' (as W's left side), and in Indonesia, 'left' means 'kiri', which is also the first 4 letters of Kirihiko's name. They unknowingly have already made other similarity between them other than loving Fuuto.

So after posting something about how Kamen Rider X and Ultraman X have similarities in the Obvious Realization thread, I discovered that Kamen Rider X in the TV and Manga differ a bit. So here's my question to you all. Which version of Kamen Rider X do you think is better and should have one of the two been the universal rendition of it?

The TV version does give it a more grounded look but the manga version personally does help the costume feel less dull and gives it that Showa toku hero flair in my opinion thanks to the addition of more color.

Tv version for me. Way too many colors happening in the manga colors.

I do wonder now, what if the manga color scheme was used as a way of differentiating regular X and maybe a temporary power-up version of X much like how Stronger differs when he has his temp power-up.

Maybe red boots alone (or red boots and gloves) would have worked, but the manga version as a whole? A bit cluttered!

It includes Vulcan and Valkyrie in there too, and even extends to their new upcoming V-Cin forms. However, while Valkyrie’s Justice Serval is considered her final form and endpoint in the vital brace... Rampage Gatling is considered Vulcan’s final form and endpoint, with Lone Wolf being a little earlier alongside Assault Wolf. Perhaps this say something about the type of form Lone Wolf will play? Either way it's interesting to me that Rampage Gatling seems to still be considered 'the' official final form for Fuwa. Which is just how I like it! :p

I've been looking at the upcoming FRS over and over and wanting it more and more and it's making me appreciate just how cool it is. The colour scheme and the way the pectoral plates fold back, and how it is physically the exact same as the base form except with a new watch... that's just really neat??
