Just finished Girls In Trouble, and GoKaiger versus Gavan. Both are equally enjoyable in their own fanservicy goodness.
|
Just finished Changeman. It had some really cool ideas but it kinda suffers from the Showa Sentai symptom of having every episode end with a mech battle (dunno if that's the case with Turboranger and Fiveman as well).
Also, why did GUIS decide to sub only the first 10 episodes of Ghangeman, Flashman and Fiveman each? I kinda think that Flashman's premise sounds cool enough and I'd like to watch that one if it wasn't for lack of subs. |

I wish I can tell you that we are coming back but I can't. I don't know what our status is. Never say never, I guess? |

btw, has anyone an idea about the quality of the scrubs for Battle Fever and Goggle-V? |
Battle Fever J and Goggle V have subs?

Here they are! Took me a bit a digging but I found the site. The last update at the time of this post was in mid August. The subber's actually further along then I thought he was... |
I just finished Dairanger, and once again I will be changing what my favorite Sentai is! It was good fun, I liked the Chinese stylings to it, and the cast was very entertaining. I was particularly pleased to have my first Red that I had more than a lukewarm reception to, Ryo was a cool guy! Not to say it was all perfect. Kou was awful at first, and only became tolerable later by merit of not doing all that much, and I would have liked to see more Daigo episodes that weren't Kujaku focused, among other little issues. I feel that I have to give a shout out to that last episode for being almost as bizarre as Kiva's ending, although obviously not as horrible. Them randomly fast forwarding 50 years so we can see the exploits of their clone grandchildren fighting the randomly revived Gorma is one of those things that makes you wonder who thought it was a good idea.
I should probably stop watching so much toku, I've been doing a lot lately, haha. I'll probably do the Dai movie and then KR Stronger at some indeterminate point in the future. Maybe tomorrow, maybe several months from now. The future is as mysterious as Dairanger's ending! |
Decided I couldn't watch two Showa sentai shows in a row, as they all suffer from the same problem of shoving mech battles in almost every single episodes.
Thus I started watching Megaranger and I'm through the first 6 episodes. So far I really like it and I think it's "teenagers with attitude" done right. However, I can't tell if it's overall better or weaker than PRiS... Guess I'll have to dig into more episodes. |
Finished Megaranger last week and it already managed to be my 2nd favourite Sentai (only second to Dairanger). I kinda liked the whole team but MegaSilver really stood out as an exceptional 6th ranger. I'd put it on par with PRiS as both shows have their own strengths and memorable events (e.g. that one in Space episode where Zhane dates Astronema).
Currently watching Ohranger but I set my expectation pretty low for that one. The problem with this show is that it can't decide whether it wants to be drama, comedy or softcore porn (even though I like the OhYellow swimsuit episode). My favourite so far is the one where a scrap monster tries to exact his revenge on Bacchushund. |
The scrap monster was a good episode. Wait until you get to episode 32. That one is fantastic and an oddball episode because there is no mech battle and the royal family don't even show up in the episode.
|
I watched episodes 31-34 of Dynaman today. Episode 33 was really damn good and 34 has now brought in a new type of MotW, which had an impressive debut.
On the other hand, episode 32 is the first episode in the series that I felt was a big miss. The whole thing was just a mess as the plot was all over the place and things didn't make any bit of sense. |
Not so much what I'm watching, but what I want to watch. It has been a while since I watched a Sentai, so I think I'm gonna pick up either Dairanger or Kakuranger once I finish Kiva. Can't decide which one though. Kakuranger seems a bit more adventurous in nature, and I like the fact that the monsters are yokai, but Dairanger has some of my favorite suits and mech designs, plus the clips I've seen have absolutely fantastic fight choreography. Help me decide?

In any case, I'd recommend Kakuranger over Dairanger. Dairanger's pretty good so far but Kakuranger is more or less my idea of the perfect Sentai. A comedic adventure show about a group of heroes bonding with one another and getting into wild hijinks along the way. Its not my favorite Sentai but its pretty high up there. |

You can't go wrong with either series as they are both my top two favorite Sentai shows. I'd say go with Dairanger first since it came first, but ultimately, it doesn't matter, you are going to watching the best of the best. Oh, while Dairanger is more serious, it still does have goofiness to it. It is Sentai after all. The difference is that Dairanger is able to balance its comedic moments with its serious ones, something the shows of today seemed to fail at.

What makes it even more interesting to me is that Kamen Rider disappeared in the 90s, so it essentially ended, let Sentai and Metal Heroes do all this experimenting, and then come back and take influence from those ideas.

edit: Whoops, put this in the wrong thread xD
|
Finally i have time to watch liveman 22-23

Normally I like to ask questions and give more personalized recommendations, but Gekiranger exists, and anyone who hasn't seen it yet should just drop whatever else they're doing to fix that. :p

I really want to watch Geki again, but I've been holding out in hopes that someone is going to give us subs that use respectable video quality. The TV rips are just horrid. |
what about shinkenger? is it worth to watch?

Sometimes I think I make Shinkenger sound worse than it is. It's a pretty good show, especially if you are new to Sentai. It does have a strong ranger cast, the music is quite good, and the fight choreography is more often than not, outstanding. It's just that the main villains don't do very much and the show relies too much on mecha and CGI. ALso, some things that happen in the last 8 episodes of the show should have been done sooner.
|
Currently watching Kyoryuger's 12th episode. I already dislike how Daigo apparently becomes the only ranger who matters because goddamn do I love these rangers! Utchy's antics are adorable yet funny, Nobuharu reminds me of Ryoga from Abaranger only if he kept spouting bad puns, Ian is Gai but without me wanting to kick his teeth in, Amy is Kaori but instead of being a spoiled bitch who can't do anything she's likeable! Daigo and Boy aren't too memorable/don't stand out, but they're fine so far

@Topic: Just finished Ohranger the other day and yeah, still feeling rather ambivalent about it. Had some strong episodes (15, 23, 32) but also lame stuff (12, 36). Ending was decent enough, though. Currently sitting through Maskman and finished first 9 episodes. So far it's pretty solid but not quite outstanding. |

Watching Dairanger afterwards was quite a relief, to be quite honest, mostly thanks to their gorgeous fights and likeable cast (I even kinda liked Kou who imo is a way better lover than Gai ever was :^)). |

Well I'm currently going through the Power Rangers Mystic Force boxset at home. Every couple of weeks me and a friend get together and are marathoning Zyuranger off Shout Factory's site. We stopped and sampled some of Dairanger, Kakuranger and Ohranger. After we finish Zyuranger we're thinking about trying Ohranger because we just find the Baronia Empire's affects interesting. It's like discount Cybermen for the mooks, and something just makes me think of third Doctor era Doctor Who for some reason.
