Ippo 10.
Time for Ippo's debut match!...Against some massive asshat. I will say that I love the way this episode was paced, focusing just as much on Ippo's opponent as Ippo himself. It brings so much more to the conflict, when we know the opponents motivations, personality and all the things they did in preparation before coming here. The only weird part to this, is just like in the fateful sparring match against Miyata, we end up having more investment in the opponent than the protagonist. Ippo is only really there because he enjoys it, there is nothing wrong with that, but both Miyata and Oda bring so much more with them, that makes us want them to have the victory instead. And we should never be routing for the villain, not properly anyway. Just a shame their fight starts next episode and I have to go bed now! |
Holy crap. Fairy Tail is getting better! ERZA! She is kicking ass, and I cant wait to see the next part and the end of this arc!

Ippo's debut match! And it's...surprisingly uninteresting. Ippo and Oda basically have the same fighting style, so it becomes a test of endurance, which is interesting on paper but less so visually. I guess it got more interesting when Ippo got injured and had to defend one side of himself, but Oda was so weak he was never really able to make the most of that. At least Oda got his happy ending, even though he lost. |
