My thoughts on episode 6 of Ultra Galaxy Fight.

The next Ultraman show is to be named Trigger according to them leaks.
My guess is this Ultraman is related to Tregear or Tiga. The latter being more likely since they seem to be pushing Tiga in a lot of things for a while now. Also, hypothetically that this Ultraman uses a gun, would this be the first Ultraman to make use of a gun as their primary weapon? I don't quite recall any Ultramen using firearms as their primary weapons. |
Guns are pretty rare in Ultraman. Everyone's got beam attacks anyway. The first thing that comes to mind is the Victory Lancer, but I don't think he ever used gun mode in Ultra form. He did also use the King Joe Launcher, but that's certainly not 'primary'.
If you're willing to go super deep, Dr E.G. has the E.G. scanner, which I guess counts. |
So at the same time as kamen rider sword, we have ultraman gun.

And I already have visions of Luna-Trigger from Kamen Rider W when reading that leak!
I'd rather see an Ultra hold a blaster as opposed to something that looks like a legitimate revolver or rifle. Since such things don't seem to be the norm, I feel the urge to speculate off hand here: * It could be a rogue Ultra who became an intergalactic gunman; a Western-ish type who will either help those on his own terms or when someone has something to offer in return. A precipitating incident may set him back on the path to rejoining the Land of Light by helping Earth, however. I could also shorten this as more in the vein of "Ultraman-Meets-Mandalorian"! * That's my spitball based on nothing but the theoretical name. Be awhile before we see if it has merit. |

No you people, don't you see?!
It's time to bring back the signature style of Ultraman Great! FINGER GUNS! |
Ultraman with a gun you say?

So, sorry if I'm sidetracking the conversation here, but if I wanted to start watching Ultraman, which seasons would be good to start with.

X is a favourite of mine, and it's one I would definitely recommend. At about 22 episodes long it's a fantastic look not just at the standard set-up of Ultraman shows but also how it's evolved and what morals have become core to the franchise in its 50 year history. Also doesn't hurt that it's got some really sick crossovers!
Another that's often recommended - and what I started with - is Orb, the 50th anniversary show (and the one after X). At about 25 episodes it's a slightly less standard, much weirder show that nevertheless is a great time and one I'm pretty in love with. Something really nice is that all the New Gen shows - all the stuff after the Zero movies - are 25 episodes long at most, so even if you're not digging something it's much easier to give it a watch and see what you think compared to the large 50-something episode commitment of most Toku shows. Most Ultra shows before the Zero movies were about 50 episodes themselves, though there's also notable exceptions such as Max and the OG Ultraman being 39 episodes. And then there's Ginga, which is 12! Basically, you've got a lot of short options if you want to quickly sample what the franchise has to offer. |
