Well, that was... good. it's probably been the weakest of the series so far, and it's really struggling to play a "You can't change history" line when 50% of Doctor Who relies on the fact that you can, but I digress. Although my hatred for Clara is slowly being re-awakened, and I don't like that. I thought I had grown to love her...
But anyway, good aspects :) The Fisher King is awesomely creepy, and really benefits from being a suit. Cass and Lunn continued to be cool together. The Electric Guitar opening theme. And Peter Capaldi's acting. That just deserves a credit every episode. Opinions? |

Decent-ish episode. Plot was mostly pants but all the time travel logic made it more worthwhile. Didn't care about any of the relationship stuff between the extended cast because none of them were remotely interesting to begin with.
Fisher King looked great, and having Corey Taylor doing the scream was pretty awesome. He's a great guy so its awesome to find out he's a big Who fan. The whole section of the ghost dragging the axe down the corridor (stupid rant but it bugs me how the ghosts can both walk through walls AND pick up objects :lol) was cool, but I can see people saying that was pushing it a bit. |
I really liked the conclusion. I thought it was pretty cool how it went from the base under siege story and became more of a horror mystery for the second part. I also really liked the use of time travel; it's surprisingly rare that we see Doctor Who engaging with multiple time zones like this. All the paradox stuff was really fun, too. The only thing I didn't like was O'Donell dying. I liked her. She was like a less twee Osgood.

Man, this season is just amazing thus far. First we got a nice look into Devros and learning more about him as a character and now we had a kick ass ghost story. That was fantastic. I loved it. This is easily my favorite episode (well episodes) since Listen. I can't wait to see what the rest of the season has in store.

They are all Viking Dudes! (Seriously, just me reminded of the first episode?)
I really liked this episode. The Doctor trying not be become the thing he tries not to be, but it being the only way to save them (possibly). The different vikings, including Lofty. Especially Lofty. The episode really benefits from the TARDIS and Sonic being gone, and the solution at the end is a nice solution. And the Fires of Pompei callback. Best part of the episode. Easily. Now that I'm done gushing, anyone else have an opinion? |
I ♡ the callback to The Fires of Pompeii.

It was another episode that largely worked as set up, but pulled it off well but also being mostly self-contained. It wasn't too serious, had some fun moments and did some nice character building for the Doctor. Can't ask for much more than that really.
The Capaldi callback was really nice. Not especially groundbreaking, but done in a way that it felt relevant. I liked it. Very interested to see how next week plays out. I really like the idea of a 2-parter that's actually 2 stories with two different co-writers. |
