That's akin to naming the Gamecube Pokemon games "XD: A tale from the Pokemon Universe" just because it's not using the same past protagonists.
Metroid is the name of a franchise and a singular species from the games, not the protagonist. So Samus can be completely absent and the games can still fit in the timeline.

If this had been in the 90s, fine, but Metroid is nearly 30 years old and always has been about Samus. You can't just decide to change that now.

However, I could deal with that, it is the horrible chibi style that is where the main issue comes from.

There was no Metroid on N64 either and that gave Nintendo enough time to figure out how to do a new one and give us a brilliant game with Metroid Prime on Gamecube.

With this E3 Nintendo pretty much already showed that the WiiU as a platform is probably not something they are going to invest any further. They are now focusing all of their resources on the NX. Waiting a year or two longer for a new proper Metroid wont kill you and it feels like your just bitching for bitchings sake at this point.

On an unrelated note I saw a hands on with Sonys new Project Morpheus and damn this looks like tons of fun to play around with.
