You do know they fully remastered Alien as well, right?
And Alien is not barebones unless you bought the barebones version. Mine has all of the bonus features from the DVDs. Nevertheless, I cannot wait for the 4K master to come out on BD. I saw that version in theaters last year and my god it was freaking amazing. |

http://bluray.highdefdigest.com/2447/alienquad.html http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Alien-...y/5090/#Review http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/46163/alien-anthology/ Speaking of Alien, I borrowed from one of my friends a book called Alien Vault. It is about the making of Alien and it is quite awesome so far. It's talked about different things that O'Bannon had to go through to even get the movie made. Also, did you know that the people in the space suit during the Space Jockey scene were actually Scott's kids and not the actors? That is something that you never see done today because they can just CGI everything. Oh, and there was supposed to be a pyramid scene that sounds pretty damn awesome. |
I wasn't talking about the Anthology, I was talking about the stand alone Alien release. The Anthology is overpriced considering I'd never watch three and four as they're shit.
Moving on from that though, I watched Edge of Tomorrow yesterday: One of the boldest moves in Edge of Tomorrow is to play the two lead actors completely against their type. I'd never have expected Tom Cruise to play a character who is so very unflattering for his onscreen persona like Cage, who is an unlikeable douchebag for most of the movie but it works very very well. The big reason it works so well, is rather than starting as an infallible badass, Edge of Tomorrow makes Cruise work for it. For most of the movie Cage is flawed, vulnerable and most importantly...human and it isn't until the big climactic moments that Cruise really gets to wear more familiar clothes and kick ass. This is probably one of my most favourite characters Tom Cruise has played. Despite this though, it's Emily Blunt who completely steals the show for me. Maybe it's just my lack of information on her body of work, but I'd never have expected Blunt to play a real life version of Sergeant Calhoun so that was half the fun for me, she was awesome! It's just a shame about the unnecessarily soppy hints at a romance at the end, especially considering the two lead actors have so little chemistry. One of the most problematic aspects of the movie for me though is that it feels like Edge of Tomorrow never quite knows who it is, or who it wants to be. Most of the action set pieces in this movie play out like a live action video game, full of novelties, gimmicks and explosions but that is only half the movie. This film is transfixed on death, and the vulnerability of humanity, and in a narrative like this where it has an in story reset button, no one is safe. People die in this, brutally and over and over again and this dark undercurrent is jarring in what is an otherwise pretty light and funny little action romp. The film never seems to actively pursue its own personal identity either, with the film ending as conflicted and muddled tonally as it is from the beginning. It's pretty underwritten overall, honestly, as you kind of realise how little you actually know by the end compared to when you went in. Overall Edge of Tomorrow is a good movie but I can't help but feel like critics have oversold it a tad. If you go in expecting the next great piece of science fiction you'll be disappointed, but if you're looking for a good time and have already ticked off the likes of Godzilla and Days of Future Past you can do a lot worse than this slightly more cerebral take on the summer blockbuster. |
It is the same disc...
I refuse to see Edge of Tomorrow because of Tom Cruise. I hate that man with a passion. He should stick to playing secondary asshole characters because they fit his personality better. |

I feel like I don't like Tom Cruise, but I do generally love the movies he's in. Minority Report, War of The Worlds and Oblivion are all in my favourite films of the last decade. Plus, half the fun of Edge of Tomorrow is how much Cruise is taken out of his comfort zone for the majority of the movie. He has to play an utter asshole and make himself look like a dick, before he's allowed a moment of self indulgent ass kicking. It may not be a huge leap, but it's still a step in the right direct for his career in my opinion. He may not have had much of a career evolution since Top Gun but his fifties is the best time to start as any. |
I hated War of the Worlds with a passion, Oblivion was garbage and I've never watched Minority Report.
|
The only Tom Cruise movie that I like is The Last Samurai. Top Gun I haven't seen in forever, and those are about the only ones I've seen. Everything else just seems meh to me.

I think I would've liked Minority Report a lot more if the writers realized what attempted murder was.
"We're arresting someone who never broke a law." It was decent, otherwise. Wasn't a big fan of War of the Worlds, but I didn't hate it as much as everyone else did. |
Watched Pitch Perfect with GreenLace over the weekend... holy shit this is a good movie. Good music, interesting characters and a reference to an old movie that's actually relevant to the plot? Who could ask for more?
Seriously people, SEE THIS MOVIE! Edit: Oh and it's funny as hell! :D |

I find most of DCs animated movies kinda crap, if I'll be honest. I think DC comics make it much better to live action, just like Marvel's do.

My favorites are The Dark Knight Returns, Green Lantern First Flash, Flashpoint, Wonder Woman, Under the Red Hood, Crisis on Multiple Earths, and then all of the shorts, especially The Spectre and Jonah Hex. In fact, we need more Spectre and Jonah Hex. |

He seems pointless and stupid, I know, but he has one of the best series I've ever read. He's also really, really likable as a character. Quote:

Alien - One of the best movies ever made. 9/10.
Aliens - Not as good as Alien, but still a great movie. 8/10. Alien 3 - You know, this movie is not terrible, it just isn't that good of a sequel to Aliens, or even an Alien movie. It's biggest problem is that it is flat out boring and moves at the pace of a snail. Oh, and it was a bitch move killing Hicks and Newt off screen, but at least Newt died with a sense of security in her life. The best thing of the movie though is its ending as it feels conclusive. Ripley is gone for good. Right? RIGHT?! :-D Oh yeah, and one of the worst things about the movie is that awful CGI used on the Xenomorph. It just looks down right terrible and you can clearly tell the creature is not even actually there. Roger Rabbit combined animation and live action better. Overall, I give Alien 3 a 5/10. |
I've been on a Disney marathon. So far I have watched:
The Lion King The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh Oliver & Company Bambi The Hunchback of Notre Dame Hercules part of Melody Time (it got boring) Aladdin Return of Jafar Aladdin and the King of Thieves Lion King II: Simba's Pride Mary Poppins Pooh's Grand Adventure The Tigger Movie Angels in the Outfield Davy Crockett: King of the Wild Frontier Davy Crockett and the River Pirates Old Yeller Escape to Witch Mountain The Tigger Movie The Parent Trap Buzz Lightyear of Star Command Bedknobs and Broomsticks George of the Jungle The Jungle Book The Aristocats Peter Pan The Rescuers The Rescuers Down Under |
It's been so long since I've seen Alien or Aliens, and I don't think I've ever watched Aliens 3 in full before...Hm...

The Warriors is probably one of the best Blurays I own, not only does The Warriors seem to age better with every viewing but it's one of the most loving restorations in my collection since I watched my Jaws Bluray. I'm a little disappointed that it doesn't come with the theatrical release, but I think I'm one Warriors fan who can live with, and even enjoy, the Directors version.
Also watched a little British TV movie called 'The 7:39' wasn't expecting to absolutely love its portrayal of real life, but I'm honestly thinking of putting it on, if not the top of my best of the year list, in the top three. Wonderful. |
Has just watched High Plains Drifter and Bronco Billy who both has Clint Eastwood as the main role... I just love the man, he is amazing and he is a legend:)

I like the Thing :lol |
Just had a mini X-Men marathon with my friend and rewatched First Class, Wolverine Origins and 1 & 2. Need to go back and do 3 and The Wolverine at some point before DoFP is out of the cinemas.
I enjoyed First Class when it first came out, but back then I was a lot less forgiving about source material changes with gave me a lot of problems with it. This time I was a lot less judgemental and enjoyed it even more, though I still hate the way they did Emma Frost in it. But that shot right at the end with Magneto in the red - completely forgot about it and how much it gives me tingles. Origins I'm a bit ashamed to say I enjoyed a bit more this time around too. It's still not a great movie and the big changes are pretty unforgivable, but up to a certain point (roughly around the time he gets the adamantium) its a fairly solid film. 1 & 2 I hadn't seen in YEARS, and man I love them just as much now as I ever did. |
Saw 22 Jump Street as my first movie of 2014. It was overall worth seeing it.
I got to give credit to the writers who knew people would have doubts about a sequel and the movie was a barrel of laughs. Plus it was smartly written with a plot that knew where it had to go but didn't make it painfully obvious about this matter. It was a retread of the first movie in a new setting, but it was entertaining and if given the chance I'd see it in theaters again, plus buy its Blu Ray when it comes out. |
If you've seen Doug and Rob Walker's Sibling Rivalry in How to Train Your Dragon 2, then you know how they say that in the movie a character dies and you kinda see it coming. Well after watching that masterpiece I must say that said event shocked me. Mostly because I was expecting Hiccup's mom to die when it turns out Hiccup's DAD dies.
Well, that played against my expectations of the "Main character meets their long lost XYZ and shortly after reuniting, the long lost XYZ dies and the main character vows to fulfill their dying wish/life's goal" trope happening in this movie. |
