Loved Nexus, it's what really got me obsessed with UltraMan. I watched the movie half way through the series I thought it helped there.
|
What did you guys think of the latest Ultraman Orb??? It was a tribute to Episode 28 of Gaia.
|
Episode 3 was another interesting episode. Even if the SSP side of things feel a little more on the comedic side than the last couple of episodes. Then again given the story of the episodes it make a sense for it to have a little more comedy. Again, talking about an effect shot, I love it when the shoot things to give the monster and battle a sense of scale. although it did answer the question I had on if Gai would just straight into Burnmight (Burnmite?) or form change somehow. On a side not I wonder when we'll see another VTOL member outside the girl's Uncle.
|
Marathoned up to episode 4 and Ishiguro sure has a lot of Hayakawa swagger going on alongside some extra dose of humor.
I love the ssp trio and love that they are ditching the retsuden format and going standalone. Guess they managed to acquire quite the budget this time as well given that Ishiguro has become as prolific as Sato post-Den-O. |

He is still young but he has at least a decade of acting to back him up as well so I am satisfied with the acting. |
TV-Nihon has done a couple of releases for Ultraman's 50th anniversary so I finally got to see a movie I've wanted to see for years now: Superior 8 Ultra Brothers (or however you want to translate the title). I think the big transformation scene from this was possibly the first Ultra anything I'd ever seen, back around the time I was first getting into tokusatsu - I'm not even sure if I'd seen Decade yet. I was really impressed by how many of the original actors came back to reprise their roles, even though I really couldn't tell you who any of them were. I actually still haven't seen most of these shows, but I know enough now to really get most of the references.
As for the movie itself, I freaking loved it. All of the returning actors did a great job and I really want to see more of their original shows, especially Return and Dyna, which I've seen nothing from so far. I really liked that Daigo and Rena were such important characters, but having so many supporting characters from all of these shows was also cool (I've been watching Gaia recently, so the cameos at the end totally clicked for me). The plot was also a lot of fun and the moment when they started remembering their other lives was a brilliant pay-off to all the build up. I really loved the whole thing and would recommend it to any Ultra fan. |
Just putting this here if that's alright. The information is from Jorge from Tokusatsu Network, guy put a link to his twitter page in his poat. http://forums.henshinjustice.com/sho...re-Productions
If this is true Ultra fans are going to be pretty happy for the next couple of years. |
Exciting! I'm happy that Ultraman seems to be doing well for itself lately.
I've been sick all weekend so I watched some goddamn Ultraman - The Ginga S movie, Tiga the Final Odyssey and Orb. Those are some fun movies. Worth watching but they both take place after their respective TV series so you should probably watch the series' first. |

Watched the Ginga S movie today. It was okay. The plot was really rushed and didn't make a ton of sense in places, but the action was pretty good (if full of Sakamoto-isms). I always like seeing older Ultramen come back, so there was a lot of fun to be had here, especially with Zero. I spent a lot of time trying to figure out who the actress was that played Arena - it was Arisa Yomiya from Go-Busters. It was a reasonably fun movie overall, but I liked the 8 Ultra Brothers movie more.
|
Do you guys get tired of the Ultras fighting so many old monsters and very little new ones???
|
I don't mind them using old monsters. When they keep reusing the SAME old monsters it gets kind of annoying.
|
Speaking of monsters, Crunchyroll's giving us Kaiju Girls.
|
Finally got to episode 40 of Leo and uh.....wow.
|
What ultraman series do you reccomend to start with,

The first Ultra series I was ever exposed to was "Ultraman: Towards The Future". Also known as Ultraman Great from Australia.http://vignette1.wikia.nocookie.net/...aman_Great.png

I'd watch them in this order: 1966 or Max first, then your second choice, Mebius, and finally X. Also recommend checking out Ultra Seven after watching the original Ultraman show, then checking out Tiga or Nexus. Finally, I wholeheartedly recommend Mega Monster Battle: Ultra Galaxy Legends The Movie after watching Mebius, then following that up with Ultraman Zero: The Revenge of Belial. Both are great back-to-back movies full of toku action. |

What about Tiga??? He had a ton of original monsters and changed some aspects like Form Changing.

Sorry to dig up an old post but I wasn't sure where else to put it. But Tsuburaya filed a trademark for a new Ultraman show. http://tokusatsunetwork.com/2017/03/...eed-trademark/
EDIT: and I see I'm a few hours late so never mind lol. |
So I'm planning on watching Xead, and it looks like Zero and Belial feature prominently in it. I'd kinda like to have a little more context on them. Can I watch the movies with Zero without any prior knowledge?

The other two though, Zero the movie and Saga, you shouldn't have any problems watching them without any prior knowledge of Ultraman, outside of a few common knowledge things like their three minute time limit. In fact, you don't even need to watch them in order. They're entirely stand alone. If you're a new fan, I'd actually recommend you skip Mega Monster Battle and go straight to Zero the Movie. Zero is barely in the first one and, outside of learning some backstory and why Zero and Belial are rivals in the first place, there really isn't any thing too crucial you learn about Zero in that movie. At least, nothing that'll mean much if you're not a fan yet. Zero the Movie and Saga are just much easier to watch. |
Thanks for the response! I'll probably try to watch Zero at some point before Xead starts, then.

It was on Youtube (still is, to my knowledge), which made it easier to do. |
I'm up to episode 8 of Leo and things still aren't working for me. I don't know what it is, but the formula is really bothering me in this one. Every episode has a monster attacking, Leo can't beat it, Dan bitches him out for it, makes him do some training to get better, Leo figures it out and then defeats the monsters. I know getting frustrated at a Toku show for a set formula is kind of foolish, but it's just not jelling with me for this show. I guess I just miss the really weird and complex nature Ultra Seven had. But then, even Ultraman was quite enjoyable despite being formulaic. I've also yet to find a character to grow attached to (and turning Dan into a jackass didn't help) and I'm not finding Leo himself to be anything special. I like that he is an inexperienced Ultra, as he was a civilian and not a cop, but it makes it hard for him to really have a signature move of his own when half of the time the monsters just seem to disappear rather than be destroyed. I didn't even realize the monster in episode 7 had been defeated until Dan cheered.
Also, I really want Tooru and Kaoru to go away. I don't care if they get adopted by another family and leave or get killed, I just want them gone as they are really annoying me. |

Then there's episode 40, which was pretty much the status quo changes of status quo changes.

Random post about Ultraman so here goes.
I liked Ultraman 80 because of an Ultraman being a school teacher is interesting and fun. Keep in mind this was a decade prior to Fiveman where the rangers were teachers. They basically took Kinpachi Sensei, a popular school drama that aired its first season a year ago and got on the bandwagon to give it the Ultraman spin. And that Ultraman 80 centered episode in Ultraman Mebius was just AWESOME. Design might not have been the best but the show was nice. |
I fell out of watching Leo. I made it up to the episode where Astra first appears but I kinda stalled out when the preview showed that the next one was about an obnoxious child actor playing the monster. I did enjoy the show, for the most part, but it never clicked with me like most of the other Ultra shows.

I finished Orb and and hoping to watch Orb Origin Saga. The production values for the latter look ridiculously high and I am very interested.
I have to say, I've overlooked the Ultra series for years which is sad because in truth Ultraman Seven (or Ultraseven) was the first toku series I ever watched here when in in was dubbed in Malay decades ago. I watched Ultraman Taro and got VHS of Ultraman Ace (AKA, Ultraman cuts shit up) way back. I think the only"modern" Ultraman I followed was Tiga and that almost 21 years old to this day (holy crap I am old). Somehow I was never able to hold onto my love for it but Orb rekindled some nostalgia in me. I may go hunting for past series and see if I can keep this up. |
What is a good Ultraman show to introduced a large group of people too? My Anime & Manga club at my college is doing a Live Action day tomorrow, so I was wondering.

Nexus because of its different tone, Gaia because Gamu actually does stuff as his normal self, before going Ultra. |
