Another great episode. This season has been truly fantastic and we are already four weeks in. However, I must admit that the downside to knowing the comic books is that I called it as to who killed Sara weeks ago. In the comics, Ra's has always gone out of his way to make Nyssa's life miserable, which is why she killed him several years ago. As such, it was quite obvious he was the one who killed Sara. Other than that, just another fantastic episode.
Flash was great as well. I am so happy to see they are not making Cold a meta human. I also love Cold's face when Cisco called him by that name. I cannot wait to see what next week's episode is going to bring us. The writing in this show is so good that it is hard to believe they are only four episodes in. SPeaking of Flash, I borrowed from the library the first three volumes of the N52 trades and man the writing is awful. Granted, I'm only three issues in, but still, was this written by someone with ADD? Tomorrow (well, Sat for me) will be Constantine. WOOHOO!! So I was in my local comic shop today and was just going to pick up the last issue of learning to crawl that I was missing but then I chose to pick up the first issue of The Multiversity as well...and I love that book.
Seems like after three years I finally found a DC book again that got me hooked and ready to get this one every month. Its a Morrison multiverse book so its expected that it will turn out being pretty mindfuckery and it really was. Its especially cool to see how the narration boxes manage to make you the reader a character inside of the story. There were some moments when my mouth was just wide open while reading the book. Oh and yeah...Captain Carrot for the win!!! :lol |

I picked up the first issue of Multiversity and immediately called my comic store to remove it from my hold list after I finished reading it. I thought it was down right dreadful.

Ugh. I know it had to happen, but Katie Cassidy is just awful. Oh well, at least her boobs are covered.

I...just can't get excited :(
Black Canary is without a doubt my favourite character in the entire DC Universe, but Laurel is a bloody awful character and the idea of her taking up the mantle just fills me with dread. And even if I were behind it, its WAY too soon for her to be in a half-way decent fighter. Ted Grant may be good, but I doubt he's that good. If she's only going to be going after rapists/drug dealers/thugs whatever for the rest of the season then sure, but she's going to be nowhere near the level of any other fighter that appears on the show. I miss Sara :( |

(Back to Sara for a moment, though, I really hoped when Nyssa was adamant about seeing her body that meant we'd see her wake up later in a Lazarus Pit. Sadly, I don't think it is to be.) |
I fear the stubborn "no-one on this show is going to have powers" approach the Arrow writers are employing is going to harm the show before long if they aren't careful. It was fine in a post-Flash world, but now that the two are sharing the same universe I don't see the point of beating around issues like the Lazarus Pit if they're going to use characters like Ra's.
|
Actually, Laurel is not the problem. It is her actress that is. I wish they could just have her get beaten up so badly that she has to have reconstructive surgery and they recast her.
|
So I just started Volume 4 of the N52 Flash and yeah, I am so glad I did not buy these. There have been some really great moments, such as the conversations between the Rogues during the Gorilla Invasion, but I really do not like this version of Grodd and I hate the design of Reverse Flash. I really hope he only looks like that because he is inside the Speed Force, and that is not what he looks like for real. If so, I already hate him. The Trickster issue started out good, but then it got really stupid and confusing with Marissa for some reason being frozen and that she was given powers, but then she is dead in the next issue, making her utterly pointless. Ugh, the writing in this sucks. At least Barry is Barry and I will admit, I like his N52 costume. It is a little too busy, but if you get rid of the lines, the only different it has with his original costume is in the boots.

Way too many characters are playing at pretend archer now. |

And secondly no. A few months training from a boxer would not put you on level pegging with people who've been trained by military experts or assassins for years. Arguably Roy has gotten as good as he is too quickly, but he's been at the fighting game A LOT quicker than Laurel. If Laurel is shown anywhere near the level of the current vigilantes when she becomes Canary, then the show is rushing stuff to terrible effect. And to be honest, the "he's Wildcat for crying out loud" doesn't apply all that much either. This isn't the aged man who spent years training Batman and Black Canary in the comics. This is a relatively young guy who just had a stab at the vigilante game once. I'm sure he's a good teacher, but you're putting him on a pedestal this show just hasn't given him. |
Seeing as she is not supposed to be Black Canary for a few more episodes, I don't think they are rushing it. Remember, some times this episodes pass through real time, so it has been weeks since Sarah died. By the time she becomes Canary, two months will have past. Plus, I doubt she is just going to be 100% agile the first time around.
BTW, did anyone else love West's comment towards Barry, "Something weird is happening, it must be Tuesday in Central City." |

Also yes, there do seem to be a lot of people with bows. We get it, he's an archer. Not every villain he goes against has to be one too. I think the problem is since Flash came out and gave us that taste of a tv series about a superhero with actual powers using them on screen, Arrow has lost some of it's flair. It's still good, and I watch it all the time, but now it has competition. |

I hope they start also doing cross overs with Constantine next year, even if it is just a one shot. As for Arrow's villains being archers, don't blame the show, blame the comics. In the comics there are a lot of archers too, such as Merlyn, Cupid, Arsenal, Artemis, Speedy (Mia Dearden), and Komodo. Plus, there have been plenty of villains he has gone up against that aren't like Clock King, Grundy, Vertigo, Deadshot, Bronze Tiger, China White, etc. |
Are two rivalling networks likely to engage in any sort of crossover though? I don't exactly know a lot about American networks, but on face value that sounds unlikely to me.
|
It is not going to happen. Cross-network things like that simply do not happen. They aren't going to crossover Constantine with Arrow/Flash. Now I wouldn't be opposed to such a thing as Constantine hasn't been too bad, but networks just don't toss their shows and characters together like that. At the end of the day networks are competitors with one another, in much the same way Marvel & DC will never do another VS event, there's no incentive for networks to in essence advertise programming on other networks.
There was talk of Gotham having a Flash connection just because some low level actor who played Zsasz on Gotham played the Mist on Flash, thankfully that was purely coincidental. God help us if a crossover it'd probably be fucking Gotham & that terrible sounding CBS Supergirl series :lol Gotham is shit enough without getting mixed up in another show that sounds like Smallville 2.0. |
Normally, no, but this they are all DC shows, so if DC demands a cross over episode, I'm sure it will happen.

The comic properties broadcast by them are leased out via contract from Warner but that's it. There is no possibility of a crossover just "because DC said so." DC doesn't even make that decision, Warner does. And even then these companies are not obligated to do inter-network crossovers. These shows are developed as unique entities on each network, they're not set up to be parts of shared universes with these other shows (Arrow/Flash aside) on other networks. It's not built into the framework of these shows. |
I'm just hoping for a Crisis on Infinite Earths movie featuring all of those universes.

As for there being archers, I see your point. I also totally forgot all the other villains he fought. The Suicide Squad episodes are some of my favorites, especially the one where we get an extremely brief, offscreen cameo by Harley. |
I hope DC takes advantage of the Arrow universe, just in case their planned "DC Cinematic Universe" fails miserably. It would be interesting to see series based on other DC Superheroes like Nightwing, Green Lantern, Batman, and Superman set in the same universe as Arrow and The Flash.

On a different note I got The Multiversity: Pax Americana today and damn that was a good comic. I have to reread that a few times to try and grasp the full scope of this book but damn just damn. |

I still need to find a copy of that. |
Yeah we got mentions of Ferris Air multiple times already in Arrow and Coast City was also mentioned once or twice.
|
Pax Americana was awesome, but I think I need to read it a few more times before I fully understand it :lol
Batgirl #36 was another winner as well. This new run has been pretty incredible so far, if it keeps it up it could easily outshine Simone's stint on it. |

I´m amazed how much Morrison can fit into a 40 page comic. |

The art was quite nice, though. Far fewer "bags of skin filled with mashed potatoes" people than I usually see from Quitely. |
