As of today Power rangers has crossed 100 mil mean from head on it's all profit.

Even if it isn't, home video sales should take care of the rest. |

So no, PR is not into all profit yet. |
One thing to take into consideration. Power rangers marketing was rather limited compared to other big blockbuster movies and the budget was shared between LionsGate & Saban.

So... yeah, finally got to see it...
The criticisms I've had for all the designs are still valid, but they did so much else right... yeah, I'll let it slide for the most part. Billy is great, he's... he feels right. Like, whoever wrote this has actually dealt with high-functioning autists instead of just reading about them. I cringed but in sympathy... Yes, the Cramston story bit is very much something an aspie could conceivably do. Frankly, every second he was on-screen was a "Yeah, I could see myself doing something like that" thing. Everyone else wasn't AS good, but they filled the roles adequately. I think, in a lot of ways, the film actually hits on a lot of what the best Rangers seasons were also good about. Kind of like watching the MMPR storyline, but written more like RPM... Actually, yeah, RPM is probably the series I feel is most in-line with this, in both good and bad qualities. The character moments are spot-on, but the stunts and action are kind of weak at times. Also, I heard the phrase "The Power Rangers were a legion," which I'm going to take as meaning that there's more teams out there in the cosmos. If there's not some interaction with another Ranger team in the 3rd or 4th movie, please let it get at least as many sequels as Transformers, I'm going to be seriously disappointed. I don't even care about the details; I just want to see two teams contrasting with each other somehow. Basically, I liked it. I'm not going so far as some people and wanting it to replace the show or anything like that, but I'm completely okay with accepting this as a worthy part of the franchise. |
Yeah. PR's marketing was about on par with a summer blockbuster's.
I don't know the average amount marketing for a film costs, but PR did run the full gamut with multiple TV spots, trailers, and ad spots/posters everywhere. Additionally, from what I've learned, you need to double the cost in profits to actually start making money from the film. The remaining weeks in theaters and DVD sales will pull it off, though, considering the rate it's at. |

Hold up, I'm having trouble understanding what the budget actually covers, because I'm trying to wrap my head around why a film needs to make, as far as I can tell, a 100% profit margin in order to be considered profitable.
I mean, part of me says that can't possibly be right, but that's also the part that has way too much faith in humanity's intelligence. |
I think part of it has to do with net profit, since dropping 100 million to only get 100 million and 1 dollar back isn't exactly what any company would call a gain.
The 1 dollar is an exaggeration, since most companies wouldn't even call getting a million back after dropping 100 million a gain. Additionally, aside from marketing, perhaps taxation has something to do with it? Spend 100 mil, have a profit of 50 mil, I'm sure taxes will take a fair chunk of change from that 50, hence why it needs to have a full 100% profit in order to be seen as a success? I dunno. Movies are weird and when I look it up, people are writing effing novels on something I don't even have a passing interest in... |
Yeah... to be fair, what else would you expect from Hollyweird?

Just watched that, good video.

Green Ranger Dragon Shield?
anyone notice and wonder why Rita doesnt have the dragon shield as the green ranger flashback scene, hopefully Tommy will get it somehow
|
My guess: Remnants of Goldar forming around his creator.
|
...You know, the more I think about it, the more I can see the logic behind Goldar being what he is. I mean, I don't think it's the be all, end all solution, but I think having Rita having a minion or really any companion with a real personality would actually be detrimental to theme. Rita has no one, the Rangers have each other. Rita's golems are absolutely obedient, the Rangers need to adapt and grow to trust and care for each other. Basically, they need Rita to not have any other major personalities to be in alliance with her, no true friends or allies.
Of course, I'm still questioning whether I'm making excuses for the film-makers or not at this point. Although, there is something to be said about me wanting to make sense of the film, rather than just lambasting it for not doing so. |

This makes me wonder if Rita could build an army of Goldars.
Since it is just a mindless, humanoid blob of material, in this case gold, other than raw materials, there shouldn't be anything stopping her. |

Let me try to explain it this way. I don't think they could include a Goldar like the show version, but they still needed to include at least some of Rita's henchmen from the show, just for nostalgia's sake. I mean, this version essentially IS a giant Putty. It's just got a special name and is made with special material. Mind, having a giant mindless beastman would of been my preferred choice, but what we got... for what it's meant to do, it works. It's not ideal, but it could of been MUCH worse and it at least makes some form of sense. Plus, the making him out of gold angle leads to the bizarre, yet kind of cool, horror detour. I mean, I certainly didn't expect THAT of all things. |

The box office numbers are pretty low for a lionsgate superhero movies. There might be a sequel, but I don't think they can milk 6 movies if they're not making at least twice their budget. I wonder how well the toys are selling.

the lack of action disappoint me. Them inserting a few seconds of the Movie MMPR theme when the zords rolled out surprised me xD

I don't believe that China will save this movie like many think.
China loves over the top movie spectacle with insane ammounts of CGI and CGI action sequences. That's why the Transformers movies and Pacific Rim did so good. Warcraft is pretty much 90% CGI weirdness. Plus China REALLY loves giant robots. This movies has like what 45 seconds total zord actions, that is really bland and unexciting, and a single morphed action scene, while there's a full hour and 30 minutes of nothing but humans talking and talking and talking. I'm fairly certain that word of mouth will kill it in China and they'll go "eh I'll wait for the Transformers" movie. |
45 seconds of zord action? The entire climax is zord action. There's more time of the zords fighting than suit action.
|
I have to agree with matrix the hole third act was morphed and fighting scene
|
lol what morphed scene?
they cut the scene before they are fully suited up... the zord action was basically shooting at smaller mooks all the time while protecting the base. Megazord action was sooo meh. I thought we would actually see them fight Rita when morphed...but no. They freaking flicked her away. |
