How about giving them names with the same initials? Like Twilight could be Trix-... I don`t think I thought this through.

Not really, it's just a prevalent trope to ensure the audience that the characters in said mirror universe are counters of the original characters.

Out of story: So the audience knows who they are.
For example, you take, Wataru Kurenai, KR Kiva, and turn him into a pony, but then alter his name to "Crimson Fang", the audience will get lost and have a rough time believing him to be the same character.
Because the first name is North and the last name is West. Applejack is one word.

Oh I don't care for it either. But the one I found, the guy's actually set up pretty steady and it's not that bad at all.

Speaking of, the movie's not that bad either thus far... They all still look incredibly weird, but I also went in expecting it to be bad so...

and in the end, isn't that all that matters?... Ah, who am kidding. Pretty sure this movie has already been marked "ruined forever" and thrown into a pig pile next to the live action Transformers movies and Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

You don't name your child "North" when your last name is "West" unless you know exactly what you're trying to achieve.
It's the same effect as "Applejack," just in a less direct manner.
I guess, coming from the south, odd names ("Rosswell", "Glitter", "Sweetie" (Granted, this one was a middle name), "Till", "Wish" etc etc) were just everywhere you looked, so it wasn't that strange for me :p

Oh, I know.

and it's ok. My sister knew people with the name "Princess" (I swear, if my last name were Luna, I would name my future daughter Princess.)
