The Specter is a pretty dark character, so I would imagine a R rating would work for him. Personally I do feel like Superman does not need a R rated movie. The R rating for the home video release is done as a marketing gimmick to have people to buy the home video release. WB did the same thing by giving The Third Hobbit movie a R rated director's cut on Blu-Ray.
I do feel like The Killing Joke movie needs to be R rated if they want to be faithful to the graphic novel. |

It depends on the source material. Superheroes like Deadpool, Wolverine, Lobo, Specter, Punisher, Spawn, Invincible, Daredevil and Ghost Rider needs to have a R rated movie if they want it to have a proper movie adaption. When you take something that is R rated and make it PG-13, fans will hate it. Look at the first AVP movie, the 90's Mortal Kombat movies, the 1997 Spawn movie and the last two Ghost Riders. They water them down to make them to PG-13.

Mortal Kombat was just fine at PG13 though.

How can you say Dr. Fate needs an R rating, but Mortal Kombat is fine with PG-13? |
The only way I could feasibly see a Doctor Fate movie having an R-rating is if it was about this guy:

That's why people didn't like MK vs. DCU because the game was rated T and DC didn't want their characters being killed or have their characters killing other people. |
Yes, but as a video game it worked. My parents also would have never let me see it had it been R. Not everything needs to be overly bloody just for the sake of it.
Oh, and what is the issue with Cage defeating Goro? It's a fighting game. Any character can beat any character. Also, Scorpion and Sub-Zero were under Tsung's mind control. |
Believe it or not, Mortal Kombat has a rather rigid storyline.
For example, while I don't really know much about Goro, Scorpion has to kill Sub-Zero, since it plays into where the heroic Sub-Zero II and Noob come into play. |
Yeah, but those are the games, not the movie. They're two different things.
