I just don't feel they're the right idea for the Cybermen. I get that its a race constantly evolving, but by making them more and more robotic as time goes on you lose more and more of what made them scary in the first place.

But think of the possibilities!

A cyberman appears in the doorway, you blink and everyone in the room is dead already. That is so cool!

But still something I feel doesn't fit the Cybermen at all. But each to their own, for me the Cybermen peaked in the 60s and have never come close to reclaiming that.

You know what I hate the MOST about the new Cybermen though that I didn't mention? The fact it can't ever properly join my "Cybermen through the ages" display because the figures are moving to the lame 3.75" scale :mad:

Yeah, it only applies to newer series figures though. The classic figures are staying at 5".

To be fair, a lot of Classic Who manages to be scarier than New Who, even with the tacky production. Honestly I think the tackiness sometimes adds to the scare factor because so much of Classic Who is like some odd fever dream, I reckon there was a lot of cocaine involved.

The problem with the Cybermen is that they're going for "strong metal man/Iron Man" look now rather than "prosthetic human". Like I say it's inkeeping with the "upgrade" mindset they're clearly keeping in the new show, but makes it feel a lot less chilling by feeling less real. That's how I look at it anyway.

I agree(not necessarily about the cocaine, but well, it was the 60s and 70s, so that's probably right too). Classic Who could manage legitimate scares even with cellophane and cardboard monsters. New Dr Who has upped the quality of the SFX but seemingly sacrificed the ability to convey any tone other than madcap adventure.

I guess it's because so much of modern Who is so artificial. I don't wanna be 'that guy' but even at its most rubbery, practical effects were physically made and took heart and ingenuity, it's really there on screen and being interacted with. None of this is the case if it's done by CGI, especially when it's CGI done on a BBC budget.

It also doesn't help that Moffat is basically a massive Who fanboy and seems to pick stories that basically jack off Classic Who's ego rather than trying to do anything new or well...interesting.

Yeah the whole man aspect has seemingly vanished all together.

Which is a odd given how he has a love-hate relationship with classic Who and had quite vocal opinions about it at one point.
