So what's this about Gaim having the lowest Rider ratings I'm seeing? What happened to the explosion of popularity and sales it had?

Discarding the fact that it got pretty dark and probably turned some of the more vulnerable viewers off, where are you reading this?

In an unrelated Sentai topic, Suzu kept going on and on about. Figured I'd steer direction back to a more proper location for inquiring about it.

It was one of the best shows to us westerners... so it left me confused.

Not really surprising if it did. It was written by Urobuchi after all, and even if it wasn't as dark as his previous works, it was still a bit detached from the usual tone of Rider.

Do recall that that you're comparing apples to oranges here- what works for us in the Anglosphere and related cultures does not necessarily work over in Nihon, and vice versa. Darker seasons tend to do worse over there and better over here, while comedic ones are the inverse. It's a cultural thing.

Also, I still want to see concrete numbers just for my own edification. If it's coming from a place like TV Tropes, I'd take it with a grain of salt.

Yeah, that's kind of what I was hoping for - numbers to back up her claims.

And that's precisely why I included the part about "westerners" before. :) I know tastes can be different, and if past seasons are anything to go by, can easily be 100% opposites, so I was taking that into consideration as possible rationale for why it did "bad." Despite, again, how insane sales were at the start. I know they dropped off, like any show would really, but was it really that badly?

First off its not entirely Suzus fault. I told her about it before.

Next is that even I´m not at fault since I heard it from Lynxara on several occasions :lol I dont have direct numbers but I trsut Lynxara enough to take her word for it that Gaims toy sales were through the roof but Gaim didnt have the ratings Toei and Asahi wanted from the show. They were nearly as good as shows like OOO or Double that were in direct comparison alot more successful than Gaim was.

Some speculate that the low ratings come from Kids not really loving the heavy serialized format. It got too complicated for some of them and if they would miss some episodes it would be very hard to get back into the show.
