I don't see filler as a necessary story telling device. I see it as pointless padding, and I treat it as such. The audience doesn't need a break.
You're not a writer for a company who has mandates and required material inserted in. Tell the story in a logical manner, not just inserting fluff to stretch it out.

...That would have been a freaking awesome storyline for Equestria girls to have a Kamen rider in it. Fanfic writers get on that!
