I'll go with Froakie because between me and my two friends. We decided to go with a different one each. I picked last so I got Froakie but he does look cool.
|
Don't for get torchic the second starter you get on game due first day releases gift
|
The order of starters for the generations.
Charmander, Totodile, Torchic, Piplup, Oshawott, and now Fennekin, as you can see i've never picked Grass. |
Squirtle, Chikorita, Mudkip, Turtwig, Tepig.
Because cannon tortoise, consistent cuteness, secondary Ground, secondary Ground and Samuwott looks far too different from Dewott. |
My reasons are i don't really like the other 2 gen 1 starters, i loved Totodile in the anime, a cute to badass evolution, Piplup same reason as Totodile and Oshawott the same reason as Torchic.
|
Gen 1, have to go with Fire Starter. Charizard rules.
Gen 2, they're all kinda weak but Totodile is a favorite. Gen 3, Treeko was probably the best but Torchic had its charm too. Gen 4, really have a hard time deciding between Chimchar and Turtwig for best. Gen 5, Oshawatt is the clear winner. And right now I can't decide on the new ones until we know for sure what they evolve into. |
Charmander, Totodile, Treeko, Turtwig, Snivy, and now Chespin.
*Shrugs* |
You know, I think I might be one of the only people in this fandom that doesn't love generation 2. I honestly can't stand playing through them.
|
I have PLENTY of people to get the other two starters from, so I'm sticking to tradition and getting Fennekin.
And yeah, it's weird barely knowing the 'dex. But personally I think that's a great thing. |

The gen 2 remakes have this really great feeling when you play them, like they feel both new and old it makes me happy.
|
HeartGold is an amazing game and probably the most fulfilling experience in Pokemon to date since it has such a huge variety of stuff to do.
But i find it difficult to get through because so many of the Johto Pokemon SUCK. Especially in the early stages when you're trying to get invested in this new adventures but all you run up against are some ugly bugs, a squirrel and the same damn birds you were sick of last time. |

The bug contest does give some nice pokemon iirc. I actually haven't played the gen 2 remakes, I feel dissapointed in myself. |
That's the outstanding problem I had with Gen 2. It probably had some of the dullest or just worthless Pokemon available. For every Tyranitar or Espeon, you had a crappy Stantler or Umbreon just taking up space.

Man, gen 2 pokemon suck. Then again against the unbreakable walls that the Gen 2 starters were, everything pales in comparison. |
Johto Poke's aren't completely irredeemable though. There's a few great ones-Heracross, Ursaring, Donphan, Houndoom, Skarmory. And a few modifications to old favorites like Magby & Scizor. Plus a couple that started out bad but wound up awesome thanks to new evolutions in Gen. 4 (Gliscor is one of my favorites).

One of my favorite pokemon ever. |
Heracross is cool, but I was vastly let down by all the new dark type offerings beyond Tyranitar (Sneasel was kind of neat, but you could blink too hard in it's direction and it'd faint).
Gen 2 was the most fun games for me, but it had the worst new Pokemon, IMO (Despite introducing some of my all time favs, such as Heracross or Feraligatr). |

I think gen 2 is just considered a masterpiece because Johto is just a fun place to explore.
|
I'ma use Fennekin in X & Chespin in Y o3o.
|
At this point Froakie is probably my starter of choice but please release the full evolutionary lines for all 3 so I can make up my mind! :D
|
IKR, we are almost one month before the international release and no new info of the starters' evolves yet. Seriously, what the frakk is taking Game Freak & Nintendo so long for those images .-.?!??!
|
Chespin is probably one of the first times I actually really liked a base form since Totodile and Cyndaquil.
|
I love gen 2, but I was actually pretty disappointed with the gen 4 remakes personally.
They were great games and probably the ones I'd recommend if someone asked me if they had to play ONE Pokemon game which one should it be, but they just didn't recapture the magic of the originals for me. Also my initial starter picks were Charmander, Totodile, Mudkip, Piplup and Snivy :p |
My starters have been- Squirtle (Blue), Charmander (Red), Cyndaquil (Gold) Totodile (Silver), Cyndaquil (Crystal), Treecko (Ruby), Squirtle (FireRed), Bulbasaur (LeafGreen), Treecko (Emerald), Turtwig (Japanese Diamond), Chimchar (Japanese Pearl), Piplup (English Diamon), Turtwig (Platinum), Cyndaquil (HeartGold), Oshawott (White), Tepig (Black), Snivy (Black 2)
|
Personally I think the reason I don't like the gen 2 games because, at least in the remakes, all the gym leaders were ridiculously unfair.

I had:
Pikachu... (Charmander in fire red though) Cyndaquil Mudkipz Turtwig Oshawott in black and Tepig in 2 And I'm going to go for Chespin in X/Y, don't want to know the Evo's yet personally, I'd rather find out during play (Managed it for Diamond and couldn't of been happier at how Turtwig turned out =D) . On the other hand though i do really like Gogoat.. so I might go for Froakie. Either way im going to try and keep away from spoilers/any new poke info from now. |

And the little fire lion dude, Litleo. I'll be getting him in the hopes of a badass evo =D

But every generation, there's a pull to the other starters because of the huge wave (pun intended, shamefully) of Water starters to flood (another pun :() you with. Quote:

When I first saw Oshawott I thought that he was the most stupid pokemon ever... :P
(His design really bothered me) Thankfully I already corrected my mistake, and he's my favorite Unova Starter now. |
He's basically a Pokemon version of Brock i love it.

I was just randomly thinking, and I'm kind of surprised that we haven't heard anything about transferring Pokemon from the DS games yet. I assume we'll get a pokemon box type app or some sort of mini game app that can link the games. After all the dream radar has shown that the two types of software can communicate.
Or do we think that that feature will be cut off? Did it exist in the transfer from 2nd to 3rd gen? |
