So far on OO, this show is so oddly paced, I want to praise the show for having just one big quest but then internal, smaller storylines seem to get shafted in the process, like Dax's relationship which was been treated as a joke in every episode but the one centred on it, or how their huge quest ended with them finding a pearl in a ghosts beard in such a ludicrously contrived fashion that it tore down any pretence that this is some methodical, planned out serial.
That isn't mentioning that the globe trotting aspect of the series and the implication of a large number of independent villain factions is largely brushed over so we can pour a painful amount of time into a single action sequence instead. OO is one of the most epic Power Rangers shows ever, and somehow feels like one of the smallest. Speaking specifically of episode 8 though, it was another enjoyable episode. The original American Footage has come HELL of a long way from the days when well...remember that AWFUL fight between the White and Green Ranger? Yeah... The action in general was just so good, I love how many villains in this show provide a 'oh shit' factor, Kamdor and Will's showdown especially was just epic. Just a shame about the acting. |

And yes, this season does not suck. It has a Dump Driver full o' problems, but it's not nearly as terrible as people make it out to be. Sorta like Turbo's baby brother. |
He's probably watching it off Netflix.
|
more like turbo is oo little brother.
|
More like Turbo is too good for this world.
|
Yeah, that i definitely have to disagree with. I hated the cast of OO, I hated the thing with the red ranger, but most of all, I hated the villains. All I could think of whenever one of them was on screen, especially the ice dude, were these guys:
http://24.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m8...cjjwo1_500.jpg And the yeti looked even worse than the ice miser. |

Norg sucks, Norg sucks, Norg SUCKS!!! And the Miser Bros. are one of the reasons I love the OO baddie brothers so far. That and Flurious (the ice guy) has awesome practical makeup. |
You see the great thing about all of those on the fence with OO is this, people have hyped up the faults to such ludicrous degrees, the show can never live up to the bile spat at it, which means that every aspect of the series impresses because you were forced into the show with expectations through the floor.
Yeah the plot, pacing and acting are all kind of weak. But the ideas are all great, the Boukenger footage is great, the new American action sequences are fantastic, as they always are with Kalish era Rangers. And when people say things like 'they just stopped trying with oo', that is just flat out wrong. The sheer amount of new stuff filmed for this is staggering, the effort and money they must have put into this is mad crazy, especially after coming straight off the back of Mighty Morphin' which plays out almost entirely like a Sega CD FMV. |
OO 9. Although nothing special, it was once again a great blend of stunning action and a great cast. Although Daddy Red isn't all that great a character, I love the little scenes between him and Mack and Spencer is the best character in the show.
Hell even the Super Drivemax Megazord wasn't that bad, I'd grown so used to the secondary stages of the Megazords to be these hideous, flappy clusterfucks, but that didn't really look too bad. Although I do hate the way new Zords keep coming out of nowhere. It is almost as bad as Dino Thunder for pulling new Zords out of its ass to overkill levels. |
OO 10 was fairly uninspiring but once again the action was so good, along with the new footage, so it was still entertaining.

OO 11. Rose should totally visit Sakurako, I bet she could decode that parchment. But no, they go to London, to visit a professor who can translate...crop circles? Dafuq?
Mack got more stuff...yay... No wonder this show referenced Mystic Force, they both bloat the importance of the Red Ranger. Mack is as a fucking asshole anyway, spending more time trying to save this monster he just met, than his friends who are getting totally trashed. A good monster was a cool concept in itself, but the voice acting ranges from terrible to bland in this show, so I find it very hard to care about any of the villains. The same thing happened for me in Jungle Fury. It's a shame because most of them have cool designs or motivations. It wasn't all bad though, I'm still loving the sight of the Rangers actually saving people like proper superheroes. And I like how Dax used the Defender Vest this week, as Mack has enough stuff exclusive to him as it is already.... even if it randomly disappears next scene. The action scenes in general, both the copious amounts of American footage and Boukenger footage is fantastic, I love seeing them morph off of so many different surfaces, including enemies weapons. If nothing else, this show is worth watching as a mindless, popcorn action show. |
OO 12. Which is the second part of episode 11. And it was paced terribly...
But man this episode had some great action, even if the CGI is horrendous. Loving that the Defender Vest is being passed around the team. Also, Overdrive you were doing so well, but that Ultrazord is horrendous, look how limited the movement is, look at all the bits hanging off and flapping out. So, so shit. Sadly though, this is one of the worst offenders of back explosions I've ever seen. Most of the time the whole back explosion thing doesn't bother me like it did Linkara, but here you could actually see the projectiles flying over or past the targets and hitting the ground behind them, while the target acts like they were hit anyway. Which means it didn't just look like they were missing, they did. That kinda undermines the epicness. Also wow, this team is really bad, huh? There is Mack trusting some lizard he's just met and going to greater lengths for it than his team, which actually comes no surprise as the possibility of Mack's death has the team arguing over who gets his Zords... |
OO 13. Jesus slow the fuck down! Everything just kept...happening, without reason or context. Even the action, which I usually love, fell flat this week when two random monsters basically spent the whole episode fighting without any context to what they were doing. Seeing them really get to use their civilian powers was fun though.

It's good to know that OO uses them a bit more. |

Still, the same problems kinda remain for me. They worked in Ninja Storm because they were Ninja and their Ranger powers and civilian powers were largely the same Ninja Arts. But remember how Conner had super speed, but it was Trent who had that signature super speed attack, when his power was camouflage? Yeah, why the fuck would you do that? I hated the ones in SPD as well, as they gave each Ranger an extremely useful ability which almost made them a plothole as I constantly wondered (although I knew why) in the context of SPD, the Rangers would refuse to use their civilian powers to the point of nearly dying because of it, whenever they morphed. The same thing kinda happens here, with the civilian powers adding so much identity to the Rangers in the unmorphed fight scenes and the powers really fitting with the characters well, the Rangers almost become blander when they morph. And in some cases their morphed fighting style or weapon or whatever totally contradicts what their American counterpart is about, completely breaking the illusion. |
Which is why I like the RPM Civilian powers. They were only used when morphed, they actually were used in the season more than past Civilian powers (like Ziggy's teleporting being the cause of the plot for 2 different episodes).
"But they aren't civilian powers if the Rangers use them while morphed" Touché… |

Part Two of Man of Mercury.
Wait a minute, when did this show become all about aliens? Flurious and Moltor aren't aliens, they were humans who were blasted off to different planets...who I guess found aliens on those planets and made armies out of them? Either way. Now apparently every enemy in the series is some alien from some different planet and the show just takes it in its stride. The focus of this show suddenly feels very far away from where the show started, it was about the crown yes, but not about every criminal in all of space and time coming to Earth to find it. And this isn't something that is built towards either, it happens so fast you don't even notice until several episodes later where aliens are casual conversation topics. This lack of context for anything really undermines the series in a lot of ways, the Fearcats are really cool but we know fuck all about them and what we see of them outside of action is minuscule and plagued by terrible voice acting. I want to love them, because they are so good in the fighting, but I just can't care about something that gives me no reason to care. Was kinda creepy seeing their corpses dragged along the ground though... Luckily that lead to them taking new, awesome forms. Also Tyzon's back story sucked, if the Fearcats could get out without using the front door, why did that cave in at the entrance kill his "elite" team? I know this is limited by children's broadcasting, but censorship isn't the problem here, the problem is this is stupid. He is such an awesome Ranger though. As ever though, the action is just fantastic. The upgraded Fearcats were badass, Mercury's introductory fight was stunning and Ronny especially got such a great episode. For a show that puts so much emphasis on the Red, it's nice that every now and then it remembers he isn't the only member of the team. Also Ronny totally wants Tyzon's metallic D. |
Okay OO 15, the first episode with a complete team...and it's a comedy filler episode, great. It is also one of those episodes that seems to forget all the characterisation of the past, like here where Dax struggles with the TV talk show, despite acting just fine when he got the part in that movie. Or like how Ronny convinced Ty to join the team, because failing isn't just for failures, yet this episode acts like it's the first time the Rangers have ever failed completely undermining her point.
Plus, the episode just seemed to really drag, as much as I love the infighting between the villains, the American fights get very bland, very quickly with all the wirework and back explosions making every fight feel like a copy paste of the last. Also man Miratrix's new haircut is bad. |
ha! i remember thinking thr same thing about her hair.
|
OO 16...although it wasn't a great episode, especially with all the time it wasted on fucking Norg, I just love Ty both morphed and unmorphed. I'd almost forgotten how good sixths could be after watching shows like SPD and Jungle Fury where it isn't even clear what role is what.

There were lots of weird choices in that episode, like naming that Chinese Mallet Mjolnir when it couldn't be further away. |

OO 17. I think a lot of coke was snorted before they wrote and filmed this episode.
And I don't just mean Thor and Loki turning up and the show confirming the existence of ancient God's no one believes in any more in such a nonchalant, shoulder shrug fashion, including letting both God's leave and having no questions about their existence at all, or even the question of 'will you help us?' to the God who just almost destroyed a Megazord with a single attack... But also like...everything else, there was just so much happening here it felt like a whole Boukenger arc had been smashed into one episode, as our heroes fought both of the main villains, a giant magician and then the two Fearcats randomly turn up in the wrap up with a giant robot of their own. |

OO 18. Who the fuck is that dragon guy? Moltar and Flurious were just two humans who were transformed by the Crown, so I like how that translates to http://i.imgflip.com/26am.jpg. Fuck me that dragon was so annoying as well, 'comparse'.
Although I really did love Mack's lucky charm Ranger form. So fucking ridiculous. I swear so many drugs have been consumed these last few episodes. |
I've given up on Wild Force, since I've been procrastinating watching that series like mad, and started up Zeo.
So, you know when I was bitching about Tommy and Co's acting in Turbo being sub-par? Yeah, that seems to be a holdover from Zeo, with poorly delivered lines and no emotion. |

So, onward to Zeo! I'll probably go back and finish it after Zeo or In Space, but I'm not positive just yet. |
years later and wild force is still a top 3 for me
|
That's all good.
For most, the only one fighting Turbo for all time worst is Samurai. It's top 3 for me. We all have different tastes. |
Good god. The acting in Zeo is sinfully bad.
As in, I want to slap whoever called Justin a bad actor if they had the audacity to call Johnny Yong Bosch's or JDF's acting in Zeo "Good." Oh, and Billy's the worst actor of the bunch. Sweet Christmas, this man was originally going to be Red? Did we luck out when he decided to step down to Blue or what? Klank's Scottish accent is still great to listen to, though. OH MY SWEET GOD. THE DELIVERY ON SOME OF THESE LINES...WHAT HAVE I DONE TO DESERVE THIS!? |
Klank is the man. wait what? billy was gonna be red?

And so they gave the role to a print out of some muscles? If I was Yost, id be offended.
