The Ganma will be designed by manga illustrator Kazuhiko Shimamoto, whose resume includes "Kamen Rider ZO" and "Mobile Fighter G Gundam."
|
So much for the Crow concept. Will it be something as cool as Blade & OOO?
|
Well I enjoyed to ZO designs, especially Dora's and the other two, but these might not be as good because there's a lot more suits to make for a 50~ish episode show.

Color me unimpressed with the cast. I'm getting freaking tired of every set of heroes being bishounen. When are we going to start getting some normal looking heroes again? Or give me a main hero that looks like Pierre from Gaim for a change.
|

And what is "normal" looking? |
Quote:
An average Joe that actually looks like an every day person you would see on the street. Not someone who looks like he just walked out of a 6 hour make up session and barely eats. Or hell, maybe someone that looks like he could actually be a super hero for a change. How about having a Steve Rogers instead of a Peter Parker? A 30-ish year old hero instead of someone who is barely legal? Normally I don't care about bishounen, but we haven't had someone that felt like the average person in years. It would be nice to see a change from the norm every once in awhile instead of this safe zone. Hell, Ghost is having a new production team, they should have also gotten a new look for their cast in the process. |

And Peter Parker IS a superhero, so I don't see where you're getting this whole "looks like a superhero" thing from. Peter Parker just has more speed, agility and flexibility than raw strength (even though he is strong). That doesn't make him less of a superhero. You also have to keep in mind that all of these Riders have the same suit actors so the body types have to match up at least somewhat. |
Quote:
I also don't get this bishounen thing, Kouta and Shinnouske both look like normal people. Also Kouta doesn't look like a weakling as he showed several times that he is in particularly good physical shape. Both didn't even dress flamboyantly, Shinnosuke has been just been wearing suits because of his job. |
In fact the only main Riders who dressed even remotely flamboyantly to me were Philip, Eiji and Haruto.
|
Yeah, I was about to say, are actors like Sano Gaku and Takeuchi Ryoma really considered so abnormally bishie? Sure they're handsome, but they're not really what I would consider particularly bishounen. It's television, and they have to consider marketing, so the fact that the protagonists are handsome is only logical. I guess I could understand the complaint if every Rider we got was a Katono Taiko, but they're...not.
Also I don't ever see anyone complain about the fact that all the heroines in KR are pretty. Where my average looking women advocates at, yo. |
I won't go as far as Dr. Kain, but I do prefer the way Shinnosuke looks as the hero over the so called pretty boys that we have seen in the past. Honestly, it's moreso that trendy haircut that most toku actors have nowadays that I'm not a fan of. Doesn't mean much in terms of the show quality, but it does bug me a little.

Also looks also aren't everything when casting is being made. The actor must be able to convey the necessary emotions and have some likability to even be considered. |
Also why would our Riders need to look super muscular anyway? It makes sense that Oren would look a bit bulkier since he was a soldier in the French army, but for the most part, our riders are just the average Japanese teenager/young adult that happened to come across superpowers. And they wouldn't need to be exceptionally muscular considering they're wearing armor that augments their physical capabilities.

Steve Rodgers- Takeshi Hongo Peter Parker- Most modern prettyboy Riders like Shinnosuke, Wataru or Haruto. But yeah, yours and Asakura's points are valid. Most Japanese kids would prefer youthful, fashionable, light-hearted 20-somethings as heroes than tough, utilitarian badass 30-somethings. |

And even the original Riders weren't that old. Takeshi's actor was 25, and Hayato's 24, when they started their roles. Most Riders have been around that age from what I've seen. Shinnosuke's and several other more recent actors have only been a few years younger than that. Actors in their teens like Takeru's are a lot rarer.
(i also laugh at the insinuation that the older riders didn't dress super fashionably, for their time. seriously, have you seen hayato.) |
The whole pretty-boy discussion feels rather weird if you consider that you can't even appear in the background of Marvel-movies if you're not a supermodel, bodybuilder or Stan Lee. These movies push a ridiculous image of how people should look, not Kamen Rider.
And honestly, with Kamen Rider you at least get normal looking humans in support roles. Like with the SPU in Drive, besides Shinnosuke and Kiriko the whole group looks average to normal, or rather not like dolls. You'll always have the "problem" with actors needing to look pretty because their faces end up on the poster and the merchandise. |
Having been to japan just two years ago I gotta say Rider ARE the average joe you want them to be. Just not the average Joe you see in america. Thats what japanese Men in there early to mid 20s.
And the term Bishounen isnt correct when you use it that way. Its meant to describe males in anime and manga. For actual persons you say Ikemen just so you know ;) |
^What Convoy said.
The Ikemen casting isn't even a recent thing anyway. The Showa Kamen Riders mostly were the Ikemen of their time. Most of them were super-attractive when they were cast in their own shows (X, Amazon, Stronger, Skyrider, to name a handful I found really good-looking in their younger years) and they were around the same age and had the same built as most Riders today. Also all of this: Quote:

I mean on the flip side of that, have you noticed that basically every American superhero has roughly the same build? |

I don't mind what the main heroes look like too much. They go with younger looking actors since it's a series for kids 4-12 and they want someone who looks young for them to relate too. It's no different here in the US with live action shows for kids with actors who are 16-25 looking.

Ok, If this is true then I love the design of Ghost even more. The horn is a horn but isn't a horn. Sounds weird, but here is a quote from the person behind the Ghostly News site, the site I've gotten most of the new shots of Ghost from. The owner of the site was asked if there was a reason behind the horn, and this is the answer.
"There’s speculation that its supposed to be the tail of a hitodama rather than a horn. Basically Ghost’s head is a giant hitodama." Which kind of makes sense... http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-zhGtK2eKsS...ter+humano.jpg Now this is all speculation, but it fits the look and motif. |

But yeah, it fits with the "I'm a ghost Kamen Rider!" theme. |
So does anyone know when the shift NEXT drive toy set with Eyecon is going to be shipping out?

Here's something cool by way of JeFusion: http://www.jefusion.com/2015/08/kame...ime-video.html
Video of our soon to be young hero: Shun Nishime who will play Takeru Tenkuuji/Kamen Rider Ghost. Have to say I like him and at 17 he has to one of the youngest actors to lead a rider series. |
