Sorry to hear that, I hope you find a new job soon. |
Graaaaaah! I just finished Agito!
Rant on. Damn you Hoooooooojoooooo! I can't believe he squeaked through without at least getting punched or kicked in the junk again. I've never been more appreciative of the old vintage Hollywood standard where villains always got their comeuppance. So dissatisfied with that slimy bastard just carrying on. Rant off. With the above exception, I enjoyed the series quite a bit. I haven't watched the movies yet. I'll probably get to that this weekend and, as I'm planning on watching things in order until I get bored, then move on to Ryuki. |
Kamen Rider Faiz Episode 1
So that was dark and depressing. Umm..wow. Honestly one of the stronger starts to a season I think, had me hooked from the get go. The show looks fantastic, I like its sense of style, I've always kinda dug the Faiz suit and the orphenocs look pretty badass too. And I gotta say, what a twist! The entire time I was watching I was wondering how these two stories would meet up, how Yuuji was going to end up with the belt and become Faiz. He was built up so sympathetically, that introductory sequence after the opening, with the car wreck..damn. But yeah, I was fully expecting him to end up with the belt and..he ends up being one of the bad guys, did not see that coming at all. I'm sure if I had known ahead of time who actually was the rider, like I'm sure most people did when first watching the series, either back when it first aired or now, that I probably would have had a different reaction, but I really didn't know much of anything before jumping into the show so it was a total shock to me. Not a whole lot else to say. Faiz has a pretty decent henshin sequence, I like the driver, the fight scene was pretty solid too, and I loved that first rider kick. It was just a little tap, and the orphenoc's reaction added just the right amount of humor to what was otherwise a pretty melo-dramatic and dark episode. Looking forward to seeing what the show has to offer. |

W 40.
I guess they at least tried to make some context for this filming nonsense, and maybe because I'm watching it alongside Faiz, I found this super fun. There are lots of disappointments though. The whole levels thing was part of what ultimately killed Nazca, so to see Saeko achieve level three immediately was thrilling but it turns out level three just makes it...red? So much build up, for that? There seems no significant new power at all, this just feels shoehorned in here. Especially so as she basically came back into the show to show off how powerful Clay Doll Xtreme was, it was even more disappointing. Speaking of Clay Doll Xtreme, an absolutely awful suit grows into somehow an even worse one. Disgusting. |
Faiz 04 - now with more spoiler tags! Which are a real pain in the ass, to be honest with you, why don't we have a button for this?
Anyway, for a show so unrelenting brutal and dark - to the shows detriment honestly - it's amazing just how much fun this show has with its own concepts. From seeing two Orphenoch's working together to Faiz dropping into enemy hands, quite literally - I'm pretty sure I also have already had this twist spoiled for me, when I looked up Faiz toys. Only Orphenoch's can use the belt, right? to "Hurry and Change!" in reference to changing into your gym clothes, being a catalyst for a girl to transform into an Orphenoch and start a massacre to the fact that Faiz's bike is a fucking transformer!. The second half of this episode was just wonderful, it's a real shame then, that the first half is so bad. It wasn't even bad, so much as meandering. Faiz has this weird tendency to let unnecessary scenes play out, while having the most important ones clipped to the point of near meaninglessness. We really didn't need an almost ten minute scene of Takumi, Mari and dry cleaning dude sat in the park insulting one another. None of the characters know one another so we came out of this scene learning nothing, everything crucial characterwise also happens in the stronger second half of the episode. Plus the sort of back up story of Yuka and her sister falls flat, because Yuka's sister, and subsequently her parents, are such complete and utter bastards that it feels like we've fallen into cartoonworld and all the intended poignancy of the drama is lost. I'm actually not sure how I feel about the Orphenoch's any more either. I know it's only been four episodes and I was just praising them but I dunno when you see multiple Orphenoch's standing side by side, you start to realise how boring the all grey design is. |
W 41.
Really, we're gonna keep padding these episodes with unnecessary sub stories that have no bearing on anything that actually matters? God this is gonna be a long climax, and not in the good way. Even Saeko flailing her sexy legs in the bathroom, and the fight with Accel that it leads into, couldn't stop this episode being as boring as it is throwaway. I can't wait til W gets this out of its system so we can get to a good wrap up. |
Agito 47-It was nice to see an episode that just focused on Shouichi and Ryou during a peaceful time with them getting jobs and focusing on more than just fighting. Intrigued with the Man of Darkness and his plan now. Only a few more episodes left. Also I'm not sure if Kino died or not but it sounds like he did, which would suck because he was a very good character who actually managed to get to his potential if he is gone.

I hope that reveal isn't like the crux of the show, or I've just ruined the whole point of watching for myself haha.
I get what they are doing with the drama but without a shade of nuance it stops feeling real and I find it hard to engage with. Yeah the designs are awesome but the colours make them look unfinished. Edit: oh shit, need to find where the movie comes in. |

Faiz 25-33
25 really felt like the end of an arc with finding out about Mari's dad being an orphnoch and living in the school underneath Smart Brain. Although it did go Ryuki for a moment with the dad saying Fight to Kusaka and then the mirror noise when the Orphenoch showed up. Oh hey Delta. Although I hate it went to the fucking annoying kid with the Jewfro. Seriously, I hate this fucker, he's the most one off stereotypical strong villains I've ever seen. I like the fact that the one Lucky Clover guy is super scared of him because of his turning things to dust powers and the fact that Delta fucked him up earlier. I swear to god half of the plot of the show happens because of either miscommunication or coincidence. I like the fact that Kusaka is manipulating people to do his his will but it could have been done in a smarter way. I liked the Sawada arc but I felt like it was twisting and turning for no reason in order to make it "shocking" that Sawada gave up his humanity. Kusaka has all three belts? He should be happy then right? oh wait... no..... he's still being a dick. I think the show has been going in circles for the past 10-15 episodes with the "Let's steal the belts" plan, nothing has really happened in terms of the power shift until Jewfro kid here gave away his Delta belt. granted, a lot of the characters developed more and we learn more about the world but nothing really.. happened. That lucky clover chick is still here, even into the 30's and that's kind of bad/odd. Also the subs went to shit once 33 hit. People like to make fun of TV Nihon for their too literal translations. These subs are the shit people are talking about with too literal. I tried to get into 34 but the subs and video quality were not worth watching the episodes. So if anyone can link me to some good TV-N or any other good subs I'll be set for the final stretch. |
Kamen Rider Faiz Episode 1
That was some Resident Evil/Dead Space like shit in the beginning. Or is it just me that thinks that? Awwwwwwwwwwwwwww, what a cute couple. And what a cute/heart warming moment there with the parents. They're going to die aren't they? Called it. So he came back as a zombie? Okay then. Is this girl Goku or something? She's putting away food like that *snaps fingers*. She's also quite the noisy eater too. And she seems a bit rude if that's the word to use. Yuuji is having quite the bad day. He comes back not fully right, his home is gone, and his uncle sold the company and house. Seriously that is a shitty way to come back from a coma and the dead. Ouch! That's a nasty way to go, having your heart sucked up by tentacles. The monster is pretty cool looking too while I'm on the subject. I also like this girl. She's a tad rudeish, but she's kind of has a certain charm to her. Boy Yuuji's day keeps getting worse. It's a trap! Huh, so the belt can only work with somebody who can bring out it's power. That's a new one to me. It's actually a pretty nice concept that only certain types of people can fully unlock/harness the power of the driver. So kudos to you writers for coming up with a pretty cool concept. What the hell is that thing? A demonic mermaid? Okay that is one cool as hell effect with the rain. Also first we have a demonic mermaid, now a demonic horse? What's next? A demonic chihuahua? Very nice transformation effect with him turning into a running horse/centaur though. Flawless victory! Yuuji wins! FATALITY! Wait what? He kicks him in the area where a belt would be and he turns to sand? What up with that? So this is Faiz huh? Well not much to say other then, alright. What we got in the episode was decent enough. Though it didn't really do a whole heck of a lot outside of introduce Faiz and some of the main characters of the show. It didn't really set up the plot outside of as I said Faiz, and kinda just moved along. It was mostly about Yuuji's one bad day more then anything. And unless Yuuji turns out to be one of the big main characters of the show, then really the episode accomplished nothing from a story perspective. I like the henshin sequence with the whole lights rising around him thing. But....I kinda dislike the suit, or to be more specific the helmet. The suit itself is pretty nice looking and standard for that era of Kamen Rider. But the helmet just says "Nope" to me. I think the eyes are a little to big with not enough breaking up of them. I know that sounds weird to all hell, but I don't really know how else to explain it. I'm digging the music quite a bit. It reminds me of the music in Ryuki quite a bit with how techno it is. I don't know why but it seems like I can enjoy techno like music when it's in Kamen Rider. I guess because it isn't drawn out and gives me something pleasant to look at it while I'm listening to it. But I digress. I do like this English narration during the previews, if anything just for the way the guy sounds. So for my first viewing of Faiz, all I have to say is that I'm not really eager about anything. The first episode doesn't have to dump everything on you, but having it be about virtually nothing outside of one character who I'm assuming won't appear that much doesn't really hook the viewer in. The episode was rather dull in my opinion. Comparing it to the other first episodes I've seen, it's probably the weakest as it doesn't have me eager to move onto the next episode to see what happens, which is a bad thing. I guess I'll carry through with my first 5 episodes rule, but honestly at the moment, Faiz is boring me. I hope the next four episodes can change my mind. |

Just finished Episode 2 of Faiz.
Continuing off what I felt to be a fairly strong start, episode 2 continued to deliver. I really like the mood and tone of this season. I know I've seen people give it crap for being too melodramatic, dark for the sake of dark and all that, but at least what we've had up to this point actually kinda works. Show has some fantastic music as well. Characters definitely need to develop a bit more, I mean honestly at this point I care more about Yuji and feel more sorry for him (to an extent) than I actually care about the good guys. Chie was a complete bitch, don't wanna say she deserved what happened but man...The fight scenes have been great as well, and I love how techy Faiz and his powers seem to be. We're not really getting much in the way of story just yet, but I am rather curious how Smart Brain seems connected both to the orphenoc's and Faiz. Speaking of, Smart Brain chick is hot, especially in that outfit with the thigh high boots....mmmmm. The show is really nicely shot too, some beautiful and disturbing imagery. I really liked the scene with Yuji on the roof, sad and beautiful. |
I finished the two Agito films I have. (Yay! Ryo served an awesome purpose by punching Hojo!) Too bad it's all over. I enjoyed the series.
Now it's time to start Ryuki. |

I am going to use DDLS from TV nihon from episode 37 on out so I no longer have to deal with shitty video quality on youtube. Yay! Faiz 32-36 Takumi's an Orphnoch? I don't see why of the characters have....a...pro..blem....with....it........ Did Wolf Orphnoch kill Mari? HOLY SHIT. Although the story has gone back to being mopy. And hey, Delta is in the hands of a good guy now. YAY! |
It's funny because Winston is basically the opposite of me and NGW. Im not used to fitting in!

Faiz Episode 2
So since we have one this episode, I figure I'll get my discussion about the opening done right away. I like the song. The opening part though is a misleading to me as it sounds like this kinda happy poppy like anime theme. But once the verse starts, the song gets really kick ass in my opinion. Like I commented in my episode 1 watch, the music sounds a lot like the stuff in Ryuki, and the OP theme is no exception. It has quite a bit of similarities to Alive A Life both instrumentally and to a degree vocally. The accompanying video is pretty nice as well. I guess Yuji is a main character since he's in a good chunk of the video, so it turns out his focus in episode 1 was at least somewhat justified. Though I still think episode 1 is rather dull and lacking in overall story focus. But I digress. With the theme and video out of the way, onto the episode. I find it kinda funny how Takumi becomes a rider. He simply got mixed up in the situation while looking for his bag. I don't know but it's pretty humorous to me that our protagonist becomes the protagonist by purely random circumstances. Sort of a wrong place at the wrong time kind of deal. Mari seems like a nice girl. It's weird seeing her so open now when last episode she was playing the hard ass role of being quiet, unfriendly, and not very talkative. Now the roles are switched. She seems like a nice person whose simply confused about what is going on. Takumi's reaction is understandable. Japanese people (and people all over the world as a whole) tend to not get involved with things that they don't know about and could care less about. So it makes sense that he wouldn't want to be dragged into Mari's situation with the belt and being a Kamen Rider. He simply wants to move on from it. I'm curious as well to how Yuji became what he is. I do see that Faiz is uh, not very subtle with some stuff as I just saw with Yuji and what not. The people's reactions were odd as well, it was delayed which I guess is reasonable since it just happened out of the blue. But I think somebody would have started screaming and panicking immediately. Oh and from that height he fell from, how is Yuji's head not in fucking pieces? Mari is pretty annoying and Takumi (at the moment) comes off as a bit of a jerk with his whole "Don't drag me into it" and "Don't bind me" attitude. Hopefully they don't stay this way for the whole series. Well, hopefully Takumi doesn't. Okay Yuji's mansion is freaking cool looking from the inside. I see that we finally have a term for our evil doers: Orphenoch. So they are beings that surpass humans. Okay but how do you become one? Are you just born into being an Orphenoch or do you become one later on? Who the heck is this girl anyways? I get that she works for the corporation, but still who exactly is she? So he travels because he has no dreams? How did he come to that decision? XD The all powerful belt that turns the user into a super powered being ended up in a pawn shop. Oh lordy is that hilarious. Oh and I love how Mari is like "It was stolen from me so please give it back." Like the guy is really going to just give it up. So they're going to raise the money by giving out haircuts on the street? Makes sense. I guess. Chie is an utter bitch I see. She was probably bullshitting Yuji before the cops showed up, and now she's accusing him of being the killer. Okay we as the audience know he did do it, but she doesn't know. And the cops would have no reason to suspect him even if they became informed about this weird relationship between Yuji and Chie. So Chie you my dear are a complete lying bitch. Honestly though, I feel bad for Yuji. He had his whole life ahead of him. Great parents, a good looking future, and a girl who at the time was great. But then his accident happened and everything changed. His parents died, he lost everything, and Chie got with somebody else and accused him of murder. Yuji has lost everything near and dear to him. And on top of it all, he now has powers he doesn't really understand. He could have been a Crow avatar if this was taking place within the universe of that franchise with all that has happened to him. He's truly an example of coming back from the dead to a world that has seemingly forgot about him and moved on. It's really tragic. It's the elephant man! Thank you for smoking this bitch Yuji. The horse/centaur effect still looks really good. I still think the slowed down rain effect in episode is the best in the show so far, but the effects all around look to be pretty darn good. Pretty shocking that they hold up form being from 2003. And damn did they get awesome! That thing is freaking huge! It looks good too. Though it does look a little shabby. But that could just be how I think it looks. Mari you are a dumb ass for hiding in the van. Like the giant elephant was really just going to run pass it and not notice you climbing into it. Seriously, that may be one of the dumbest things I have ever seen in Kamen Rider. It's as silly as Indiana Jones going into a fridge. That is one kick ass Rider Kick. Well it seems as if Yuji has gone to the dark side. I know I said I love the narrator's voice in my episode 1 review, but can I just say that the tagline is plain awesome. "Open your eyez for the next Faiz." Genius. So episode 2 was much better then episode 1. It was quite the exciting and gripping episode. I never felt bored while watching it, which is a good thing right off the back. The story was driven more here then in the first episode, as this one pretty much revealed the plot. Takumi is a reluctant hero who has to fight Orphenoch's. All episode 1 did was set up Yuji's fall into becoming a villain. Now while devoting an episode to do that isn't a bad thing, it's a bad thing to do for your first episode. The first episode should focus on setting EVERYTHING up, not just one part. The fighting here was pretty good, and the end to the fight was much better then the one kick to the mid section that we got in the last episode. The effects were still good, the story moved along nicely, the acting was pretty good. All around, episode 2 was much better then episode 1. I actually look forward to episode 3 now with what I'll call glee for lack of a better word, whereas episode 1 left me rather bored and not very excited to see the story continue. So far, somewhat good. Bit of a boring start but hopefully things start picking up now. |

Just finished episode 3 of Faiz. I expect to say this a lot. Wow that was dark and depressing. And the dude Mari spent the rpusode with reminds me of the gates in Wizard, maybe Haruto should step in before he falls into despair. Nice seeing some new tech from Faiz as well. Fight was a bit on the short side though. And this looks to be our first storyline that goes beyond just one episode. And we got more of dat sexy Smart Brain girl. Curious to see where all this is heading. Especially since we seem to get a better idea of how one becomes an orphenoc. I do wish that Yuji coming to just accept what has happened to him and becoming a bad guy was drawn out a bit more, make him gradually come to terms with what he is and wgat he's done and then give him a big moment where he accepts that he isa villain. |
Faiz 37 and 38.
So Takumi didn't kill Mari but that Magnugiga look-alike orphenoch did? Okay, don't know how's he's gonna convince everyone one of that but okay. The best LOL part of these episodes was when Mihara tried to transform into Delta in order to protect Takumi from Murakami's Orpnoch for and he got pushed out of the way. We're coming up to the end of an arc and I've been wondering where the hell Faiz Blaster was gonna show up but he shows up next episode according to the previews. |
Faiz Episode 3
Oh my God Chie is Jason! Quick, get Corey Feldman, he'll take care of her! How come everybody who dies turns into sand though? Are they Imagin or something? I guess I'm adding this to my list of things that need to be explained. :lol Mari trying to pull a fast one on Takumi. I think I have my favorite character for the moment. Oh, and all her weird statements about him being too close and too far, funny as all hell. Seriously this girl is pretty cool. Hmmm, so let me see. We have a girl who does phenomenally well at school, praised by her teacher, and loved by her parents. And she has a sister who apparently does not do well in school and get praise from the parents. Gee, I wonder if anything will come back to this. Okay how long until Michiko gets her ass handed to her? Serious I can see it happening from a mile away. The setup is there for Yuka to get her revenge on her. Now it's just a matter of pulling the trigger. D'awwwww, and she has a boyfriend as well. This episode couldn't hide it's happenings even in the dark of night. Serious Faiz I can figure out what's about to happen just by these last three scenes. I know Kamen Rider isn't that subtle with stories, but come on! Even W would show you the villain but still keep you guessing. You're just screaming what is going to happen. Caught red handed Mari! Takumi so far seems like the most unenergetic rider I think I've seen. It seems like he could care less about being a rider, the belt, the Orphenochs, or anything else for that matter. He doesn't seem to have any interests or dreams. He's just kinda, happening. I know the belt works with him, but is Mari sure she picked the right guy to become Faiz? Laundry delivery? That's a thing? They will take your clothing, clean it, and then deliver it to you? Okay Japan you just got even awesomer. Come on, that's pretty cool, you gotta admit that. That is a very good and legitimate question. How did a school end up that deep underground? Did somebody kick it down there or something? Did it sink? What the hell happened? Keitaro seems like a pretty fly guy. He wants everybody to be happy, is willing to do favors for them, including paying for those favors himself. He's a really nice guy who seems like he would do anything to help bring joy to a person's life. He should be the Kamen Rider, not dicky old Takumi. Okay when is Yuka getting revenge? Seriously if she doesn't get some sort of justice for all of the shit I've seen her put through I'm going to be an angry panda. She at least deserves something good to happen to her, and hopefully something bad to those utter bitches who are bullying her, not to mention her parents. She just doesn't deserve to get treated this way. Period. Keitaro you are having some bad luck my friend. Then again it could be worse. You could be Yuka. Or Yuji. While I'm here, can I just say that I find it utterly weird that Takumi has to build the belt? I mean it's one thing to insert a card deck, cellphone, pass, memory, or another object into a belt to activate it's powers. But having to build it? That's a little too much. Hell if you gave it to a newbie, he could be dead before he even henshins. Seriously why the hell did they decide to make the built buildable? It seems like something that as I said, could get you killed. That was quite the nonchalant attack there Takumi. How's he know how to do this stuff though? I noticed that there was a manual in the belt box. Did he read it at some point and just memorized everything? Or should I not think about the how and just go along with it? Toku makes your brain hurt sometimes. I see we have another Orphenoch. So this episode was fairly nice. It had a nice contained story which seems to be followed up in the next episode, so all good there. Didn't really help develop Mari or Takumi, which is kinda sad that we didn't get at least a smudge of development. Though I guess we could say there was some in that we saw how Mari is a bit of a trickster to get her way. Like the first episode, it seems like everybody but our main hero was the focus on the episode. I mean it's nice that they developed the Keitaro and Yuka story and put time on it. But it seems like there should have been some focus on Takumi and Mari outside of the brief moments they had in the episode, with Takumi having very little to do. So in the end, episode 3 was still better then 1, but not as good as 2. However it was not boring, and with it ending on a cliffhanger I'm definitely curious to see how the next episode unfolds. So yeah, guess I'm going to keep watching it. Oh and by the way, is it just me or does Takumi look like Shinji? |

Oh don't get me wrong, I think they belts and weapons look kick ass. It's just I find the whole building aspect strange from a combat point of view.
|
I don't have a problem with the building, I have a problem with Mari attaching the Exceed Charge thing and Takumi going 'dafook' to the next episode where he starts pulling weapons out of the wazoo and seems to have mastered all of them.
|
Yeah that is a pretty big issue. I mean if she had to tell him how to get the weapons out and he just remembered from that point onwards, it would all be cool. But he just seems to know automatically now what to do. As I speculated, did he read the manual or something?
|
Faiz 05. Turns out Takumi is a good guy.
There was a lot of good stuff this episode, I like how they made the Smart Brain capitol building feel like their actual building, rather than just hastily putting up a few signs in what is obviously a blend between a totally unrelated building and some interior sets. Plus this episode seemed to have at a much better pace than last weeks, as within the first ten minutes we'd had multiple twists, new information about the Orphenoch's and the police are investigating the massacre from last week. Ironically, this week, it was the second half of the episode that went down the crapper. Didn't Takumi just declare his allegiance last episode? So why is this whole sub-arc about getting a ticket and needing to work part time, here? It's like that stupid hairdressing scene. Toda looks ridiculous - I mean seriously, is he the Pope Orphenoch or something? And what is he armed with, a closed parasol? - I guess he's a friend of the Penguin. And I really hate how every villain so far has died in the episode they were introduced. I did like the fact that Takumi can't just pull the Driver out of his ass though, like all the other Riders, it actually had to be delivered to him. |
