Update
Power Rangers Beast Morphers Series I (Episode 18) Dino Fury Series II (Episode 02) Zen is out for my set so I'll grab it this month. When I finish end of the month grocery shopping. Bring on Series 45. |
I've worked my way through 31 episodes of Gaoranger now, and this seemed like a good time to update my thought on the show as a whole. The most recent episode was definitely a big shock value one, what with 4 of the Gaorangers and their Power Animals getting unceremoniously offed by the powered up Ura. I won't lie though, part of me was hoping the show was going to go in a really crazy direction and have Red use his new bird gun to temporarily resurrect his friends as ghostly warriors whenever he got in a fight, as opposed to just flat out reviving them. Part of me still isn't convinced they were revived for real. Anyways, the show still isn't particularly resonating with me. As a whole, episodes have been leaning more and more into a more humorous tone lately, but unlike Carranger I'm not finding that the humor gets better as it goes along. The characters are awfully flat feeling, so it can be hard for me to feel too invested in any of them too. I think there are a lot of good ideas in this show that simply aren't realized as effectively as they could be. I'm hoping the show picks up as it moves into its endgame!

I have Netflix active so finishing all new episodes of Power Rangers.

Through bad internet days, difficult times in life, physical burnout, and scouring through many ways, I've finally, FINALLY, finished Kikai Sentai Zenkaiger!
I will agree, perhaps not the greatest finale ever, but for Zenkaiger, it was a great way to end it off, and I honestly can't find much to say here other than I loved it. From start to finish, even considering rewatching the whole series, I would have loved it if this show was 100 episodes, since I just enjoyed tuning in every week (at least when I could) to this show. It may not have had any intricate or well-developed plot and was simply a chaotic monster-of-the-week formula, but I loved it, even when the story didn't really progress. Would I have loved it more if it did? Absolutely. But what we got, is good enough for me. If this gets officially released here, I will absolutely own it, and will 1000% say that this is one of my favorite shows of all time. Do I plan to watch DonBrothers? I was actually holding off since I wanted to finish Zenkaiger first, even though it took way longer than I expected, I will watch some of DonBros. to see how it goes, or if the CG becomes too stale, or the story doesn't interest me (which I'm still loving what I'm seeing). Expect me to pop in with a possibly lengthy review of DonBrothers' episodes so far. But really, I'm going to miss Zenkaiger. I want to do art of the cast, and will definitely watch the movies if I find them (Sempaiger already sounds hilarious). But for now, I'll leave this off with the iconic catchphrase: "Sekai Zenkai! All okay!" |
I'll watch Zen after I complete Kira as the set is now released. Usually I hang back a year so I have a non stop run of new episodes to watch. I'm watching Lu Pat presently as well having closed out Ryu. Zen includes the All Red Ranger movie and Zen Vs Saber.
In my case Kyo Ryu - Zen is non stop new episodes. Dang. |

Kira
Episode 11 Episode 10 wasn't your normal crowd hypno controle episode. Hardly anybody was in the room except for the Rangers. They just got trance controled over the net. The last crowd hypno episode I saw was Mystic Force - The Stranger Within Parts 1 and 2. Given week 10 are all episodes going to be just the Rangers and not many crowd casualties like we're used to seeing? Even Dino Fury managed to retain crowd chaos during a Ranger fight. |
Kiramager was produced during the height of the COVID-19 crisis and the start of the lockdown, so like its contemporary Kamen Rider Zero-One you see a lot of the results of that in the finished product -- a lot less background extras, and when they do start leaking in later many of them are wearing facemasks
|
Thanks for clearing that up. Plot wise I like it so far.
|
I’m slowly but surely making my way through Maskman and I just finished its 17th episode.
|
I seriously hate the Zen helmets. Ugly. Enough with the bug head already. Usually that's a Rider thing. The Rangers had to pull that at least once. Gross.

Well, I've finally hauled myself through the entirety of Gaoranger. My fine friends of Tokunation dot com, I did not like this one at all! It is kind of hard to articulate what exactly went wrong with this show, since it was one of those things where lots of small things added up. The heroes fell completely flat for me, like this is genuinely the first Sentai I've seen where I was completely uninvested in the entire team of Rangers. Personalities were flat, their interactions uninteresting, and it never felt like they were written consistently. Tetomu was pretty good? I was weirdly into Tsue Tsue and Yabaiba, to the point where I was cheering for them over the protagonists! I also think that tonally, the show was not working for me. I get that it was angling for a more humorous show, but it felt like the humor only landed for me about 10% of the time, and the show would sometimes whiplash hard into drama in a way that never really functioned. Heck, even on a more technical level, the story structure just never panned out. Individual episodes were often simply not that good and the story in general seemed to run on a whole lot of "things are happening for incomprehensible reasons". Ugh, I just wasn't a fan at all. At least the suits were cool. This is my first Sentai that I'll put in my D tier, it was bad, but not quite bad enough to offend me and get banished to F like Jetman. I think I've had enough Sentai for a bit, I'm considering trying out my first Metal Hero show next!

Order placed for Zen Kai Ranger today. The deal with the subbing is it's close to the subbing from Shout Factory.
Bouken Episode 43 The Rangers had just defeated the Questers and recovered a relic. |

Well, for the most part, people go with the same ones kissasian uses, though there are exceptions, which I’ll list.
Gorenger: Rampage subs Battle Fever J: Bernadadelta (kissasian uses a group called Love and Care subs, which is a decidedly inaccurate name, given their quality) Goggle V: Metallic Fansubs (kissasian uses a group called Quick and Dirty Subs, who admit that their work is a mix of a foreign dub, Google translate and just plain good storytelling) Changeman: There isn’t really a group who’ve done every episode, so you may have to mix and match. Liveman: GUIS (While kissasian uses them, it’s an older version using vhs rips) Magiranger: tinyhenshin (kissasian uses TV-N) Gekiranger: Earthly-GS or TV-N (kissasian uses an unknown group who translate literally everything. Even the name “Gekiranger” becomes “Wildranger”) After that, it entirely depends on your preference between TV-N or OT (except for Zenkaiger, where, unless you were actively getting TV-N’s subs of the first few episodes off their site, your only option is OT) |
I started Zen today.
I half expected them to pull a reverse Transformers on us and have the Rangers become Zords. I like it otherwise. |

I've been craving Sentai after having dropped Kiramager at some point Yodonna was introduced and I need some massive cheering up in my life so I just finished Akibaranger, very fun but I also decided to watch Zenkaiger as it looked pretty seeet and uhhhh holy shit? Zenkaiger lived up to the expectations I got from it on twitter, absolutely loved the first episode
|
I'm watching Kira and Zen to stay current. This year was the actual 45th so it was perfect timing to start Zen.
|
Ah, Sentai's 45th anniversary was actually 2020; as Goranger's first episode was April 1975. You might be thinking of how its last dozen or so episodes aired in 1977, or that JAKQ aired in 1977
|
I watched up to episode 25 and goddamn, Zenkaiger truly delivers to the absolute insanity Zenkaiger gets hyped up as. Episode 18 is easily one of my favourite episodes with being one of the only times I liked romance in Sentai, I found myself constantly laughing at everything with the mech fight having me nearly cry laughin after barely recoving to the Jetman parody.. 24 was also amazing with the joy of a more... Slice of life Sentai episode than usual, having most of the episode completely ignore the entire invasion aspect that kickstarted the plot. I also have to say, Zenkaiju Oh is an amazing mech, though I think that's cause I see a bit of Q Rex inspiration and I loved Time Force. I cannot wait for my next opportunity to watch more of this truly blessed show

Still agree. Wild and fun combination. |
"Is that a JoJo reference!?" Sorry, needed to get the obligatory response out.
So, I went as far as my internet was going to let me go today to watch three, yes 3, episodes of Avataro Sentai DonBrothers! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VKMw2it8dQY First off, yes, I know I'm late, there's a new mech out (or is that too early), everything I say will probably be overturned by now, but I only just found time to get around to this, so let's get cracking! Now, I knew this was going to be breaking the Sentai formula, but it went greater lengths to convey that, and I love them for that. The aesthetic is perfect, the olde Japanese, the visuals, the Kabuki style thrown into Don Momotaro's fighting style, is just plain wonderful. He only appeared at the end of episode 1, and I already love him, bringing out a festival, complete with dancers, a stage, a fan, flower petals, and banners, and the aforementioned Kabuki are such a delight to watch. I guess I can relate to Oni Sister, being that one of my biggest fears is creating something that's already been done and would therefore be plagiarizing, that and just extremely bad luck. It's an interesting angle for a Sentai, where usually the Red is the main focus or character we start the show with (of course, we already had his Momotaro entrance at the beginning, so...), but the whole feel of the show feels early Heisei, Showa, and Reiwa mixed together. I know the writer did a majority of the early Heisei Rider shows, and I can definitely see that, especially since it felt like a Rider show at first. Insert Spiderwick reference here. I love the whole unseen world concept going on here, which works great for the "mech" fights, reminding me immensely of Gridman, but CG, which works best in this light. Kiji Brother's CG isn't too bad, glad that there's more that can be done with practical effects for him, while Inu Brother unfortunately has the weakest, it's slightly better than the trailers, but still feels out of place, and that's not for his design. Overall, it's not a show breaker for me, but it's not great, which is more than I was expecting from a CGI heavy season. I've already said I liked the Villains' designs, very early Heisei. But for them individually, blueman (I'll hopefully remember the names) definitely feels like someone you'd see in a Heisei Phase 1 Rider Season, serious, edgy, and one for talking fancy as he trash talks people, and I enjoyed how he debuted as a "hero" before revealing his true colors, definitely my favorite design. Spears reminds me of Slash from Saber, and Kamen Rider Aqua, reminds me of Gridon, design wise, while Creepy chick has a very Carmearra/Camilla vibe, but the personality of your usual looks-cute-but-will-absolutely-stab-you-in-the-middle-of-numerous-wandering-eyes kind of character. I'm really curious to see what Goth Kaito (most likely an alternate version of him) has in store and what he's planning, but everything these three episdoes has shown much promise, and it's one wild ride that I'm enjoying and look forward to see what follows. Until then, I'll be playing catchup before the show leaves me in the dust and I inevitably decide it's not worth it, when it looks as though it will. |
I have now seen 45 episodes total of Zenkaiger and man this show just keeps getting better, Hakaizer's been one of the most fun enemies I can think of and every new spin on the roll call keeps leaving me with pure joy. I'm gonna miss this show when I'm done though after that I've got Magiranger, Shinkenger and Liveman to try out so I'm gonna have a blast

Zyuranger.
Also, do not look up Zyuranger on Miraheze, the season is on one of the most biased wikis (or in generals, one of the most biased types of wikis) which I will not be naming. |

Well, here I am. Caught up with DonBrothers! Kinda. Haven't seen Episode 14 yet.
But so far, I'd say this definitely feels more like a Rider show than a Sentai show, and that's not bad at all. It's honestly nice to see Sentai get powerups this early, because my gosh, the Robotaro forms are great, and Don OniTaijin looks amazing, even has one of the best Gattai sequences (as far as I've seen). This show definitely breaks the Sentai mold in many ways, possibly even making fun of Sentai tropes in a more roundabout way than Zenkaiger. The CG isn't great, but it doesn't overstay it's welcome, so it's not unbearable to watch (to be perfectly frank, I don't have too much problem with overdosing of CG), and the villain setup is interesting, very curious to see how this series goes. And did I mention how flashy this show is? Because it's just so good! And the catchy sounds for things like the "Momotaro zan! Momotaro zan!" are really fun. I know I put this off longer than I should have, and I do kind of regret it, but I was trying to find the finale to Zenkaiger (gosh, that was annoying), but from here on out, I'll be (hopefully) keeping up with the show, since it's really been fun to watch. |
I'm decided to watch all the super sentai series. Now I'm watching Goranger . Kiranger is my favorite . So funny . Kaijo Tsuyoshi is Amazing Red. the chemical between the team is the best part of the show . Incredible songs sounds like Elvis to me. Momoranger is a brave hero and so important in missions. I l ike this. Villains are are funny, creative and dangerous at the same time. Great season to me.

Just finished Twokai vs Gokai. Was a'ight. I liked that they actually used the Gokaiger's morphing sequence for Flint. A little cherry on top would've been if she actually kept the Gokai buckle as well.
Speaking of, I never realized how sick her gun is. Quad barreled revolver? Hell yeah :lol Anyway, special wasn't anything special. Silly premise that should've focused more on Flint and Ahim than Zox and Marvelous. |
Hey guys, I need your help. Should I watch Twokaizer VS Gokaiger now, or wait until Zenkaiger VS Kiramager VS Sempaiger gets subbed?
|
It doesn’t really require you to have watched the VS movie. The closest link is a flashback with no dialogue.
|
Thanks. That's good to know.
|
Just watched the Twokaiger x Gokaiger special. It had some fun moments for sure, and it was nice to see the Goldtweakers again, but... I kinda really wish the premise of this whole outing wasn't what it was. n_n;;; It being a TTFC special, I suppose this is it's way of being more 'adult' in lieu of the usual approach of just having a lot of blood, but I surely still could have done without!

Up to episode 12 of my Boukenger re-watch and I got to say, it might be thanks to the different English subtitles I’m watching the series on but I find Boukenger to be much more enjoyable than the first time I went through it.
