Ever since Bayformers made millions of dollars, it's hard to be an out and out Tranformers fan since everyone who hears it thinks of Bayformers and I get the looks of "So you're the reason why movies are bad now." |
I'm pretty open about my geekiness. My facebook is full of posts about comic books, anime, and video games. I also post my cosplay pics and stuff like that. I usually only mention super sentai and kamen rider to people who may seem interested in it. Not because I'm hiding it, but I wouldn't try to talk about Batman with somebody who's not interested in Batman, so why would something like Kamen Rider be any different? My close friends all know I'm into it, and I've watched it with them sometimes. A couple of people have shown interest in watching it, a couple of people are just like "oh cool." Some are more like "i'll stick with power rangers" and finally a couple don't really have any opinion on it. I got into toku while dating my ex, and she kind of experienced it with me, but her opinion varied. For some reason she was way more supportive of my interest in Kamen Rider than in my interest in anything else - she made fun of me when I watched Sentai, but bought me Kamen Rider Battride War for Christmas. I didn't get it, but whatever. That's all over now.
Lately all of the friends I've been making are just as much of a geek as I am, so they understand being part of a fandom that is usually seen as weird. One of my friends even watched part of Ghost with me and now wants me to give her all of the episodes I have downloaded. I think I even may have her convinced to cosplay Alain haha. Another friend I met recently is actually into Power Rangers and Sentai. It's always cool meeting other members of the fandom. But even with non-geek friends, I never hide it. I have a Power Rangers shirt, a Kamen Rider shirt, and two Godzilla shirts (in addition to a ton of Batman, Avengers, and anime shirts) that I wear quite often. Generally, if somebody judges another for being into that kind of stuff, then I'm not going to get along with them anyways - geek interests are a big part of who I am. If they ARE into it, well I gotta let the geek flag fly so I can find others somehow. |
Re: The girlfriend finding out about tokusatsu
Yeah, that was never a problem with me? My ex-girlfriends was an actual adult and decent human being so she didn't care what I watched as it has no impact on who I am as a person. She's also sat down and watched a few shows with me, so that was cool. In general I don't really hide it though. I'm a Japanese major in college, so I'm always around anime fans and they don't really care. Quote:

Wristwear, phones, or others.
Which henshin device type do you prefer. I prefer wristwear, they just feel more iconic like rider belts. |
I prefer something unique. Wrist wear is fine if it's done well or creatively.
I hate cell phones. They're garish and just don't look that good. Even with, like, 10 total cell phone changers, I'm already sick of them. |
I prefer wriswear/braces/whatever you wish to call them. A bit more practical.
Plus it means if I buy them I can actually wear them outside of cosplay. |
