I just thought of something. If Digimon is a portmanteau of "digital monster" then what's the portmanteau of "analog monster"?

got dragged into this franchise by a friend, starting with Ghost Game on the series side, and Cyber Sleuth on the game side

I highly recommend Digimon Tamers for anime. It's great stuff. For games, Digimon World Re: Digitize remains king for me.

I love this comment because you'd probably get a 50/50 split on which is which if you asked a bunch of Digimon fans.

I like Ghost Game, with some "meh" moments and one writing thing I didn't like.

Cyber Sleuth is funn to play, but most of the characters and story frustrate me. I might try rewriting the plot sometime.

Anyways, yeah Tamers is the fan favorite but the first season is worth watching as well. I really enjoyed the last two main arcs, and as a toku fan you'll likely have no issue with the more episodic first half. It also means you get to watch Our War Game, which is one of the earliest works by Mamoru Hosoda.

Cyber Sleuth slapping me with 11 extra sidequests, with bosses harder than the actual final boss of the game, gave me a trauma I cannot put into words, only screaming

I started Hacker's Memory, which so far is more tolerable

Ghost Game definitely isn't perfect, I've even taken it to task on some of my discord servers, but it's been a fun binge and screenshot source. It's also, yeah, just a horror anime hiding behind cute characters.
