THE TIME OF THE DOCTOR |

I'm actually really disappointed with the new direction of the series. Yes a hero committing genocide is kinda erm...yeah... but it added so much gravitas to who the Doctor was. I mean the hero pushed the button!
You take that away and what do we really have left? And you can say that why does he need that hanging over his head, and to an extent I'd agree, but I liked the fact that the Doctor was a bit of an iffy subject in the world of pop culture heroes, it sorta suits who he is and I'm a little disappointed that the future of the Doctor is a lot more black and white than it was before. |

So picking up where I left off on the 2006 series, its okay. Might keep waiting until I get to the next guy, this is only 6 episodes left anyway :lol

But I see your point. it's just Moffat has a bad habit of naming episodes something really weird :lol |

The Doctors changed their own personal timeline. Because of the paradox, only the most recent would retain the knowledge of the changed timeline. Which makes less sense since Capaldi made an appearance. It makes little sense. They jumped a great many sharks. The fact is NOW Gallifrey is out there. And he needs to find it and save his people. Who would've thought a massive narrative shift would be so convoluted. Quote:

Finally caught all the way back up to current.
I have to say that while I found Matt Smith likable at first his quirky whimsical attitude has really put me off after this long. After 3 Series of him I'm glad to see him go. I really hope Moffat is whipping the slate clean so to speak, maybe a little less of this whimsical fairy tale bullshit and get back to him being a sci-fi hero? Series 5 had more than enough mentions of fairy tales, thanks to the whole Pandora's Box story book elements. Series 6 seemed to lack a direction overall and honestly did nothing for me. Maybe a few episodes and the clever way The Doctor escaped his own death. Asylum I thought was a fun opener for Series 7 but the idea of erasing The Docotor entirely from the Dalek's minds seems utterly pointless. After Moffat took the time to resurrect them yet again, after Tennant and his metacrisis copy seemingly annihilated their entire race, he squandered them. A couple of episodes, a cameo at the Pandorica, and then wham, a whole race of Daleks who have no clue who their arch nemesis is. Seems like a wasted plot line. The rest of series 7 was pretty pitiful until "The Angels Take Manhattan." Even though I'm sick to death of seeing the creatures by now it was a great way to finally kick Amy & Rory to the curb. Those two really were grating on me by the end of Series 6. As for the Christmas Special with Clara I overall enjoyed it. Again, a bit much on the fairy tale side what with snowman monsters and the TARDIS in the clouds, but enjoyable none the less. She's a lot more interesting to me than Amy ever was and to be perfectly honest I'm not 100% sure why. But being caught up to date through "Name of the Doctor" I think it's safe to say this show really needs a jolt of life. "Day" was a brilliant way to celebrate the series overall and give Matt a little bit of spotlight for his doctor. But I'm ready to see Capaldi take a stab at the character. Quote:

Quite honestly, I don't expect much to change with the series until Moffat is gone. He seems very keen on the fairy tale thing.
|
The funny thing about Doctor Who is that no one can really agree on what they want their Doctor to be. Matt Smith was my Doctor and thus my default template of the Doctor so I never tire of him even when his stories suffered occasionally.
And I for one, very much love the fairy tale stuff. :lol The less sci-fi the better and this goes for my other two favourite "sci-fi" shows too: Star Wars and Star Trek. I feel when shows become too sci-fi sometimes they lose that suspension of disbelief because they actually invite you to think of the science behind it, and it never actually works out that well. |
