There's a poor translation early on in the TVN subs that drops a pretty crucial plot point: Hibiki is really similar in personality to Asumu's dad. He basically becomes a substitute father figure for Asumu.

And if you like the trumpet version of the theme, wait until Todoroki and Zanki show up and you get to hear the electric guitar version.

And technically, Zanki has already shown up, to be beaten by the giant crab thing. That should account for something.

I don't know. I only knew about the one thing because Jeeg from KITSubs mentioned it when he was scrubbing the show.

I wasn't aware KIT was scrubbing Hibiki. It'd be nice to see them tackle that series if for nothing else than to get some better video quality.

They did two episodes and then had to stop because they lost the raws when all the filesharing sites shut down back in February.

So I just watched the first four episodes to the original Kamen Rider series. It is nice to finally see them subbed (I've got up to episode 13 on Region 2 DVD) and they are quite enjoyable. In fact, for some reason, I have a hard time watching pre-Bioman Sentai series because they feel like they are 40 minutes long, but for the original Kamen Rider, the episodes go by pretty quickly. I don't know if I will ever make it through all 98 episodes, but I'm going to at least aim to get through the 30 KIT subbed episodes.

First off, I watched Shin this morning. My god it was down right awful. It did not even feel like a Kamen Rider movie, but instead, some generic bad horror movie wannabe. In fact, I think KRINO is a more appropriate name for it.

With that said, I've also decided to watch teh first episodes to a variety of Kamen Rider series today of ones I have never seen. At this moment I watched the first episode to X and to Stronger. I think the villains to X are pretty awesome from the first episode. Love the fact that the first monster was based off Poseidon (using the Roman name), so I hope that trend continues throughout the entire series (of course, that is the only episode that seems to be subbed). I'm not too found of the characters themselves right now, but it shows promise. Stronger, on the other hand, was actually really good. WHile I despise his costume design (the helmet is juts way too huge), I think the character himself was pretty badass. I love his attitude and definitely look forward to seeing more of this series.

Next up will be the first episodes to Skyrider and Super-1, so the only things I'm missing are Amazon and V3. I've also downloaded the ZX and J movies.

I've always thought that Shin was an interesting re-imagining of Kamen Rider in theory, but in practice it was an enormous mess.

X is a fun show. I've wanted to see the full thing for awhile now, but Order of Zeronos (unsurprisingly) dropped the sub project and the only raws I can find are hosted on the slowest damn filesharing site I've ever seen. The Roman villains do last for much of the series, but by the end they get replaced by monsters that combine animals and historical figures (like the infamous Starfish Hitler).

The Hi No Tori Amazon subs should be up at krdl. For V3 you'll need to find the official dvd release.

All right, so let's jump right into things:

Amazon Ep 1 - It was an odd episode. I cannot say I liked it, but I definitely did not hate it. I like how Amazon does not know Japanese though, but them killing off the professor seemed way too quick. The design for the ten heads dude is down right ugly though.

Skyrider Ep 1 - Wow, just wow. Not even 10 minutes in and the damn dude lost all of his friends already. OUCH!!! Still, this was definitely an awesome episode and probably my favorite of the ones I have watched today. I definitely look forward to watching more of this show.

Super-1 Ep 1 - I really love Super-1's design, but there is something about this episode I did not like. Like Amazon there was nothing I hated, I just felt it was weak. It is a shame that only 5 episodes have been subbed thus far, because I am curious to see more.

ZX - I guess this is nothing more than a movie? I mean, it seemed odd because the way they were rushing through his origin made it seem like it was something the audience should have already known, but it is the only thing I can find on this dude.

I didn't get to watch J since I got Amazon's first episode. It is a shame there is no way I am going to get to at least watch V3's first episode though. If they were sold outside of Hawaii I would have bought the set years ago.

Overall, it was another Kamen Rider filled day and I loved it. I do not know why, but I have to say that the older Kamen Rider series seem to hold up better than the older Sentai series. I usually can barely get through an episode of any Sentai series that came before Bioman, but here, I was attached to the screen at almost every moment. Anyway, it is nice to finally see nearly every rider in their own series instead of being in crossover movies, as I got a better feel for the characters. Out of what I watched today:

my favorite rider character was Stronger
my favorite rider design was tied between Super-1 and Skyrider
my favorite episode was Skyrider's
my favorite villain designs belonged to G.O.D. in X.

Watched the W net movies to round off the series yesterday. I have how silly the net movies are and these were no exception, the Kirihiko segments were especially hilarious.

Was planning on listening to the Wakana webshows just because I have them downloaded, but after struggling with the first 3 at I decided not to put myself through a whole 8 hours of them.

Well I just finished OOOs. Very good series IMO. Next is the series that will walk the path of Heaven!

I just watched J. Honestly, I did not think it was all that bad. It wasn't great by any means, but it was far better than Shin.

Have you seen ZO yet? It's much better than J.

I kinda saw ZO. It ended up being some april fools fandub from Nihon, so I need to watch the actual Japanese version (which does not work on my tv or BD player for some reason while their fools version did).

ZO is a solid film with a pretty good, if a bit cramped, story. ZO is a personal favorite for me. He's just got some really classic Showa awesomeness.

I actually like J a little more. ZO feels like it's trying to cram way much story into too small a space; J's story is much simpler, but it fits the running time a lot better. i do like ZO's special effects more, though, even if the Fog Mother in J is a crazy awesome design.

I forced my wife to sit down and start Den-O with me last night. I have a feeling she likes the show as we watched 17 episodes straight last night...Mr. Den-O would be proud :D

We also watched episode 2 of Wizard last night. Loving this series so far!

My wife usually reads or plays around on her ipad when im watching fansubs. But when Gokaiger ended and Gobusters started she said she liked the pirate show better. Every now and then she'll watch one with me when she wants a back rub. And she has no problem with me buying figures at all.

I usually watch Toku on Saturday & Sunday mornings while the lady sleeps in or during Say yes to the dress or Vampire Diaries. She's never really cared about my toy buying, which is nice. She knows who Captain Marvelous , Ankh , OOO and Momotaros are. The rest seem to run together and she won't stop calling the Zyurangers the Jew Rangers

Yeah my wife didn't really understand it at first (she would refer to Kamen Rider/Sentai as Power Rangers all the time) and she still doesn't like the "guys in suits" idea all that much but she loves the characters and storylines (she absolutely adores Momotaros and Ryoutarou from Den-O and Philip and Shotaro from W). She's actually the one who got me into collecting. She has an awesome Terminator 2 collection and when we were first dating I was trying to figure out what I could collect.

I got my girlfriend hooked on Kamen Rider by showing her Ryuki and hooked on Sentai through Hurricanger. She doesn't like every series, but she enjoys a lot of them. Some of her favorites include Ryuki, Den-O, W, Hurricanger, Gokaiger, GekiRanger, and Garo. She also wants to see CarRanger.

Should we retitle this the "What are your wife/girlfriend watching? (Kamen Rider Edition)" thread? :p

Just got past the Hibiki arc on Decade and trying to decide if I want to rewatch the rest, as this is where the whole thing really went off the rails.

I'd say right after Complete Forms' debut is where it really went downhill. But you're already this far so why not keep with it?

That's pretty much what I'm thinking, but from this point on all the episodes that don't have Minami Kotaro in them are so meh.

At this point, the only thing you need to watch are the episodes with Black and RX.

I dunno, the Shinkenger episodes are pretty good if you can get past the fact that they're all made out to be crap apart from Takeru.

That was their entire schtick.
Shinken world wasn't an AU, it was a crossover (It was even mildly referenced in Shinkenger).

Yeah, that's how Shinkenger worked. Takeru was the lord, the others were his vassals. It's one of the many aspects of the show that's heavily based on feudal Japan.

And the aspect that made pretty much every character but Genta boring as hell :lol

Genta was his friend and a late arrival so he didn't have to act like Shinken Red was his lord. He pretty much is Shinkenger's best Ranger.

Shinkenger is on the big list of toku I still need to watch. But for now, I'm about to start Agito! It's one of the last Heisei Rider series I still haven't seen yet.

Right I've got kiva, double, and decade at the front for my most watched. But I do have kuuga, agito, den-o, and ryuki taking the backburner spots. I've just got all wraped up in double and decade. It's weird to have watched a lot of kiva then go and watch the decade version be so different.
