Bleargh. I just finished Faiz 32. Reading this thread does not make me optimistic about finishing the run.

I've just been lazy with watching my toku recently. Really want to finish Faiz up as it does have my interest. Slightly sad since I'm also watching Black, Kuuga, Timeranger, and Garo in between so it's been viewed in between very good shows :lol

Edit: I will admit that I'm totally down on Faiz, but there are a few moments now and again that manage to amuse me. Mostly involving Kaido or Keitaro being idiots. It's cheap humor but I'll take the amusement where I can get it in this. |

I really enjoyed Faiz's action, but I just felt it became increasingly bogged down by the disconnect between Rider and Character, the impossible to place geography of the series and the fact the show has no plot or actual characters. It was just lots of random shit happening, but despite so much happening, the show never seemed to go anywhere.

Faiz sounds awesome.

I like a lot of stuff about Faiz but the show was really bad at answering questions. Like, why can't Mari transform into any of the Riders Despite having Orphnoch blood like all of the other Ryuusei kids and even getting a refill once she died? Or was everyone from Smart Brain in on the whole Orphnoch thing? Including the board of investors? And what is society's reaction to the Orphnochs? No seriously, they never answer something as big as the next step in human evolution in society. They have Orphnochs rule the world in the movie, but in the TV show, anyone that's not an Orphnoch doesn't seem aware of their existence. Despite me not liking Kuuga, at least that show had the decency to show how society reacted to the Grongi and show people's reactions to the growing threat. And Ryuki had the excuse that it was a secret Rider war (haven't seen Agito yet so I don't know about that one) |
Well the geography of Faiz was so bad, I was pretty much certain that outside of Lucky Clover, The President, Takkun's gang and the Ryuusei school the city was entirely empty. That is the only way I can fathom how our heroes seem to always stumble across Orphenoch attacks without build up, context or even any effort at continuity of time and place.

So three civilians. |
LOL Locke, you and I have a lot in common in noticing small details like no civilians and world building.

It's also a testament to just how poor Faiz is that we actually have so little focus on the action that we notice these things. |
The action for Faiz was actually was the least interesting part for me. The characters and moral dilemmas took center stage and I kinda forgot that the show had superhero fight scenes in it by the end of the episode. Combined with the fact that the action was sorta awkward. It was halfway between what I liked about Ryuki and Blade's fighting.
Ryuki while slow, mostly due to the cards, was very clean, making it very obvious what moves each character did and I could tell what's going on. (Plus I like the Contract monsters). Blade, while it also used cards, was faster and down and dirty. Faiz was sort of this awkward middle where it tried to be down and dirty, but the stupid ass mission memories needing to be inserted made the battles twice as long and half as interesting. Plus, the CG motorbikes didn't show up enough to fill that void that the contract monsters did. |
I only couldn't get invested in the characters because a) pretty much all of them were assholes b) they were never properly defined c) there was just this huge disconnect between Rider and character.
Episode, after episode, would open with Takkun getting his ass beaten by some villain or him taking down a villain or whatever but then the credits would roll and we'd see him sat about, maybe eating some food and the action wont even be referenced ever again, even when Major villains like Mr J got taken down, as soon as he died he was never mentioned ever again. Plus, with the way they only ever bookended the action any way, you could literally cut out the Faiz part of the show and it wont have any impact at all, which is kinda problematic in a show called Faiz... Personally up until Delta's introduction I thought Faiz had fantastic action. Axel's super speed bursts were fantastically realised, Auto Vajin is epic, the special effects were surprisingly high quality when you compare it to the atrocious special effects in Blade which came immediately after this and I felt the show did lots of interesting things in the way it used both the monsters and the Riders. But why should I care about any of this if it never feels like a part of the wider show? |
Locke, do you mind the overflowing amount of teen agnst coming from this show? Because you're going to get balls deep into it in the 30s and 40s of Faiz.

Personally I love Faiz because I related with the character and related with some of the other characters. I enjoyed the action a lot and the storyline, I honestly don't let a lot of the problems bother me.
|
But there are no characters or plot, that is the problem.

Faiz Episode 9
Is Naoya PMSing or something? Seriously I need a better reason for knocking over sandwiches other then "This isn't the time for eating happily." Yuji seems optimistic as always. I'm almost fairly sure it'll happen, but if it doesn't I really want reality to come crashing down on him HARD. We sort of saw something like that in the first two episodes but since then he's been playing a sort of peacemaker role, only getting involved when needed. Now there's nothing wrong with that, but it's starting to seem like he's always cheerful and optimistic, and is going to play the white knight role of the show. With all of that, I'd like to see it all come crashing down him and see how he reacts then. For once I fully agree with you Takumi. They are not the police and while Takumi is a Kamen Rider, and thus hero for the city, he doesn't have to help out with every little problem. A prowler is something you go to the police for when you need help with it. It's okay to tell somebody about the problem to get advice, but don't ask them to fully help you with it. On in Keitaro's case voluntarily sign up to do so. If there's any two things that I dislike about this show it's that Takumi is a total asshole save for a couple of occasions, and the fact that this is slowly turning into Scooby Doo with the group taking on local issues that the police should handle. Uhhhh why did they have to change clothes exactly? So the big prowler case is that somebody breaks into houses, steals some food and then cleans the entire house? Faiz why are we wasting time on this! The time used to explain that situation and the time spent on this whole angle could have been used for something better. More focus on the Takumi/Mari plot, character development, more stuff with Yuji, Yuka, and Naoya. ANYTHING other then this. I think this is the first time watching this show when I have found a plot point completely stupid. I've said that character traits are stupid, but never a plot point. Well I just did. This prowler/burglar plot is S T U P I D! "It's nothing you should worry about. We will never let any harm come to him." That ladies and gentlemen is secret code for "He's dead and we killed him." Protective charm? The belt has brought her nothing but trouble. Also I know what he said was probably a lie of some sort, but why make a belt to fight off Orphenochs when you people are Orpehnochs? Come on that's like a serial killer sending a letter to the police saying his name and when and where he will kill next. It's just going to come back and bite you on the ass. These two argue like an old married couple. Oh hey more cockteasing of this romance. Except this time they're face to face and talking. But hey they still won't find out who the other is so, yeah. Oh, she's got to sign something. No, she'll use a fake name, she'll use a fake name. The show isn't going to have them meet, the show isn't going to have them meet. Knew it. Uhhh Mr. President I don't think you should be sleeping in the middle of a business meeting. Now that's a cool looking Orphenoch. Sort of like a mummified beetle. I like it! SPIRIT BOMB! Holy shit Naoya is Faiz! I wonder how he got the belt. Did Smart Brain give it to him, did he steal it? Hopefully the next episode explains this. Well this episode was rather boring. Probably the most boring since the original. True this had some entertainment to it, whereas episode 1 had zero entertainment to it. Still though this one fell kinda flat. There wasn't that much action, no character development, a stupid ass sub plot, and no story at all. The only things noteworthy about it to me is the Orphenoch, and seeing Naoya as Faiz. So episode 9 was pretty boring and isn't one of the best of the show that I've seen so far. On the plus side Kaixa comes in next episode! He's the main reason I've been wanting to watch Faiz so it's great that he's finally coming into the show! |
Faiz 41: This show is killing me as the absurdity grows. :lol

Faiz Episode 10
Smart Brain Lady gets creepier and creepier with every episode. Anyways I see that SB's plan/idea is to use the Faiz Gear to get rid of the Orpehnochs that do not measure up to the president's standards. That's slightly predictable but to be honest I didn't even think that is what he would do with it last episode. Though to be frank, that sounds like a fairly elitist plan. I get he wants strong Orpehnochs but I don't know, this seems a bit odd. Is he trying to create a master race or something? Okay so the president picked Naoya to be Faiz but why? What does he feel Naoya can bring to the table as Faiz the Exterminator? Well I'd say Takumi is depressed over these recent events. Either that or he's just in shock. I see Yuka is going to have a little bit of fun with her powers. It's actually pretty cool to finally see her Orphenoch form. I like how it looks. It doesn't really have a bird like motif like she's suppose to have, but honestly I don't really mind. The design just looks fantastic just like the other Orpehnochs. Say what you want about the show but you have to admit, it has some pretty awesome monster designs. Although the scene does seem to showcase that Yuka may not feel entirely like Yuji does. I mean she was pretty quick to off those guys. True they were harassing her for money and would have probably done more sexual things to her (odd considering she's a teenager but hey, this is Faiz after all). You could theorize she'll only turn into a happily killing monster when people annoy, irritate, and just plain piss her off, but I don't know. I think her experiences with her family and classmates may have turned her into an actual monster in terms of how she acts, and it's only now coming out. You know I was about to make a joke about how when he's down Takumi acts nice and pleasant, but it seems like I was wrong. I guess he just spaces out every now and then in a situation like this. Oh well. So is the show suggestion that Smart Brain has it's fingers' into a lot of markets and can thus cover stuff up when needed? That sounds fairly cliche. Actually not fairly, it is cliche. But perhaps if that is what the show is suggestion, they'll do their own spin on it and make it different in some fashion. Not going to lie, Mr. Faiz has a nice ring to it. Now that was a good fight. Not a whole lot of back and forth though as Naoya was basically squashing Yuji when he (Yuji) wasn't flying around. Only time Yuji really got a good blow in was when they first started climbing up the stairs and when Naoya hesitated and Yuji hit him with the sword. But still it doesn't have to be back and forth to always be a good fight. This one was a bit one sided, but it still delivered on some great action. The Takumi Faiz fight with the mummy Orphenoch was nice as well, albeit a short as hell though. Still, nice fight. Of course, of fucking course! Kaixa shows up at the end and doesn't do anything other then stand there! But...it seems like he'll be in action next episode. So that's a plus. I'm just happy I finally get to see Kaixa. Well this episode was much better then episode 9. It had a story to it with Naoya being the new Faiz. It had some nice character development for Yuka, Naoya, and Takumi. The fight scenes were great as well as I previously mentioned. This was a good episode and as I said is much better then the previous one. Episode 10 had a good amount of everything one could want in an episode as far as what appears. The trend continues of every other episode being good, it following up a fairly bad one. The standard is there and I can only hope it doesn't stay like this for the remainder of the show. One fifth and all I can say is that I am entertained. True I'm only fully entertained and engrossed every few episodes, but even during some of the more boring ones I can find one aspect to usually get some entertainment all of. I'm liking what I watch so far so I may as well keep going. |

Kaixa is cool for maybe the first three episodes? Then he deteriorates into a greater and greater twat with less and less context for why he's such a dick. Then you move into the part of the story where suddenly everyone is in love with Mari like it's Kamen Rider Twilight or some shit.

Faiz Episode 11
I'm guessing Lucky Clover does not sparkle with Smart Brain? Mmmnnnn that new lady Orphenoch is very nice looking. Has a lovely voice as well. Well I see Naoya is as cheerful as always. And Yuka as subservient as always. And Yuji as, well, himself. Are we really spending time looking for a wallet? Is this really important to do outside of using it as a segway to discussion about Mari's class picture? Is there a point to this? Am I just rambling on about something that probably isn't that big of a deal? All I can is that Mari really needs to get a grip on her financials. This mother fucker's about to beat a sucka. Naoya putting on a shirt...:lol Andddddddddddd we got another bad ass Orpehnoch design! Man this guy is strong. He's just kicking the crap out of Takumi. He even withstood/deflected a rider kick. Probably the first time I've seen Takumi just getting beaten up and not fighting back that much. Here'sssssssssssssssssssssssss Kaixa! Well this episode was, alright. It had great interaction with Keitaro and Yuka (even though they still haven't put two and two together). Of course now I'm curious how this all will turn out since technically Keitaro just broke up with Yuka to be with Yuka...confused yet? There wasn't really a story to the episode, or any character development, so that's a shame. The action was pretty nice for when it came up and it's nice seeing Takumi get beaten down and not just take a few punches before making a very quick comeback. I'd say the episode was just alright. Nothing really spectacular, but not anything terrible. |
Aaaaaaand Faiz is done. Whew. While I was not a fan of the series overall, I surprisingly liked Paradise Lost. Now I'm all confused in my Faiz feelings. Tomorrow I shall start Blade.

So does this make me the only one actively watching Faiz now? :lol

I'm still ahead of you though, so maybe if I can stay consistent I can hang around and discuss it with you. Kaixa looks great, but except for one episode, the guy is a douche. And not just standoff-ish like Accel or Zero were at first, like an actual i'm-so-much-better-than-everyone-people-who-dislike-me-deserve-a-beating-douchenozzle. I think I should be getting Delta in an episode or two. Maybe I'll watch another episode tonight between W episodes (Nightmare arc) |
So when do I watch Paradise Lost?

Kamen Rider Gaim Episode 18
Good god this episode was corny! The whole "I want to dance!" thing was cute at the start but honestly at this point it's getting rather annoying when it's anyone but Mai doing it as her passion for dancing has been firmly established and is, in my opinion, rather inspiring. The way she refused to give up when she was trying to get all the teams together for the group event was pretty damn moving and I'll admit seeing all of them united at the end was pretty awesome (Especially the cameos made by the Kamen Rider Girls, well played Toei) Aside from that though this episode was rather standard. Bravo was awesome as always and the comedic moments between him and Ornac were simply amazing, (I swear Urobutchi, if you kill him off you be sure to give him the death he deserves!) and Kamen Rider Duke... damn that guy is scary. All in all, pretty good episode just not the best the series has had so far. No, that honor goes to episode 14. :) |
