I'll save my Black Ranking for after I've watched more Showa Sentai, as all I have for that right now is Goggle Black and Black Bison, the order of which would be too predictable to justify ranking. Quote:

Yet another long overdue Sentai ranking list and this time, it's for the blues. I should also note that my top three rangers of this particular color have a tendency to be very interchangeable. Also, this took longer than I thought.
1. Gokai Blue 2. Blue Dolphin 3. Mega Blue 4. Magi Blue 5. Geki Blue 6. Tenma Ranger 7. Kyoryu Blue 8. Time Blue 9. Blue Buster 10. Kiramei Blue 11. Deka Blue 12. Gosei Blue 13. Denzi Blue 14. Blue Mask 15. Aoranger 16. Blue Swallow 17. ToQ #2 18. Blue Flash 19. Go Blue 20. Hurricane Blue 21. Diamond Jack 22. Change Pegasus 23. Lupin Blue 24. Bouken Blue 25. Blue Racer 26. Dyna Blue 27. I recall they were both the most reserved of their respective teams. |
Finished Mirai Sentai Timeranger (the Sentai that came out the Year I was born!), and it was way better than I was expecting!
While the Timeranger suits aren't my favorite designs, the characters themselves really stood out becoming some of my favorites in Sentai, differing from what I initially had in mind from first impressions, and they all definitely grew on me. The Londerz (I got the money laundering pun) were also an interesting bunch, Don Dolnero's human disguise is exactly what I imagine from him, but he was also a rather surprising villain whenever his ties with some of the other villains was explored. And the mechs were some of my favorites from most of the Sentai I've watched. Time Robo Beta or Time Shadow might be my favorite overall. I had a lot of fun watching this series, but I've also been watching Gekisou Sentai Carranger on the side and am currently halfway through, and boy is this show a riot, I'm really loving it (Signalman is probably one of my favorite parts)! Hope to be able to finish it soon. |
And finally a (relatively minor) update of Sentai ranking list for sixth rangers. I will be doing my final (for now) updated ranking list for all of the Sentai seasons I have watched so far for another day and I will hold off my ranking for the white rangers of Super Sentai until I have watched and finished Zenkaiger.
1. Gokai Silver 2. Gosei Knight 3. Mega Silver 4. Time Fire 5. Beet Buster & Stag Buster 6. Star Ninger 7. Kiramei Silver 8. Deka Break 9. Kyoryu Gold 10. Shurikenger 11. ToQ #6 12. Zyuoh The World 13. Go-On Gold & Go-On Silver 14. Bouken Silver 15. Shinken Gold 16. Dragon Ranger 17. Magi Shine 18. Phoenix Soldier 19. Patren/Lupin X 20. Abare Killer 21. Gao Silver 22. Kiba Ranger 23. King Ranger 24. Ryusoul Gold |

Carranger is also great though. I actually wasn't too into the humor in the first half, but found the second half hilarious. So since you already enjoy it, it might become even funnier for you from here on out! |

Fiveman Episode 34:
https://i.imgur.com/BaOBjEv.jpg Packing people into cans to be eaten, mushroom-lizard-man getting really excited at the idea of eating Pink, and the MOTW gets lured into a trap by Yellow flashing him. And this time Inoue was NOT involved (that I could tell). |

On Carranger, I do get what you're saying, mainly I get a laugh whenever a new monster shows up, since they all look so wonderfully ridiculous and catroony along with how over-the-top they are, or even the fact that they grow giant by eating Imo-Youkan is enough is certainly enough for me. Also, I see Signalman might be a spoof on the Metal Hero series given his theme song, to his name "Kobaan" possibly a spin off Micheal Corben like the other Space Sheriffs, I strangely really enjoy this guy and the hijinks the series has as a whole, especially after the introduction of the Zokurangers who have a variation of the Carranger theme song! |
Started watching Sun Vulcan. Well, so far it's a pretty standard, mission-oriented Sentai. What's notable is the very active mentor, who, along with his daughter, seems to do more than the rangers in some episodes. The main feature of this show turned out to be not as important as Damon from Timerangers noted:
https://i.ibb.co/XxRw90Xd/time-about-sun.png Misa plays a significant role in the plot, and the composition of Black Magma is overwhelmingly female. By the way, the idea of bringing back Queen Hedorian was very correct, because Machiko Soga very well dilutes the very straightforward villains of the show. I also want to praise Sun Vulcan for its aesthetics. The troopers are some of the most beautiful in the franchise, and the rangers' outfits literally scream heroism. Also the talking dog is incredibly cute. So overall it's worth watching. P.S. If I can find fault with anything, it's how different VulShark's helmet is. In every close-up shot he seems like a guest star to me. P.P.S. This show is also very into hitting people in the head with a ball. Not only is it Sun Vulcan's finisher, but they also often hit someone in the head with regular non-explosive balls. https://tokuzilla.net/wp-content/upl...et/4310-04.jpg |

Carranger was such an odd show for me humorwise, the early episodes certainly got me to laugh sometimes, but it was almost trying TOO hard to be funny. The turning point for me was the episode about how Signalman literally cannot resist obeying road signs. Starting from that point, the show almost always had me laughing like mad! |

Fun Fact: Yellow Four and Pink Five were originally planned to be dudes, which would've made Bioman the second Sentai with this ratio. Instead, they went the opposite way and gave us 2 girls, with Jun making it 3. Quote:

I've honestly fallen pretty far behind in my Sentai viewing compared to how many Kamen Rider and Ultraman shows I have seen at this point. So I finished my first Showa era Sentai today, one I have been slowly watching for months: Goranger!
I honestly thought the show would be a drag, especially given that that it is 84 episodes long, but it was a fun and all around charming show! The team dynamic makes the show much more entertaining to watch than Showa Kamen Rider and everyone has strong personalities to boot. Not to mention the fact that the show is extremely, deliberately funny. I was laughing my butt off most episodes because of how absurd the show was, and unlike a lot of other shows from the 70s it felt quite intentional here. It also got wackier and wackier as it went along. It was almost too much, this show makes Carranger seem like a hardcore drama. Of course this show has some unusual quirks since it predates many Sentai staples, but I didn't find myself missing the mech fights or anything. In fact, I think I preferred Goranger's approach to just have some cool vehicles they use sometimes. Another point in this show's favor vs later Sentai is how they turned the team's combination attack, typically one of the most formulaic parts of any Sentai show, into a thrilling moment of "What on Earth is the Goranger Storm/Hurricane going to turn into this time!?" It's not a perfect show by any means, this show has a notable amount of visual jank even for the time period and the sheer length of the show doesn't do it any favors, but I had a lot of fun and am now quite eager to try out more Showa Sentai later. Not quite sure how I will rank it yet, but I am leaning toward a B just for the sheer fun factor. Going to mull it over a bit. |
I just started my rewatch of Gekiranger as of today.

Finished watching JAKQ. What can I say: it wasn't bad at all, but I understand why viewers didn't like the show. Its main problem: it's enviable inconsistency, when the show doesn't just start out brutal and then becomes more fun, but changes tone every few episodes, and sometimes even connects the unconnected.
It had some great episodes, but they were just that, episodes, which would be much more enjoyable to watch separately later. At the same time, a lot of elements from JAKQ easily migrated to Battle Five J and even later Super Sentai shows, so it is quite possible that the show simply fell victim to the disputes between Toya and Ishinomori. In any case, it was an interesting experience. And yes, Big One is definitely the first Sixth Senshi, even though he's the fifth. Also: ISSIS members are dying in such huge numbers that even being a ZECT trooper or a policeman in Kuuga seems like a safe job in comparison. P.S. In general, Tamasaburo ruined the show. P.P.S. The elephant in episode 30 is great. |

Giving me the itch to rewatch Gekiranger. It's so good, and I love the arc with the 5 venoms.

I have just finished episodes 19-21 of my Gekiranger rewatch and it is still a fantastic story arc.

I just finished my sparkling Kiramager rewatch, which I'll talk about later this week. For now though, I want to talk about this 4-part TTFC spin-off series I watched for the first time: Yodonna.
Written by Kiramager's Inoue Tete, the most underrated Inoue in Tokusatsu, this series is 120+ minutes of Yodonna content, which is weird enough that the name Inoue Tete becomes much more memorable after watching it. Despite being a sequel to Kiramager, it's definitely not Sentai, as only Juru, Tame and Shiguru appear unmorphed in minor roles. Instead, this series brings a setting appropriate for Yodonna, which I personally think was a good choice. Even Kiramager's most superfluous and annoying character, Kakihara, actually fits better here and slowly convinces me to care about her problem. For fans of both Sentai and Rider, there are many delightful cameos. It completely puts Outsiders and Girls Remix to shame, with an emotional and exciting story about Yodonna's redemption and revival, which is treated both seriously and comedically. Overall, I think it's the kind of series you can enjoy even if you haven't watched Kiramager, or hell, even if you don't like Kiramager. I would recommend it for sure! |

I am now up to the final four episodes of my Gekiranger rewatch and depending on how things turn out in my eventual rewatch of Dairanger, Gekiranger may or may not officially displace the latter series as one of my Top 5 favorite Sentai series overall. The show is seriously that great. I should be finished with revisiting the series very soon.

Sparkling Rewatch of Machine Sentai Kiramager Episode 23-45, VS Ryusoulger & Bebop Dream
Even if Kiramager isn't particularly weird and crazy compared to most other Reiwa Sentai, which I'd argue is actually part of Kiramager's charm, I think the final arc is the second best after King-Ohger. It's fully acknowledged here that Garza's Kiramentality is stronger than Oradin's and would've been a perfect match for Juru's, if not for the fact that Emperor Yodon brainwashed him in childhood to hate Oradin. This is the plot twist that people often criticize about the show, claiming that it sacrifices Garza's autonomy. And honestly, I can't argue against that, especially compared to Gekiranger by the same producer, where Rio was merely emotionally manipulated by the final boss. Nevertheless, I appreciate how it adds another layer of depth to Juru's and Garza's rivalry and makes Yodon even more despicable for corrupting Garza's sparkling heart and using his sparkling mind for evil. The 2-part final battle against Yodon is clever for how it sequentially uses each of the 4 Granterstones, the most powerful stones in the universe, all to defeat him once and for all in an improvized plan led by Juru's Hirameking and Tame's tactical direction. The show has often emphasized frequent practical effects for the Machines, so it's appropriate that most of the battle is on giant scale, while also being a clear reminder of Yodon's crazy strength and resilience. The Granterstones were also shown to have been used simultaneously in the epilogue to revive Crystalia, which had been established early in the second half of the show as Takamichi's new goal for gathering them since having saved Mabusheena. I think this is a fitting conclusion that allows Garza to rest in peace knowing that his worst crime was absolved. Of course, I must also mention that sweet Juru flip in the helmetless roll call. Komiya made it look easy! Regarding the individual character focus episodes, the one people probably remember most is 27, the Gekiranger tribute with Natsume and Miki returning to have Sena test drive their new SCRTC product. Sena has been sponsored by them since the start, so this crossover makes a lot of sense and she really sparkles here. Honestly, I'd say all Sena focus episodes are sparkling ones, which is basically my segway to finally talk about my favorite character in the show. Episode 37 is about the importance of her ability to think ahead in case the optimal result isn't viable, which attentive fans will remember, since her track athlete career started after she moved away from the path of karuta queen. Perhaps this ability, initially dismissed as negativity but noticed by Sayo as essential to Sena's success, is why she can sparkle in so many different ways. While not as specialized as Juru's vivid imagination-fueled Kiramentality, Sena has a wide range of aptitudes besides just running fast and despite her airheaded impression, she has a lot of hidden wisdom that appears when she's in the zone. I can totally see what Mach loves about her. Kiramager VS Ryusoulger is still my favorite Reiwa VS movie so far, which isn't exactly hard as it's followed by a streak of 4 major misses. Of course, it's also a pretty great movie in its own right. It has a good amount of focus on each of the character pairs, the Yodon Studio is an entertaining framing device for the conflict, there's a tribute to Ui reasurring the audience that she's living happily and both Sentai's mecha show up for the finale, which seems rare these days. Other than Wiserue, what more could I want? Bebop Dream is okay, I guess. The narrative seems to be taken from the original concept of the summer movie (the one that was supposed to release in Summer), with Numajo's little sis Minjo as the villain. The premise is solid enough and I honestly remember being hopeful about it when it was announced alongside All Sentai Rally and Memory of Soulmates. I feel like I've already seen the big climax of this story though, with the show's anxiety-inducing Numajo arc. Minjo is less threatening alive than Numajo was dead. On a lesser note, I'm tired of the repetitive vice joke at Shiguru's expense, which reappears here and once more in Zenkaiger VS Kiramager VS Sempaiger. Well, I'm glad that Zabyuun got to have his big movie focus after all and the action was good at least. There are worse summer movies you could watch than this one. Overall, my sparkling rewatch has resolved any doubts about my judgment that Kiramager was worthy of the promotion in my Reiwa Sentai Ranking! There's a moral in VS Ryusoulger about Juru's ability to receive Hirameking, which explains that doing what you love is easier when you do it with the motivation of that love, rather than doing it for the sake of productivity. My experience with Kiramager is like that, with the clear state of mind making it much easier to examine and enjoy. You could say that the first watch was Calamental and the rewatch brought out the true Kiramentality. Between the 3 Sentai I've been considering rewatching next, I realized that Abaranger is another Arakawa season so I think I should leave that for another time and Zyuohger would be good to save for next year on the 10th anniversary, so I decided.... I'm going to give Shinkenger another shot and see how my opinion of it might have changed in the last 16 years. Quote:
