Episode 20: This episode was more or less one giant exposition dump, but a very well executed exposition dump. So...a destroyed civilization...holy crap. Honestly, I can't tell who's in the right here...Kouta, Kaito, or Takatora, they all make really good points. MORAL AMBIGUITY! MORAL AMBIGUITY, EVERYWHERE! I seriously wonder where the heck Urobochi is going with this. |

Black RX 17
The finale to the Princess Garonia arc. This was a really, really fun series of episodes and probably one of the best stories I've seen based around granting a Rider new forms (even if the mechanics that led to those new forms were kinda dodgy). Bio Rider debuted this time and he really is every bit as overpowered as I've always heard (Robo Rider has a gun, Bio Rider can turn into plasma, redirect energy attacks, and some attacks just pass right through him). I like split between the two forms: Robo Rider is like the extreme extension of his cyborg half while Bio Rider is an extreme of his human half. I'm not sure if that was intentional or not, but I like the idea. Also, this episode snuck in a cameo by the instrumental version of Long Long Ago, 20th Century and it was fantastic to hear that again. Nothing against RX's ending theme, but Black's soundtrack is unmatched. |
Black Episode 5
OH MY GOD! IT'S AN ANGRY MOB! Wait she's the only one with your new phone number? Why? Shouldn't you give it out to all your family and friends? I smell our plot! Struggling a little there Kotaro? So how come you lifted up a werewolf with plenty of ease last episode, but this girl is causing strain? Forget to eat your Wheaties or something? Makes sense to go to the village where she started getting weird. But Kotaro why would you think it's Gorgom? I mean we all know it will be their fault but you can't just assume like that. Maybe we should replace "It's all Decade's fault" with "It's all Gorgom's fault!' Kotaro you do know that you could've had those guys off of you in about five seconds right? Lord Goat? Huh I didn't know the head of Gorgom was http://guardianlv.com/wp-content/upl...le-Outrage.jpg Looks like they're obeying your will pretty well already. Too late. Man that is some terrorist like shit those villagers are doing. Throwing fire into this old man's house. Don't they have any respect for their elders? Between this being a night fight and all this damned smoke, it's a little hard trying to tell what all is going on. Finally I can see clearly! And it's at the end of the fight...well that blows. This fight scene is probably the worst I've seen of the show so far mostly because I couldn't freaking make out anything that clearly until the very end of the fight when the mutant was about to get kicked into oblivion. So yeah, bad fight scene, bad! Well episode 5 was fairly nice. Only knock against it is that pretty crappy fight scene. Other then that, it wasn't all that bad. |
I'm currently watching Fourze,then I'm onto Den-O next!

Black Episode 6
Well the Eagle Mutant looks alright. The head is pretty goofy looking though and looks skinny compared to how big the rest of it's body is. Plus I would have loved to have seen black wings instead of white ones. So Gorgom has kidnapped artists in under to train them in ESP so that they can steal important documents like blueprints? That sounds utterly silly. Why not keep that plan, but cut out all of the espionage stuff. Train them to draw you monsters or weapons or anything you as Gorgom need, and with their ESP powers bring them to life? That sounds like a better plan then training people in ESP just so you can steal blueprints. Man dressed like an eagle eh? I think I know the culprit is. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...scot_Swoop.jpg I love how they all have drinks while they're performing an interview. It's just one of those things that makes me smile. God I love these night shots with Black. He just looks so damn pretty in them. Whenever I get my Black renewal I so need to try and take a night time like picture of him. This plan just got even more stupid if you ask me. Yeah because you obviously have broken legs and arms. Get in there yourself you lazy house wife! And you too you kid! Your sister is trying to drown herself. Don't just wait for help, BE the help! Was that a jab of the hard working and elitist ethic of Japans business side? Nahhhhhhhhhhh. What is the damn point of this! This business and super computer bull crap has no reason to be in a Kamen Rider show! Why does Gorgom care so much about it? They're a satanic cult that has magic, why do they want to crash the damn business world? It makes no fucking sense! You I'm just now noticing that after Kotaro transforms into Black that his suit starts to smoke. Why is it? :lol the eagle sounds like a freaking duck, Donald Duck to be more exact. Well that was an alright fight. Mostly it was just Kotaro getting beaten down until the tail end of the fight, but that seems to be the norm with Black. So no use in really complaining about it. Black comes from a different time and so the fights won't be like what I'm use to with the Heisei shows. It is fairly repetitive, but I won't let it bother me too much. So with Eagle Mutant destroyed, did they lose their psychic powers or do they still have them? Also is this narration going to play after every episode about how Black is a cyborg and how he wins the day with his anger and sadness? Well episode 6 was...something. To be quite honest I didn't really enjoy this one. All of the Wall Street meets psychic type stuff pretty much killed the episode's story for me. It just doesn't belong in Kamen Rider (the business stuff). And to top that off the overall plan of Gorgom was stupid as well. Not just for wanting to destroy computers, but for teaching artists ESP and then having them enter the business world. As I suggested earlier why not train them in ESP and then have them draw weapons and monsters for you to then bring to life? Hell you don't even need to teach them ESP for that, you could bring them to life yourself. So as you can all probably tell, I didn't care for the story. Outside of that there really wasn't much else that I enjoyed outside of the music (that bass line playing when Kotaro breaks into the psychic school, boss). The fights were alright but were pretty short and typical. Once again I don't mind as much since this is from the Showa era and fights weren't that lengthy or elaborant yet, but it is something I can't really get all that pumped up for (I only really got into the first three fights of the show). So yeah, this is the first Black episode I honesty don't really care for or like. |

Part of the reason I dropped Black before it "got good" was just how utterly terrible Gorgom were. Kotaro is one of the coolest Riders ever, and although repetitious Black has some solid production values for its age, but when the Gorgom weren't downright useless (which they prove themselves to be OVER AND OVER AND OVER) they were just downright stupid.
Some of the of the week plots are so silly, so poorly realised, full of so many logic leaps and so lacking in any sense of satisfying conclusions it may as well be that 60s Adam West Batman show. |
Started Black I love it. I'm very slow at finishing series though. Digging OOOO so far too
|
Never watched Kamen Rider before so I'm starting off with Black.. So far I'm on episode 4.. Liking the series so far.. Although some of the costumes are downright awful.
|
I am deeply pleased to see so many people trying out Black right now. :D

Well just watched the ZO movie and it was okay. The plot wasn't the best, but wasn't as bad as some of the Super Hero Taisen plots.
Now the suits I enjoyed except for ZO's suit. The monster were detailed while ZO's suit was just sort of like the creators were like, oh yeah it's a Kamen Rider movie forgot! Though now I think I should either continue with Wizard or just go with Black since recently the Showa train is in me. |
Huh. I also started watching Black. Only the first ep so far. I wasn't prepared for the sheer eighties-ness of it all. I liked it though, interesting set up. They really should have some kinda warning bumper before Kotaro henshins though. I wasn't ready for those flashy eighties fx.

AH EVERYONE WATCHING BLACK AT ONCE.
Maybe I should jump back in and finish the show :lol |
Welp. I've done it. Just like with Kyoryuger, I managed to find one of the darker points in Kamen Rider history with an English dub via facebook.
That's right people. I'm watching Kamen Rider Shin. If anyone else wishes to watch this one, I'd be happy to share the link. I'll post my thoughts when I'm done...but this should be a good ride. |

Since I have so much to watch, I might put it off as well. I said about two hundred pages ago that I'd give Kabuto another try until episode ten, so later this year I may jump back into black and start my ten episode Kabuto challenge.

Heh. I'm about to start Kabuto myself once I get through my backlog of weeklies.

Super 1 Episode 8: These evil organizations are just pure evil back in the Showa Era. Dogma just sentenced this scientist and his family to death and sheesh that's harsh. Just love how Super-1 took out the Dogma soldiers and the usage of Power Hands and Hot and Cold hands too. Great action in this series.

Marathoned Kabuto HARD in 2 weeks, absolutely loved it. Need a suggestion for the next KR I should watch, tried OOO and Gaim for a few eps, not feeling it tbh.

Black 2 and 3
So we get an origin for how Kotaro and his brother were kidnapped by the Gorgom. From what their dad said in the first episode and the party in the origin, their path in life had been planned out by the Gorgom for a while. Too bad they didn't count on Kotaro escaping. This is the most super-heroey a Rider show I've ever seen in terms of style. I like how there's like a scene every episode of Gorgom mutants wandering about doing ominous things. They're goal is pretty simple. Wipe out modern humanity so the Gorgom and their Creator King can rule the earth. Cool fights too , especially in episode 2 with the fight in the building. The music in this series makes me wanna play an arcade beat 'em up or something. Also that bat mutant has been recurring for a while. Wonder when he and Kotaro are gonna have a show down... |

And, if memory serves, the bat mutant's fight with Kotaro is in episode 49. |

Black Episode 7
Ladies, ladies, ladies, there's no need to be scared. You have tennis rackets. Just channel your inner Jim Cornette and whack those guys till they run away. Oh no, lime Kool-Aid. Of doom! So Gorgom is going to bring people in to stop gangs (and by stop they mean kill probably)? That doesn't sound too evil. Of course it's probably a front for something else. But if it isn't, not your most evil plan guys. I think even Lothor came up with better evil plans then this. OH! Evil force that wants to create a utopia! Take a shot! Knew it. Actually they won't. See if they kill everybody they meet, this means they'll be doing quite a number of public executions. Which means that they'll probably be seen pretty easily while doing the deed. So no, don't think they'll be that great at being assassins. Also grasshopper wine? :lol Rhino mutant looks like something straight out of Rampage. And he has Mickey Mouse ears! The suit looks alright but boy is it funny looking. Weren't they suppose to kill them? You know, what assassins do? Nevermind, Mickey Rhino took them out. Kotaro I think it's time to henshin. That was a really nice fight/action scene. I don't quite get why Kotaro never seems to fight back when civilians gang up on him. He could easily have them neutralized in about a minute. I guess he doesn't want to use his powers to hurt humans, but come on man, they attacked you, I think it would be okay to play some offense. The fight here with Rhino Mouse was pretty nice as well. It was mostly a squash, but it still was nice. It actually makes sense that a rhino mutant would be that strong, and thus able to throw Kotaro around easily. So very nice fight scene and the only other thing I have to say is poor Battle Hopper. BATTLE HOPPER! He's gonna be okay! That was actually a pretty cool escape scene. Very stealthy and Metal Gear like. I liked it. Why'd he have to go to the docks? In fact it seems like a lot of the fights are done at docks. Were docks like the place to shoot tokusatsu back in the 1980's or something? Now that was a good fight scene. It was sort of like their first encounter with Mickey Rhino still overpowering Kotaro. But Kotaro had more of an offense to give this time instead of just defense, so it was more back and forth, with the mutant only having some advantage. It was cool to see Kotaro run somebody over with Battle Hopper, and I would love for there to be a final attack he does using BH as a weapon, be tight as hell. Anywho great fight here, and great fights all around in this episode. Wait is the taller girl his sister? He's leaving his sister behind? Does she have a way of getting home outside of walking? Why'd you leave her behind Kotaro? Well this was quite the nice episode. Gorgom's plot, and thus the episode's story was pretty ridiculous. I get they're trying to enslave people to bring down humanity, but this was an utterly weird and silly way to do it. Especially considering they didn't even stick to the plan that well. The story wasn't bad, it just came off as being ridiculous and silly. The action scenes were the best part of the episode IMO, and were a huge step up from episode 6. Still, it wasn't as awesome as the fight in episode 2 was. All around, good episode, silly plot, awesome fight scenes, nice job in the end. |
Well decided to start Hibiki along with Wizard and well, I loved Hibiki. It was only one episode, but I guess being a musician myself it just hit a spot in me and I feel like I will enjoy going through the rest, though for now, I suppose I will have to continue with Wizard or skip the filler.

Watched the first two episodes of Kabuto. I enjoyed them, but I'm not too sure what I think of it just yet. Kagami hasn't really done anything of interest yet, and while I like Tendou I'm fairly sure the "perfect protagonist" schtick will get grating fairly quickly.
Still, I'm looking forward to see more. |
I started watching Kamen Rider Dragon Knight (the American adaption of Kamen Rider Ryuki). I'm enjoying it a lot. I'm on episode 4.

Finished watching Kamen Rider Shin, and now I understand why people don't talk about it. It's really not a spectacular film and at points it feels a bit cluttered, but it's not awful or even that bad, but it's nothing to write home about.
I wish there was a continuation to the story or some closure to it, because as it is, it seems way too obvious that this was just the prequel to a bigger event that sadly never came to be. Ah well...Time to get started on Black. Maybe the other two "Showa" movies, if I see some good reviews. |
