Diance gets a mega. We all knew the other two Hoenn starters were going to get megas. Mega Sceptile will be a grass/dragon with the ability lightning rod and mega Swampert will stay the same type but with the ability swift swim.

Steven Stone returns and also appears to have a Mega Charizard X and is after the secret for Mega Evolution
Both the Mach and Acro Bike make a return in this game and Team Aqua & Team Magma both return as well. Team Magma is lead once again by Maxie, and his Admins: Homura & Kagari. Team Aqua is lead by Archie and his admins Ushio and Izumi. Like the originals the team you face varies depending upon the game. The Mega Evolution activating item in this game is the Mega Bangle

I don't have a favorite Gen3 starter, but I did enjoy my Event Blaziken in my X playthrough. But I did think Marshtomp was cool upon learning it was part Ground (my favorite type) and a Ruby&Sappire bookmark I had in 5th Grade made me partial to Treeko (and Kyogre but that was before I realized how awesome Groudon was) but my first glance at Sceptlie didn't impress me.

What about Aqua Jet? The one I have planned (but still need to get one with Adaptability) is pretty much the same, but with Aqua Jet in case you need to ensure a quick hit. Plus STAB.
