Yuri sealed himself away, but gave Kurayami to SOL for keeps. Lore also states that previous users of Kurayami didn't make use of its future vision until Hayato did in the SOL special. Maybe they utilized some way of stopping it, like how Daichi put a glove over his hand.

Or there were no real dangers to the world at the time. The Megid waer sealed, Bacht was sealed as well and Luna wasn't there. Aka, peaceful times, at least that's how I see it.

Luna not yet existing and Bacht not being present were true, yes, but the Megid weren't sealed. They never were. The fight between the swordsmen and the Megid had been happening for a few hundred or so years.

The glove is a definite part of the costume, for that reason I think. It's a notable change in Kento's second costume too, white clothing that covers up the palms of his hands so that it's never touching the sword directly. Kamijo had a full black leather glove, and it's the only hand he's ever touching the sword with. Hayato is cursed with the visions and they never stop.

Kurayami itself isn't technically evil. The show goes out of its way to say that things like Calibur and the darkness aren't inherently evil. The sword itself is an incredible ally to the SoL, in theory. It shows Calibur the future in order to deter a bad ending, by showing those who wield it who the culprit is in advance as we saw with Hayato Calibur acted as a heroic figure until he was manipulated by Master Logos. Kento, as well, wasn't really a villain. He simply sought out his own solution to stopping the end of the world, which required sealing the swords.

Kurayami not evil? Maybe. Jaaku (Evil) Dragon on the other hand is so friggin blatant that it makes me wonder why the SoL allowed its use in the first place.

Kento had fingerless bandages, so he still had contact with the sword, so it still gave him the visions. I really did like it added to Daichi having a gloved hand. I remember past theories said that Kamijou somehow cut Hayato's hand and put it as his own, that would have been freaky.

Probably a by-product of the toy's naming scheme to differentiate Calibur as "an evil rider" to Saber for product advertising. Somewhat the same case with the Sting Scorpion key making a rather threatening "Poison!" when activated.

I mean there's also Brave Dragon that the book clearly states itself "A God Beast that would destroy everything."

I would argue, however, that poison is morally neutral; it only has a bad reputation due its usage but it can also be used for 'good' purposes such as rat or weed extermination. And as for Brave Dragon, I would argue that 'the power to destroy everything' is just there to state that Brave Dragon is ridiculously strong, whether used for good or evil.

Literally blurting out that your book is evil, however, is a completely different matter.

And as for toy purposes, I would argue that previous villain Riders didn't necessarily have 'evil' on their collectibles (e.g. 'Lemon Energy Lockseed', 'Lupin Gunner', 'Kamen Rider Chronicle', 'Cobra Evolbottle', etc.) so it's not really necessary to differentiate Calibur as an 'evil Rider'. I mean, it certainly helped but wasn't necessary; a mere aesthetic thing.

Basically my main gripe is that having a 'heroic Rider' with 'evil' literally slapped across their henshin trinket is super sketchy (note: I'm not dissing the sword, I'm dissing the book). I guess that's why they made Kento go back to being Espada. SoL really is a crazy organisation.

I guess. That pretty much leaves it as differentiating Calibur as an "antagonist rider" for advertising and not much else lore-wise. Calibur was also mostly used as an opposing force to the riders for most of its run.

Tho, one could argue Caliburs are indeed still kept watch but not too much, by Sabers. There's a link with a Saber and a Calibur and Daichi was the one closest to Hayato.

If I could add my two cents to the "are Calibur's powers evil?" discussion:

I feel like Riders using "evil" powers isn't a new thing. Wasn't the first one created by by a world-conquest-seeking dictaor? And also: Jaaku Dragon is a book. A book itself can't be evil. It's a book about an evil dragon, yes, but it's still just like any other Ride Book. And since it's a book about evil, maybe the Idea is that Calibur has the knowledge of evil and uses it to fight evil.

Don't need to feel to since it's the very thing that makes Kamen Riders what they are. Would also certainly be a neat spin on that classic trope, too.


Now, to ask why is his belt called the Jaken Caliburdriver :lol
