So there's already a review of the S.H. Figuarts Mario and his add-on packs on YouTube, but...man, I've never heard someone call something 'crap' so many times in a toy review before.
The guy bashes everything about the figure and the same in the add-on pack reviews he does. |

^This. I can't imagine a figure being complete crap unless it just explodes like a bad case of GPS, or falls a part. Plus it's kinda hard to screw up accessories unless the molding is messed up. |

If they are a regular reviewer... Well nothing about it has seemed bad thus far to make me believe him either. |

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NJwoWQHlFVY When he gets to the head articulation is pretty much the point he starts to bitch. I can understand not liking some of the limited movement, but the guy just goes off on how bad Mario is with the head joint and the arms. It's not some Hot Toys figure I mean, it's a Mario figure with poseability. Something you don't get often outside of the classic 'five joint' figures of the 80s and early 90s. |

Complains about there being accessory packs... But raves about the low price of just the figure. Well if they were all together imagine how expensive it would be. Wants fireball effects and other items... This is Super Mario, not Smash Bros. Mario. A Mario in a white and red jumpsuit would indeed be inexcusable without such an accessory, but this one doesn't need that really. Other hands in general, I'll give him. "The coin is boring because it's just a coin." ...You expected something else...? Mumbled complaints [seriously, I can't understand most of what he says because of that] about the mushroom being simple so it better be "damn perfect" and it's not to him. Again, it's a mushroom. I don't really see what went wrong there. And now I hit that part with the articulation... Holy hell he became super snarky at that point. Okay, yes, the head doesn't look like it can move a whole lot by his demonstration. I'd still prefer to see it in hand over somebody who just before tried to crush his question mark block.. And my one complaint with this figure is the lack of alternate heads, so I agree there too. But that one thing just set him off and wow... In general it still does what I expected it to and looks great in general. I'm not about to go cancel at all. Edit: Oh and then I just listened to the very end. Yep, he's 100% expecting it to be like the Smash character, given how he started rambling about getting that collection together. Sure, that's partly why I'm interested in the figure too. But I fully realize that this Mario is not that Mario. |

How dare a figure based upon a design with no neck be limited there. As someone who can be very critical at times, that's just silly. I think when you review a figure you have to review it within context. How well does it work within the confines of the design? Are breaks in the design fair trade offs? Does the figure at the very least do most/everything you see the character perform? Is the price fair for what you receive? This is like buying a Godzilla and then complaining that it can't perform a Rider kick. If it can, awesome, if not, then it isn't a loss. |
I haven't bothered with the video primarily because of it's time length, but wow it sounds rather petty...

Surprised by him not mentioning the one thing I wish the figure had: alternate faces.
The happy face is fine but he really needs a close mouthed face. Maybe a face for when he loses a life, and maaaaaybe an extra head without a hat and an extra hat without a head, but he doesn't need that. |

I mean it takes him five bloody minutes before he gets the damn thing open. Half the time I can't even understand what he's saying. |
Extra faces is something I was really disappointed with. It would have helped a bunch since Mario isn't always smiling.

The figure definitely has flaws, but we knew it only had one face and we knew the articulation would obviously be limited in certain places (although this guy just seems especially bad at posing). We've already seen pictures from places like 2Chan showing a much greater range of movement than he claims is possible. |
Just got my Mario and accessory packs in the mail, and yeah that review is crap. Ignoring the problems of mumbling and acting shocked/getting pissed at the accessory count Mario came with when Bandai had shown exactly what Mario comes with from the very beginning, he claims Mario can't lift his arms straight up...
http://i58.tinypic.com/nvukh.jpg and he can. Sure he can't hold his hands straight out to the side because of the shape of his shoulders but if they had changed them it would of looked horrible. Besides when has Mario ever held his hands like that anyway. As other people mentioned here he seems to be only interested in Mario for his Smash Bros collection which is probably why he doesn't understand why Mario and his accessory packs were split like they were. For people who love the Super Mario series like me there is a huge temptation to buy multiple versions of the accessory packs to be able to build stages from the games. I'd be willing to pay $13 and shipping for some stage parts, but I wouldn't be willing to pay $30+ and shipping for only three extra accessories and a Mario I don't want. Also Mario totally can do a rider kick http://i60.tinypic.com/i2ilwk.jpg |
I seriously hope the S.H. Figuarts Mario line takes off and Luigi comes soon after.
I don't know how they'd do a Princess Peach with her dress, but I could see Yoshi, Toad, Wario, and Bowser for other future possibilities. |

Mario seems really cool. a luigi would be cool and possibly cost a little more cause of size. I just hope a accessory pack comes out, cause of the back port, that has F.L.U.D.D. and its different attachments from sunshine. than if when luigi comes out I hope there is an accessory pack that has the Poltergust 3000 and a flashlight from Luigi's Mansion. both sets of course would need hands I imagine.

Honestly, if Bandai were to get the license to make Sonic stuff, it'd most likely be as Figuart Zeros.
I mean not even articulated Sonic figured released stateside can stand up all that well or hold poses on their own due to the thin build and large heads. |

True, but I don't know if it's exactly fair to compare the quality of a figuarts, or even a standard BandaiJPN release, to a company like Jazwares...who's QC is about as good as McFarlane's but with worse sculpt and paint. Plus given what Kotobukiya has done with Cu-poche, it is possible to do a large headed figure with a smaller body and legs. Failing that, they could always go the classic route. |

Mario became an instant buy along with all the extra sets when they hit BBTS. He was a 'maybe' given my job searching status, but now that Luigi is confirmed, you can't have one without the other. It's like you can't get one Ninja Turtle, you need all four, or Sonic without Tails, etc, etc... Now show us how you'd make a Princess Peach Figuart, Bandai. |
My replacement Venus has arrived, so now I can take pictures of her:
