That looks spiffy.
|
I'm still not in love with the arms. Still too skinny, but otherwise, having proportions makes it look rather decent. Tolerable, at least.

The nice thing about this is since the arms are detachable, it'd be easy to just use Wild's arms for both sides.

I got my box of minipla in today. Can't wait to build this guy! I have one full set up for sale on my sales thread. Asking $30 shipped for all 5.

Any idea what kind of candy is in these kits? My wife and I love them and want to buy just them if we can.

When I first saw the DX Zyuoh King toy, I scoffed and decided I wouldn't buy it. Today, I got my case of minipla in the mail, and now that I've assembled it, I love this toy.
The minipla fixes most of my problems with the DX toy. I'm boggling at the mindfulness that went into this toy's design. There are sticker sheets, but in most cases, you're applying the sticker over molded details. The designers clearly intended for us to have the option of painting the toy. The feet and the rear are amazing. The default instructions allow us to replicate the DX toy's limitations like the uni-leg, but we're given the option to separate the legs and have ball-jointed ankles. The choice is wholly ours. The minipla corrects part of the DX toy's gross profile by letting us remove the 2 block and use it as a shield. That's not a fan alteration: they actually included an optional part that allows the figure to hold the shield either in his hand or at the wrist. (At the wrist looks way better to me, since it simulates a strapped-on shield.) None of the videos I've seen of the DX toy indicate that it can do this, but it looks so good on the minipla, you'd think it was part of the initial design. This toy can move! Some of this movement is relatively restricted, but it's enough to allow the thing to take on relatively-natural poses that are impossible for the rigid DX toy. The individual cube modes suffer for all this freedom. The cube mode for Cube Eagle doesn't look remotely good, but I'm comfortable with that. The cube modes don't appeal to me in the slightest. The animal modes, on the other hand, are pretty good. (Again, Eagle is the worst, but I'm inclined to forgive it, since it appears it will need ultimately to serve more modes than just cube, animal, or body part. What does appeal to me - and this took me somewhat by surprise - is that I actually like the design of Zyuoh King. I didn't think I would at first, but now that I've seen the in-show suit and I've got the minipla in hand, I'm realizing that it's a cool design, if you can enjoy the 8-bit aesthetic. Things I wish I'd known when I was building it: that I needed to decide on whether to use the stickers BEFORE assembling it. For the two Cube Eagle sets, there are several stickers - the face and the black part under the eagle's head - that you DON'T want to wait until later to decide on. I tried to apply the face after the fact, and the result wasn't pretty, since I no longer had proper access to the areas where they were supposed to go. I'd absolutely recommend applying the stickers behind the lion-knee eyes, however, since they look great. I also see no viable alternative to the 3 sticker provided for Cube Lion. That's the only sticker that doesn't have paintable detail under it. I gather I should be cautious about acquiring more minipla, as this set might've set my standards a little too high. I gather that this may be the best minipla to date. I impulsively picked up Gekitouja off Mandarake before I had Zyuoh King in-hand, so... we'll see how that goes. I couldn't help but notice, by the way, that Zyuoh King scales more or less perfectly with Super Robot Chogokin Shinken-Oh. LOVE. Edit: And OH GOOD GRIEF, I just realized I can plug the tiny sword into the back of his sword-wielding hand, effectively giving Zyuoh-King a cool-looking double-bladed sword. I suspect the designers did it on purpose, given the thoughtful details everywhere else. |
Good to know you're having a lot of fun with them~

Just got mine today. Built it faster than any of the others I own and I love it to pieces. Not ToQGer good, but still good.

I'm stumped by the picture Lee Fitzgerald posted. Just how is Cube Kirin supposed to connect to the legs?

For those curious, the preorder for the 3rd set for zyuohger has popped up on amiami. Personally I'm going to hold off till we find out whether its zyuoh the world's mech or a reissue of the first set.

I had a moment of sleepy foolishness on Mandarake recently. I ordered what I thought was DaiBouken - I didn't look closely and momentarily forgot that support mecha exist - and ended up with DaiVoyager.
I put it together today, and what raised my eyebrow is that it appears to come with two identical faces. I don't yet read Japanese. Anyone know whether it's intended to be a backup, or if it's intended for some other mecha in the minipla line? (Also, I picked up Go-BusterOh. Buster Ace is fantastic, the supporting mecha are pretty good, and the combination is just as bad as I'd been led to believe.) |

First image of the second set of mini-pla for Zyouhger. |
Doesn't look like there'll be as much articulation as the first set.

No images are appearing for me...

That's odd. I can see it just fine.

At this point, I'm assuming there'll be some shockingly clever engineering. But, yeah, it could also have less articulation than the Zyuoh King minipla. If it doesn't have more than the DX, though, I'll be shocked.) |
Gallery for ZyuOh Wild, there is indeed leg articulation:

Zyuoh Wild got delivered today.
Each cube by itself is very nice, and their animal modes all look quite good as well. Combined is where my main annoyance lies though. It was hard to tell from the prerelease photos, but because of Elephant's animal mode, there are large pieces of plastic that stick out of the inner legs. This would be okay, but the left leg's range of motion is drastically limited because the plastic piece is constantly blocking the back of the food from moving. It would have been nice to have that piece on some kind of hinge to fold up and fill the leg in. Also sadly, because Gorilla's arms extend partially past the top of the cube, you cannot stack all six cubes in one massive tower. Only five. The issue with the foot persists in the combined form as well. That, and the angle hinges on Lion are rather loose when trying to hold up four cubes. Altogether though, the model still looks quite nice, and the rotating fists provide even more motion, though the head isn't going anywhere. You aren't going to get amazing poses out of Wild Zyuoh King, but it still looks quite nice. From what they've done with the line so far this year, I am inordinately excited for when Tousai Zyuoh releases. Edit: after some more experimenting, you can stack all six if you open the Gorilla's arms. Adding the weapon cubes and various extra pieces makes something that looks like a blocky spaceship. |

Its about damn time it got here. By golly it looks nice. Excited for rhino to join the ranks too. |
Love Zyuoh Wild. Love love love. More than I do Zyuoh King.
Animal modes are dumb though :( I have 3 extra sets (accidently bought 2 cases). Once I know what I'm doing with them I'll let you know. I buy mine on AmiAmi.com, usually checking once or twice a week to see if a set is up for pre-order. Series 3 Pre-Order is now sold out, no word on Series 4 yet or the guaranteed special edition clear set. |
If you don't need one of those 3 extra sets, the great and loveable Matrix would certainly be willing to help you part with one~
|
The most I need would be a Tiger and Elephant for Cube Condor's minpla.
|
My box arrived yesterday with extra set of gorilla, tiger and elephant as well as a third tiger and third set of gorilla's arms and gun.
All are up for grabs. |
*Raises hand* How much?
